My bad, I meant to write "takers"

He's a top level talent with a lot of issues who is projecting as far down as the 4th round

It's a sarcastic but probably quite apt take.  He needs to grow up and go somewhere that he will accept hard coaching.  Plenty of kids like him out there that flame out, but would I take him? Yep, but not in the 2nd round.

He's really good but he has major personality concerns right?  Seems like a future Steeler.

I didn’t know about the personality stuff. Is it Terrell Owens level?

I don't think the Broncos have as good a QB as good as Cousins on their roster right now, do they? Part of the WTF with the Penix choice is why draft a QB that high when you just paid a bunch for Cousins who has a 4 year contract.

Part of the WTF with the Broncos choice is why they are stockpiling terrible QB's.

That’s a really good point.

DeJean was a boundary corner in college. He has the body and skill set that suggests he’s a safety or nickel corner but he hasn’t done it.

Does that make him drop?

Well, S isn’t the same as CB.  Angles and instincts are key.  So it’s a projection that DeJean excels at the position.  The stiffness is a bit of a concern as it can be exposed in the box by quick receivers, backs and TEs. I suspect that hit DeJean’s actual evaluation versus draft site predictions.  Possible he is available at 50 because of that.

That too 😀

And yet... some teams do dramatically better than others.   The proof exists that while it is an inexact process there are absolutely ways to improve your returns.   That's why the Ravens can basically sit out every free agency period... lose a bunch of players every year and still manage to put a good product on the field.    Same for the Steelers, historically.   And its why teams like the Falcons, Cardinals, Lions (until very recently), Browns (until very recently) were always terrible.   They couldn't draft to save their jobs, despite being at the top of the draft order year in and year out.

They put out competitive teams but none of them have been to a Superbowl in some time with all of this special talent they're accumulating in the draft. Well over a decade. Perhaps their draft practices are... outdated?

He's diabetic, and apparently when his blood sugar isn't well regulated he's a massive a-hole.

Also some concerns that he doesn't take well to coaching.

Request the trade already Micah.

It's all rumors and conjecture. Some Packers beat writer said some anonymous scout labeled him "uncoachable" and also brought up he has diabetes and doesn't take care of it so he has mood swings.

I’m not complaining about the pick, and I think the Eagles genuinely believe they made the correct decision. But I think they were not necessarily overjoyed with the plate of options on their menu, at least compared to other years. If just felt like it was a "yeah, I guess he’s the best option of what we have so we’ll take him” situation.

What I’m happy about is that this wasn’t the scenario we’ve seen before where the Eagles are picking around 20th and pick someone that most people had rated in the 30s or 40s. Guys like Agholor or Smith or Reagor. Mitchell was a guy who was a consensus mid teens kind of pick.

Agree 100%.  I didn't think you were complaining.  I was agreeing with you, and I think this might have worked out better than their plan "A".

You'd think a professional athlete would have that ish down by now.  He comes across as someone that needs to grow up rather than letting it get out of control

DeJean as our slot CB would be a fantastic fit. Just ups the athleticism and toughness of the unit immediately.

Smarts, instincts and versatility is what I think. I think he stabilizes the secondary, not sure if he's exactly "tough" but he definitely is a good tackler and all that.

Nah, to hear some folks, we already know who the starting CBs are going to be in 2025.

Yeah, it's a complicated thing with him.

It's funny because the reports are when he's got it under control, he's 100% locked in and loves the game.  When he's off, he's uncoachable and has a crappy attitude.

It's one thing if a young kid like that doesn't really grasp, or take seriously, a health issue like that.  But when you're an NFL-caliber prospect and it's affecting your potential career, it becomes something else entirely.

I can see why teams are nervous about him, but his ceiling is so high someone's going to roll the dice on him soon.

QB and S were his positions in HS for what it’s worth, and he played some star at Iowa… so some experience outside of the boundary (well inside really).

Not a super hot take but BPA (with the caveat of a trade up for great value) seems like best option for Eagles tonight.

I don’t think there are any glaring holes. Question marks maybe but not many.

Eagles have what, 9 of their starters on offense now signed for multiple years.

If they use 50 & 53 on a pair of defensive players, they can have an exciting foundation of young defensive talent to build on.

I’m not entirely sure what direction they take today. But if I had to guess it’ll be a LB, DE, G/T, or WR.

I do find it appealing to grab a WR today, pair him with Devonta & AJ for the next 4 years.

A pro medical staff should help that too if it really is all about his blood sugar level.

Based on the Reub YouTube stuff, it sounds like he’d cut JB out of spite… but there’s no big rush to cut him contract wise.

I think my realistic best case scenario today would be this fantastic trade with HOU…50 and 53 for 42, 86, and 127:

I agree with this.  Howie should be watching DeJean,  and looking to make that trade.  I don't think the Eagles should trade for DeJean at 33.  Costs too much.  But DeJean at 42 gets the 3rd,  and the bonus pick at 127.  Also,  yes to Luke McCaffrey.

After snagging Mitchel I do think grabbing a nice 3rd receiver or future tight end might be a luxury the Eagles think they can afford.
