He won't be active on game day?

His arms are so long, he could reach over the field and block the kick from the sidelines.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

That's one good reason :).  Guess I think he beats out Parker

I wouldnt be shocked if he came in on jumbo packages with Lane lining up at TE.

Thumbs up for that!

We'll likely never know. I've had a feeling for a while though that since Lane has been so incredibly good for this team and the standard of having a top OL in football for years, when Lane retires, they're going to want the least level of drop off possible. Not just at RT but across the whole line. I don't think Howie is going to want to live in a reality where the OL falls apart without Lane. So I do think if/when they address RT, it will be the guy they think has the best chance of being an elite OT. That doesn't mean that they won't take other random dart board throws along the way. When the Eagles value a position they usually address it in a variety of ways and keep investing in it. But given the Eagles offseason and how they locked up so many players and addressed so many long-term needs, I could actually see Howie trading a big chunk of his draft capital next year to move into the top 10 for the top OT, for example. Should one be available that is worthy of doing so.

Or,  same thing,  but when Lane actually does retire.   Lane started week 1 of his rookie year.  The Eagles might just do exactly what they did with Lane.

In addition to BG retiring, here are players not under contract after 2024.  Sweat is the only valued starter.  The rest seem to be a bunch of replicable vets and depth guys.  Thoughts?

 Josh Sweat
 Milton Williams
 Kenneth Gainwell
 Rick Lovato

 Mekhi Becton
 Albert Okwuegbunam
 C.J. Uzomah
 Matt Hennessy
 Fred Johnson
 DeVante Parker
 Parris Campbell
 Marlon Tuipulotu
 Patrick Johnson
 Devin White
 Oren Burks
 Avonte Maddox
 Isaiah Rodgers
 Zech McPhearson
 Josh Jobe (RFA)
 Mario Goodrich (RFA)
 Britain Covey (RFA)

Becton has played some tight end in past. Think they find a way to get him on the field in different spots. Can be a 6th lineman on goal line. Even played RB in college. Feels like this coaching staff is going to be a lot more unpredictable on both sides of the ball and will be willing to shuffle people around and tinker. Regardless, he should get a few starts at tackle as Lane has had his share of injuries and is getting older. And Stout may experiment with him at guard. One thing for sure, if he's any good this year Howie won't let him leave the building.

Also,  Defensive Tackle.

Well they don't exactly play the same position, but if Davis proves incapable of playing extended snaps at a non-gassed level (as he has for the last 2 years), that is going to translate into more snaps for Williams in one way or another.

Williams isn't ever playing Davis's role.  He's in  the  3 technique position in the base and pass rushing situations.   Davis didn't have limited snaps last season because he was gassed last season.  He played 519 snaps.  Carter had 563.  Cox had 684. Williams had 494.   They have a lot of snaps to replace. Ideally we would see something like Carter and Davis having the near 60% number that Cox had last season.  Where I would like to see Davis play more is in clear passing situations.  I do think that's where he wasn't getting reps.

I just realized the Eagles have two Mekhi's on the roster. There can't be many Mekhi's out there in existence. Small world.

Expect fewer snaps on defense with a competent DC and more talent in the secondary.

Sweat and Williams we will want to keep. I’m guessing we can only afford Sweat.

Becton, Hennessy and Rodgers are the names that stand out as players who could play their way into a new deal as significant contributors.

Only 3 in the NFL and the Eagles have two. Need to get Mekhi Blackmon to complete the trio.

Howie prefers 1st round offensive linemen to 1st round CBs.

I think he gave up more sacks last year, 12, than Mailata and Lane has over 3 years.   Plus he had 18 Penalties.  Dude is a one man drive killer.

Interesting film breakdown on Quinyon Mitchell from a couple of months back.  He points out some of the good traits as well as areas for improvement.  Pretty balanced assessment.  I don’t think he’s done one for Cooper DeJean, and probably won’t as he’s mainly a Steelers guy doing a few draft lead-up videos:

Thanks for posting. Glad to see Howie offer up that we had 24 first round grades. Interesting to see him also admit that they had a chance to move up but decided against it because it f how the board was falling. Since he didn’t say it was for Mitchell, I think that’s an admission it was for someone else. There were rumors that it was for the Washington OT. Anyone else stand out?
