Think Zech Mcphearson has any shot whatsoever to make the 53? Everyone is analyzing the CB position and he isn't even being listed. I just assume he's gone, but I'm curious if there's anyone out there who thinks the guy may have a spot on the team.

More confident next season taking their game to the next level: Jordan Davis or Nakobe Dean?

This is tough. These are the two players I have the least amount of confidence in moving forward. With that being said, Jordan Davis.

No.  He stinks. He's been around a few years. If it's pretty equal,  they probably give the nod to a new guy who might develop.

I almost wonder if on third down we abandon a MLB entirely with him acting as the traditional LB in dime packages.

You're saying we should play Jalyx Hunt at MLB in Dime packages? Have I got that right?

Yes. At some point, obviously he will likely not be ready for that role immediately.

Would free up #27 for Mitchell if he wants it.

Yeah if that happens, something has gone horribly wrong and we have officially F'ed up the LB position in ways that surpass what happened last season.

Disagree.

The plan for Hunt is to be a coverage player with some pass rush ability. Would seem to be perfect as a dime linebacker.

He's an OLB / Edge, not an ILB. How insanely bad would Dean, White, and Baby Trot have to suck for that to happen? This harkens back to when we were tossing around the idea of BG stepping in at Mike because Casey Mathews had all the instincts of a bag of hammers.

Big difference playing OLB/Edge and dropping into coverage then playing Dime MLB. Don't ever see that happening unless he is there to rush the QB from that position. So many other options then this one honestly. This would be if all our DBs and LBs were injured.

Who do you believe is a better coverage linebacker?

Any actual LB on our roster and not a project edge rusher.

No.

Hunt was drafted because of his ability to drop in coverage. This is a staple of Fangio. He’s not a pure pass rusher at all.

He would either rush the passer or drop into the short/middle zone.

What LB on our roster has better coverage skills (potentially*).

Clearly, Hurts can’t stand for others getting attention.

Oh right, I forgot a 3-4 OLB's coverage responsibilites overlap so well with that of an ILB's in dime packages, my mistake!

Nobody said he was.

Yep. Not to mention we're talking about him doing it mid-way through his rookie season. The blog is fun.

TEW's hot take was so bad, he's even got my agreeing with RTK.

Yes, picking up a TE or RB in a short zone is definitely similar regardless of if you are lined up at OLB or ILB.

I'd say a long shot at best. Feels like he'll be a PS guy maybe.

Right, right, and reading keys while making drops to all these zones are the same between the two. Clearly why you see it happen all the time, because it's no sweat for a seasoned vet let alone a rookie that's never played in the defensive scheme before. So easy a caveman can do it!

Looked like he needed to be dealt with and Big Dom took care of business.

Dom is escorting him to the rookies to show off his vocal leadership skills and inspire the new young teammates.
