I had OL for most of the draft process, then the past week or so I shifted to CB. I might shift back to OL again.

The big sticking point for me is I just can't envision Howie trading up for a CB in this draft. It's a pretty good CB class, but it isn't great. Howie loves maximizing value. And you can't view trading up in a vacuum. When you trade up, in the moment it's like ok you're giving up a 2nd round pick to move up. But it's really you're trading pick 22 and pick 50 or 53 for Arnold/Mitchell. A 1st and a 2nd is the type of value that should get you a guy like Surtain if he were on the market. That's probably what he'd cost if Denver were to move him. Given that fact, I can't see Howie trading the same capital that would get you a guy like Surtain... the best CB in the NFL at age 23 for a CB in a non elite CB draft class. It feels so un Howie like.

If Howie does it then they really have changed philosophies and are going all in this year to win.

But if they do trade up for an OL, the fact that they've been talking to Denver scares me. Because that could indicate them trying to move up for a guy like Fuaga that would make me throw up.

Draft Day is here!

FTW!

Live by the sword. Die by the sword.

In Howie We trust!

Or In Howie We rust!

Watkins is the worst pick. He might be one of the worst picks in NFL history. A 27 year old at a devalued position. We'd have been talking about him being too old by the end of his rookie contract. 100 paths to it being a crappy pick, only a few to being a good one.

Oh, and I missed a great party so I could watch that draft. So yeah, F Danny Watkins and F whoever pulled the trigger on that pick.

To flip for a King's ransom?

Or is Justin Herbert on the trade block?

Confusion ensues.

Harbaugh drafts JJ and trades Herbert?

Or this is nothing.

I said a couple months ago I wouldnt be surprised if Jim Harbaugh still wants McCarthy. But Justin Herbert‘s contract is ridiculous to trade him so it’s not happening. It’s 63.5 mil dead money and 44 mil in cap hit.  Unless a team like Minnesota is willing to pay you something absolutely crazy for Justin Herbert I don’t really see it and you’d have to figure out how to fit it under the cap. But if you made that trade better be damn sure McCarthy is good. Cause I’m guessing if Herbert goes somewhere like Minnesota he may have a lot of success with Jefferson unless the chargers ask for Jj.

Bowers is my #1 if we trade up. I think he is the best player in this draft. He can play in the slot and open up the offense in 2 TE sets. Always on the field and can make a huge impact.

After that I want a CB.

Trade up for a guy who will get what: 500 yards and 2-3 tds with all the other mouths to feed.

defense is atrocious and they have added White and Huff and lost 91 and Hassan?

Totally disagree. I think there is a good chance he ends up the best OL in this draft.

Yes, he is a bit raw — not as raw as Suamataia, but still needs work — but he has enormous potential. He’s huge, low center of gravity, long arms, strong hands, powerful, and he can somehow run better than 290 pound guys at 340+.

Latham is the only player I’d be happy to trade up for.  I believe Latham will be gone before pick 10 anyway so it’s likely academic, and all the signs are pointing toward Howie trading up to get Mitchell or Arnold.  I get it, because Howie admits they don’t know how to evaluate CBs, so just trade up so you can draft one of the two consensus best ones.  Personally I’d be quite happy if they took Nate Wiggins, who might not require a trade up at all — but that doesn’t seem to be where the Eagles are leaning.

The folks who don’t want to draft OL in the first round must be really comfortable with Tyler Steen, sight unseen, because no one can guarantee me that’s he’s a quality starter at RG going into Week 1.  We’ve also become spoiled with good OL health; if one or two of these guys miss significant time on the OL, there is no depth at all right now.

More like, they draft Goedert’s eventual replacement/certified backup at a position that you can play 2 of at the same time. Especially if we get some under center running game this season.

I wouldn’t be mad. With so many mouths to feed, things open up for others and vice versa.

I think the Eagles should draft some players.

Agree. But maybe start slow.  1 tonight, maybe 2 tomorrow and then finish strong with several more on Saturday.

Possible a lot of bets and $$ on the 100/1 and the 15/1 didn't slow it down so they shift to make it less attractive to bettors?

Exactly this, there isn't a corner in this draft that is so much better than guys that will be available at 22 that he's worth giving up one of the seconds for. Also  I think people might be underestimating what it takes to get that done, 22 and 53 for 12 is barely a wash even using the newer pick trade models, if I'm Denver and staring at a complete reboot I want 120 on top at very least.

I cannot for the life of me see the point of trading up to 12 for an OT who's going to sit or play guard for 2 years,

We trade up for DTs to get 2-3 sacks and rotate.

I'm going with the Eagles want a WR in the 1st round rumors. Jalen Hurts hasn't just had good weapons at WR, he's had elite WR. He isn't a QB that's going to make average WR better. They need to surround Hurts with the best WR as they can. Right now, if AJ Brown or DeVonta Smith get hurt, next man up is Parris Campbell or DeVonte Parker. If AJ Brown they can't get an extension done with AJ Brown and he's gone, there is NOTHING in the cupboard. Not only are they drafting a WR in the 1st, they will double dip and bring in two.

As a thought experiment is it impossible to imagine Jim Harbaugh marching into Chargers headquarters fresh in the job and demanding they draft his ex college QB despite just extending Herbert?

So yeah if you open the betting market on a former college coach taking his national champion QB in the 1st at 100-1 you're going to get takers, especially when that college coach is a guy who's shown himself to be a confrontational horses ass in the past.

I’d prefer they hold off on addressing WR this year unless it’s a flier on a huge developmental talent.

With Brown and Smith in the fold, the only WRs they draft are going to project as the sluggish, handsy, slot types who have value a bit later.

Theres a really good chance AJ Brown supernova’s himself in the next year or 2, introducing WR as a blue chip 1st round need instead of some crafty 3rd round slot addition.

Id see how next year goes, give Campbell a shot, and probably go WR in round 1 in the next year or so.

And then Howie will say something about us being a "WR Factory” in his presser

Or it’s simply someone on the Chargers leaking QB interest so they get more in return from the team they want to trade down with.  I see them as the likeliest trade down team in the top 10

FWIW, historically, they’ve had a bit of a tendency to cluster bad 1st round picks with bad 2nd round picks…and good 1st round picks with good 2nd round picks.

Not a chance. Of his contemporaries, I would take Darrell Green or Champ Bailey over Deion, in addition to Woodson.  For the Ss, I would take Ronnie Lott, Brian Dawkins, Ed Reed, and Jack Tatum (when Jack hit you, you stayed hit) over Deion.  Can’t stomach the allergy to tackling Deion had.  Reaching back a little for CBs, Mel Blount and Willie Brown and two only a few of us are old enough to remember, Night Train Lane and Dick LeBeau.  Hell, if I was picking All Century for the 1900s, it’s Night Train.  My other corner would be Blount.  Albeit, a different and I would argue better game.

We were talking college, not pro. Why else would I have mentioned Vince Young? The whole convo began with Reggie Bush at USC.

He’s got us trading a 2 and a 2025 3 to move up six sports for Arnold. No way Howie is that dumb.
