They may need that extra roster spot to keep Hunt on the roster while he gets busy in the weight room.

Yep, I've got him accounted for and he's not even going to dress.

Another EAGLES cheer in SD!

Man Wilson would have been so much fun in this offense

Could've had him at 78 if that was their guy. If he traded down to 87 and missed him by 3 picks, that's on him. That's the risk you run trading down. Wilson is a nifty player.

Roman Wilson, Suamatia, Wingo, and McCormick.

None of those guy visited and the 2 WRs they did draft actually did.  I think people are projecting their own guys as guys Howie wanted.  I do think they wanted Fautanu in rd 1 but other tan that they definitely wanted DeJean and Hunt and they didn't seem to care enough about anyone else.  I'm sure there are different guys they'd have taken if they fell at certain spots but they didn't seem to really care

Is Britain Covey as the PR and only the PR

Covey is also a WR.

So,  you know,  you can leave out the "only the PR" part out entirely.

Am I misremembering or did most mocks have Trotter Jr as a 2nd round big during the 2023 season? Not that it matters, Carson Strong was once considered a first round pick. But what I'm driving at is I wonder if Trotter's value plummeted because of bad testing and it kind of snowballed.

Bad testing and measurables

Rooting for him to prove the doubters wrong!

He has the intangibles to be a successful MLB.

Sure, he's listed as a WR. His 4 garbage time catches aren't going to convince me he's ever going to contribute on offense. He's not on this team because he's a WR. He's on this team because he's a PR.

ILB in a 3-4 might suit him best

I think Zinter was who got sniped in rd3 personally

I’m proud of Howie for not forcing it and reaching OG.

I think the whispers of reluctance to start Steen at RG were real, not draft smoke screen.  I think their plan was to preferentially address the right side of the OL over DB.

But the board didn’t break that way.  It still broke well.  And Howie wasn’t stubborn.  They took what the draft gave them.

He got 23 snaps during the regular season on offense during the first 16 games.

They don't look at him as a WR.  He's a PR only in the eyes of the Eagles.

That's ok.  We got his more athletic teammate.

The cost of moving up to take a guy they "targeted" was so small by the 4th and 5th rounds that it's unlikely they lost anyone they really wanted.

When they wanted someone, and the value was right, Howie didn't hesitate to pull the trigger (Trotter).

What alerted me to the first two is that after they were picked, the Eagles were two picks later and traded out both times.

Well, I'd much rather have their type be "athletic" than "non-athletic".

I am very interested to see how the OL picks perform. They seem to fit and have potential

He's a PR who led Utah in catches 3 years as a WR.

Covey can have as many or as few catches as the coaches dial up.  Last year the Eagles could have given Covey more snaps and targets than they did.  There was no reason why they did exactly what they did,  it was a choice, one of many possible choices.  The Eagles could give Covey a lot of snaps or they could give Covey few snaps this year.  Not at all certain what they're going to do.

I think Howie thought the returns were rich and the draft was poor. He said they didn’t have as many UDFAs for that reason. Think he was happy to take the next year premium. I’m not sure it was about missing out. He’d take a 3 for a late 4 every day.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

Well, he did get snaps at WR.  That makes him a WR.

The Eagles were trying very hard for the record number of snaps for a WR duo, and when you're going for that record,  there aren't too many snaps to go around to other WRs.

The basic way teams look at it is that the PR is often a WR who doesn't get a lot of snaps.  He's generally a speedy versatile weapon in the slot.  And that's what Covey is.   He's a pretty normal agile PR type.  Who knows how many snaps each of the WRs get.  Typically the Eagles are in no great hurry to give rookies a lot of snaps.

I’m with you. He played the board and poor draft masterfully. Also if you heard Sirriani it’s clear they wanted Shipley. It sounded like they really wanted Smith too. So we’re essentially taking about the last few picks of players and obviously they wanted Trotter in the 5th

When I look at the list of names that the Eagles *missed* this weekend as a result of divesting from the draft after round 2…..it makes me appreciate Howie’s approach that much more.

This draft contains zero players after round 2 that I was passionate about.  The guys they *missed* on, collectively, are probably going to have zero impact in this league.

Made the best of a bad draft and ended up with two blue chip talents at positions of need.  And Howie managed to give us more than a little bit of fun with what he did with the crap available in rounds 3-7.

A+ draft for me

My grandfather used to go to the movies with a quarter in his pocket and come back with change.   You constantly reference ancient history.  What he did at Utah is completely irrelevant at this point.  He is what he is, and the Eagles have made it clear what he is... he's a PR only.

Once upon a time, Ty Detmer held the record in the NCAA for most: pass attempts, completions, passing yards, TD passes, total yards of offense and passer rating...     but when he came to the NFL, he became a backup QB to players who didn't have nearly the same statistical success in NCAA as him.    In NCAA, Detmer was a record setter.  In the NFL, he was a backup QB.   When Covey was at Utah, he was their top WR.  In the NFL, he's not close.  He's a PR only.

We can crow about getting DeJean but it’s worth remembering that Washington got Mikey Sanristill and Ben Sinnott with 50 and 53. Who won that trade?

Prediction:  Alec Bohm will be an All-Star this year.

Hopefully Ranger stays healthy he has a shot at cy young. He’s been absolutely incredible this year. Someone on Phillies thread said it best, his demeanor out there is like when cliff lee was at his height just cool and calm. Plus evolving as a pitcher.
