I don’t think so…I took it as the Eagles thinking they were being sly and it happened according to plan.  Like Howie really had any clue that Mitchell would last to number 22.

I think Howie and Eagles fans should extremely pleased that we got the best CB in the draft without having to move up.  But I do not believe that this was their best case scenario going into the night…in their minds anyway.

Howie even said he's been too cute in the past.

He's learned to trust his board and patiently wait for the draft to unfold. By pick #16 or so, he knew he was going to get one of the players he had similar grades on, Mitchell, Arnold, maybe one of the edge rushers, the OL who went at 20? So at that point he resisted the temptation to move up b/c the draft was breaking his way.

Eagles put players in tiers of similar value, if you know you're getting one of those players, you don't trade up to get a player with a similar grade.

Same tonight, Howie probably will target certain players that have are a tier above the players he expects to be available at 50 and 53, if they drop where he can trade up at a cost that's less than the difference in value. So he'll watch to see who drops and talk to teams about what they want to move down.

If he can't pull off a value move up, he'll look at who's on the board when it's time to draft, if he's looking at a group of similar players, I can see him trading out of 53 into the 60s to add a pick or two.

The key is to trust your board, don't let the emotions of the moment make you reach, and focus on value.

In the end, you're gonna miss on half your picks, the best you can do is improve the odds of success.

I wonder if they were tempted to move up for Dallas Turner at all.

Edit: The Pickett trade, God what an awful trade.

Pickett is gonna win us the SuperBowl !!

No way Bradberry makes this roster. Trade him for a 7th. Or to the Falcons for their 2nd😂

How about Bullard at S (need a Georgia player) and Cooper at LB in Round 2!!  Might as well keep the streak going for drafting positions that we never draft early!!  And totally restock the defensive side of the ball!!!

How about their 2nd and Kyle Pitts?

That Rabadi guy who has broken some stuff said the Eagles tried to get ahead of the Steelers, so it seemed like they wanted the Washington tackle, if he has the right info.

That’s a steal for them.

I hope they already stripped 27 off McPhearson and gave it to Mitchell. #27 is too good for some jag

I wonder if that guy makes up stuff because he put out "source: Niners drafted Cooper DeJean” seconds after Mike Silver put it out. But Mike Silver corrected himself and said he misread a text or something, so I feel like that guy Rabadi stole Silver’s info and tried to pass it off as his own seconds after.

Any chance Howie goes LB'er with one of these 2nd round picks or will it be OL and DL? Thoughts?

I'm glad they couldn't move up then.   The Washington tackle is nice... but part of why you want to have a guy like Stoutland as the OL coach, is so that you don't have to spend the highest picks on the OL.   As it stands, we have a first round (top 5) RT, a high second round pick (Dickerson), a mid 2nd round pick (Jurgens) and a very early 3rd round pick (Steen) as 4 of the 5 starters.   AND we've put massive money into Johnson and Dickerson... and very very good money into Mailata.   It would be nice to get a mid-round OL that can play and develop into a starter.  Once upon a time we found those guys in free agency - Jon Runyan was a former 4th round pick, IIRC, and Brandon Brooks was a former 3rd.   It would be nice for the Eagles to find a guy (or 2) like that to fill their depth need in this draft.

As such, I'm fine with not going OL even in Round 2.

Thinking they go OL and either LB or edge rusher today, depending on how the board falls. If we somehow walked away with one of Cooper or Wilson, along with someone like Suamataia/Beebe/Zinter, this would be a massive win. All that would be left is to sign Simmons after the draft.

Rabadi is not a journalist or insider.  He just re-states what other reporters have put out on Twitter.  He knows about as much as me.

Eagles top 30 visit with a LB Edgerrin Cooper. He will be going in the 2nd round. Big chance its to the Eagles if he is there at 50 or 53

Few good oline left that will go in the 2nd as well. My mocks I went Cooper Beebee and Edgerrin Cooper. Long shot to get both but best shot scenario without moving up. Esp now with some higher talent slipping to 2nd round. Then love to land Malik Washington WR from Virgina in the 4th round and Mohamed Kamara Edge in the 5th or late 4th with a move up if the boards fall right.

I don't trust any of those reports for this reason, it's almost certain that Howie talked to a number of teams about the cost of moving up, that doesn't mean he actually wanted to, but with only 15 minutes, you have to negotiate the general parameters of these deals ahead of time, then make a decision when a player falls/your pick comes up. But there's no guarantee that the team you talked to will want to make a deal when you do.

So he's going to be talking to a number of teams about moving up or down during each round, then making a decision (or trying to make a trade) as the draft unfolds.

Reporters hear about the phone calls, but not the context of the call.

It's about preserving optionality, because when you're at pick #12, you don't know who'll be available at pick #16-#20, but you have to start talking to people before you get to their pick. So you're always gathering information.

Pretty cool story

Who is left that the eagles worked out?

Lmao

No idea what board you are looking at. You have projected 1st rounds still on the board pushing better players to us that would have gone earlier in the second.

Thrilled with this second round board right now.

17 picks before we are up.  Any projected 1st round pick that has inexplicably dropped will be long gone by then.

They’ll be well into the lower tier of OTs by then that we’ll be getting guys who don’t grade much differently than Tyler Steen.

There won’t be any plug and play prototypical RGs that can come right in and reliably start.

And to justifiably draft any other position as bpa, you’d want a big talent that dropped…and those guys will be gone.

Whomever the 2nd round pick is, they won’t be high upside AND they aren’t going to play for at least a year.

I think it’s the right opportunity to load up on resources for next year.

The Eagles draft board consists of more than 52 names surely.  They should keep these picks and pick some good players.
