Yea I picked up on that too. Lurie was the only one who sounded excited.

They need Vic Fangio punching the air like Gannon used to.

Maybe have Fangio fly to AZ and punch Gannon in the face?

Ok I love the Barkley deal

I can’t wait to throw Penix in everyone’s face when he emerges :).

Seriously though I’m sick of all the nerds on TV and you nerds in here who think they have any clue.

The thing everyone knows is that you aren’t winning a Super Bowl with Kirk Cousins. Falcons made the right move drafting a QB who showed out in college.

Edge Rushers don’t win Super Bowls. Ask Myles Garrett or TJ Watt

I think they wanted Fautanu but obviously Mitchell was their highest rated CB.  They probably liked Guyton too. We know they obsess on OL. Who knows maybe they'd have taken Chop Robinson too

At this point he’s on pace for 0 HRs lol his average is .177. His OBP is .233. His slugging is .198. He also has one extra base hit in 26 games. that’s atrocious

I’m hoping he can get streaky and go on a couple runs. The dude sucks lol.

Yeah... if you get caught.   But, the NFL can't ban a GM for being good at talent evaluations.

All metaphors break down eventually... but the point is, its not blind luck.  If you prefer, we could use a poker analogy, where good poker players can outwit their opponents and while their success does rely on the cards they are dealt to a certain extent, their skill in reading their opponents ultimately makes them winners more than it makes them losers.

Paying cousins 100 million to draft 24 year old penix was the right move?

I felt the same way. But also they had an extra 2nd rounder. Could've dipped into picks next year. If Howie was gaga over a player, I'm relatively confident he would've made it work. I mean, they paid a pretty penny a couple years ago to move up a few spots for Jordan Davis. And that was in the top 15. Telling me they couldn't move from 22 to 16/17/18? And if it was a guy they truly wanted they would've scoffed at the price?

But I do think they probably preferred tackle and figured they'd get a corner on day two. Maybe they had the CBs and tackles rated closely enough to where they felt comfortable just standing pat and not paying the premium. I have to admit, if Fautanu was their guy, I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Did not want a 24 year old lineman with medical red flags. If he becomes the next Jason Peters I'll eat crow. If it was Mims they wanted I'd be a little bummed, because I love him as a prospect. But even with him admittedly, if/when the defense is getting torched next season and you look over and see your first rounder not playing, I probably in the moment would be lamenting the Eagles didn't just stand pat and take a corner. I get tackle is a big future need. They have a couple offseasons to figure it out. Maybe if they fill enough holes in the mean time, they'll be able to afford expending extra draft capital to move way up and draft one in another draft.

Not feeling the natural excitement from the room, almost like, ok let's take this guy, he fell, can't really go wrong here, good value for a position of need, ho hum. Wonder if they had others they really wanted to move up for for and it didn't work out...

I bet they tried to trade up for Turner and then thought they would get Verse.

Tee Higgins requested a trade? We could be the greatest show on grass with that offense lol.

That’s almost like drafting Aaron Rogers when you’ve got Brett Favre.

You can criticize the contract but at the end of the day who cares? I believe it was a 3 year contract? That means their plan was 1-2 years.

They also signed Cousins not knowing 1. How the draft would fall 2. How they viewed each prospect. Penix could have wowed them in private meetings and after evaluating more film.

If one of the byes is before each team's Thursday Night Game, that would be a big step in the right direction.

Not really a fan of handing a rookie a starting spot before they even practice.

Only Favre won 3 league MVPs and a Super Bowl. Cousins can’t even win in prime time and just tire his Achilles

I honestly think they explored moving up, but the OTs went earlier than expected. The Chargers taking Alt, causing the Titans to take Latham, was a surprise. Then Mims at 18. Combine that with the idiocy of the Falcons and Broncos, and the CBs were dropping right into our laps. I did think they could try and jump Pitt to take Fautanu, but maybe the medicals scared them off. More likely, they realized the could keep draft capital and get a top ~12 guy at 22.

My two thoughts: 1. Penix's injury history is frightening. 2. Taking Penix at 8 over McCarthy was a mistake.

Except for the fact they admitted they'd spent about 45 minutes in total on him.

They didn't have Penix in for a meeting. Only met at combine.

It has very little to do with whether Penix is any good. (Although, IMO, he's not).  There are only two sides to the coin.

Heads, you wasted $100M in guaranteed money on a QB with a very short leash, who will have to answer questions about it every day

Tails, you drafted a 24 year-old QB who is destined to sit on the bench for 2+ years (unless you want to pay Cousins $100M to play one year)

This is like a bride who falls asleep on the plane on the flight down to Cancun for her honeymoon, only to wake up mid-flight to see her brand new husband being pronounced man-and-wife with the stewardess.

It's the worst process I've seen in quite a long time.

Falcons dead last in sacks could have moved back still got top edge rusher and hella change

Let's be honest -- the Falcons are not a serious franchise. They have had 4 straight top 10 picks and have taken a TE, a possession WR, a RB and a backup QB. This is how you keep picking in the top 10 forever.

At the time they signed him, I thought that was a good signing. Based off what he had done previously, if he continued on that it would be a good contract. $20 million a year for what he could do with his bat before he got here was a good deal.  I think that nlcs series last year ruined him. He looks like he has no confidence up there and just swinging at everything.

Mims and Fuaga were very gettable. Mims didnt make a ton of sense, but Fuaga was absolutely perfect for us. I even though Howie might see the value of Fautanu with his bad knees who was the closest of all of them. They could have had a tackle, even a  G/T versatile guy pretty easily.
