I think Hurts, especially after last night's performance will be a liability for any coach who wants to bring in a pro style offense.

38 screens a game? No lol

Yeah, it's obviously humorous hyperbole, but the point still stands.

The coordinator move that was made is interesting upon reflection. It was clear in the first two games that the OC was in over his head. The DC also showed the same but on a more irregular basis. A few games it looked okay and then others a total mess. Demoting the OC might have been a wiser move. During yesterday's cast, one of the commentators remarked that they had spoken to Slay and Slay said something like "It's really difficult to switch coordinators because the defense reflects the personality of the coach." This sounded to me like a dig at Patricia with him saying that the D s*cked because Patricia s*cks as a person. Based on the lack of commitment to tackling by Byard, Slay, Roby, and Bradberry, and I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, I would not put it past Slay to have gathered his small circle and said "we can't make this dude look good, ride out the season, stay healthy and eff it." I can't come up with another explanation about why they were so uncommitted to tackling. They all need to go along with Patricia.

Belichick/Vrabel and Hurts I think works personality wise. I'm not sure Lurie is going to fire a coach who was in the Super Bowl last year just to hire an up and coming OC with no experience as a HC. This locker room needs a leader, and frankly there is more to fix on the defense. If BB stays away from personnel, he's my top choice. We have seen an undisciplined, poorly coached team the last 1.5 months. That won't happen with Belichick or Vrabel.

How many defensive minded HC have won the SB recently outside of BB with Brady? Having 12 on the other side of the ball is like a self driving car. I guess Kubiak or Coughlin would be the others. Neither BB or MV has impressed me with their offenses.

It's hilarious seeing people wanting Belichick after the 2017 season when everyone was commenting on the difference between how the two teams are

We were the fun and relaxed team that had fun and won while Pats were the more disciplined team that we beat

I realize we need discipline now but it's just funny seeing the change

Same, but I think the chances of us hiring a D-minded head coach are slimmer than a 90s fashion model

I don't want to get into a man's personal life.   Can he coach or not?

Kubiak was an offensive HC, and Coughlin came up as a WR coach

Takes care of that. Most winning HC seem to be offensive minded.

On Kelce, it'd be a shame to see him go out the way the season ended, but I understand, he's 36, not young by football standards, especially for the position he plays, and he has a young family. He's set himself up for his post football career. If he's truly done, I'll see him in Canton in 5 years.

On Sirianni, generally, a coach that has you in the playoffs, including a Super Bowl appearance in their first 3 years, is one you'd, for obvious reasons, keep around. That said, I think he should be let go. You go from being 10-1, to 11-6, and a first round exit in the playoffs, there's clearly an issue here, and it's not just on the OC/DC. Just my 0.02

Slay also just doesn't like Patricia

Which I now totally understand and support

If they do fire Sirianni, I would prefer Vrabel of the available coaches.

Same, simply because he's battle tested, he'll fix the defense and players will fight for him till the end.

That's ok, I don't like Slay.

Wonder if you bring in Vrabel he brings Arthur Smith with him as the OC. As the OC with Vrabel he was 10th and 4th in ppg in 19 and 2020.

Sign Henry for a year and finally be a dominant run team over the left side of the line.

Lurie has been enamored with all things Patriots (tried to buy them before the Eagles). I think if he cans Nick, he's going to want someone established. I could see Vrabel or Belichick.

His hires tend to be correcting the issues from the previous regime.

  • Reid: offensive coach instead of Rhodes defensive coach.  Reid inherited some strong defensive veterans and had to get the QB and install an offense.
  • Chip: wanted that innovative offense, since he was obsessed with a high octane offense that scores a lot of points.
  • Doug: wanted a familiar face, a player's coach with "emotional intelligence."
  • Siri: wanted a young up and coming coach who would change and adapt with the younger players since Doug wanted to run it back and not make major changes.

Next: Siri isn't an offensive mind with strong scheme and play calling ability, he's more of the game manager, CEO leader who needs 2 coordinators to run things otherwise he doesn't bring much.  If Lurie retains Siri he's going to demand competent, experienced coordinators on both sides not guys who are learning on the job.  If that model works then Siri might be safe.  If Lurie does fire Siri, he's going to want a HC who will have an offensive scheme and play calling ability, good play design and innovation (I'll bet he misses Reid's binder of ideas).  He might want a Shanahan or McDaniel type that will keep the offense going if the OC gets hired elsewhere.  Hopefully he is very well aware that Steichen was the reason for offensive success last year.

I don't know if he goes with someone with prior HC experience.  I think Belichek is done, he's old. Maybe he should be a GM or over personnel for some team but not a head coach anymore.  I like Vrabel, if he had a good OC and this offensive roster and worked with Howie to prioritize changes to the defensive roster and had a solid DC he could do well.

Lurie tends to like the up and coming position coach or coordinator to take the leap but you might be right, this time he might want an experienced guy to right the ship and not waste the investment in this roster.

You should be "all business" and focusing on your job!  Just like the standard the players are held to!

You liking Arthur Smith if Vrabel comes?

I'm good with Arthur Smith at OC if we get Vrabel.  Those guys are committed to running the ball, which is what we need to do.

The whole Defense needs to be revamped. We Also need a "Big Power" Back to go along with Swift.  But after sleeping on it, I still feel the same.  The Desai move lost the locker room IMO.  And I blame Lurie and Howie for meddling just like they did with Doug.    I do not feel Sirianni should be fired.   We did not have a losing season despite the late season downfall.

Bill Belichick should never be allowed near personnel decisions again. He can still coach, but he is an abhorrent GM.

Saw this just now.  I have no way to verify this.  I mean, is this possibly true?

I feel like I did see way more screens for losses than gains.

FB_IMG_1705427277231.jpg

Not true.  There weren't even 690 pass attempts.

If you retain Sirianni, how do you get a top flight OC to come in here? This is Nick's offense. Someone like Kellen Moore or Bienemy isn't coming here to call plays for someone else's offense.

If you keep Nick, you're keeping Brian Johnson most likely.

If this is still his pitch to Lurie at his exit interview, he will be fired

Normally, I would be on the same wave length as you, but watching this offense I think Jeffrey lurie want a coach that can do X’s annd O’s and be innovative and cutting edge. Mike Vrabel and Belichick are not that offensively. You saw what happened to Belichick without Brady and that offense was very basic. And Mike Vrabel has never had an innovative offense. It’s been run the ball with Derrick Henry, and occasionally throw it to AJ Brown. And it’s still run heavy with Henry.

One of the things I've been wondering about is after 2021 everyone felt the Eagles were a long ways away from being a Super Bowl team. Then in 2022 Howie had this amazing offseason where a bunch of things kinda fell into their lap and they made a monumental leap no one saw coming.

I wonder if the Eagles had a specific plan that was more long term based and after taking that leap, they diverted from that plan and focused more on the short term and tried to rush their way to another Super Bowl. Because a lot of their moves over the last year felt like trying to piece a bunch of stuff together on a whim.

They need to get back to a long term vision, if so. And stay the course with few deviations.

Isnt Tomlin a defensive guy?

Id say john Harbaugh  is more a defensive coach than offense.
