Also helps.

I try to think the way lurie would be looking at it after last night. I think they know the defense is a mess and it’s gonna take time to rebuild that. But the offense has all the talent in the world to be a top three. I also kind of think he believes he can find another Jim Schwartz type of defensive coordinator on the market that can go with his head coach. I think it’s much harder to find a good OC that will stay if the Eagles offense has success. You are essentially gonna be back in the Shane Steichen issue if that OC is worth anything. I don’t think he wants to get himself back into that problem. So i think he wants a young innovative coach that doesn’t need to rely heavily on his OC to have success. He wants an Andy Reid.

Andy Reids just dont grow on trees, hes a HOF coach with a HOF offensive mind.

Im not sure whose out there who is a proven offensive mind that isnt looking to turn their success in a HC gig if Siri were to stay.

Problem with hiring all these young up and comers as head coaches is they all bring all their young buddies with them and if they have any modicum of success they bail for HC jobs like steichen and Gannnon.

Id look at more established guys who are fine being " just" coordinators.

Not sure who those guys are but they exist.

This is exactly what will happen, but I think Nick will have better answers than Doug did.  Doug wanted to keep interns as coordinators and Lurie/Howie knew that plan was sheer hogwash.  Doug had also expressed a plan to install Hurts as starting QB even with Wentz still there, which wasn't realistic.

Nick needs to tell Lurie what he needs to hear, not what he thinks Lurie wants to hear:

1.  The current offensive scheme needs to be scrapped because Hurts can't operate it.

2.  Draft needs to be defense, defense, defense -- and the BACK 7, not DL.  Draft safety early, draft LB in Round 2, draft a stiff RB in Round 3.

3.  Bring in an experienced DC who will run an aggressive defense.

4.  The defense is a multi-year rebuild, from the pins up.  DL isn't in terrible shape, but LB and DB is awful.  Significant overhaul needed.

Those would be my answers.

Maybe. But if I were Lurie hearing this I'd go down that route but with a better HC at the helm anyway.

Que????????? The logical answer is replacing his coordinators which couldnt really be done in season. Lurie obviously knows that.

Nick did replace a coordinator, but he conflated the situation, replaced the wrong one and it blew up in his face and it fractured the team.

Our best opportunity to "fix" the defense was to address the offense to counter the changes opposing defenses were making, but Siri just decided to be stubborn because he's an infallible tryhard.

I get what you're saying about quick turnover, it's not a good look, but Nick Sirianni is a liablity to this organization.

Why should Nick stay? Can you gives reasons excluding the record?

  • Firing Nick would mean his results become the expectation floor.
  • If we fire a third head coach, then our organization becomes extremely unattractive to a coach worth their salt.
  • Three playoff appearances in three years.
  • Super Bowl last year.
  • Has never had even one coordinator with more experience than he has, unlike Doug who had them on both sides of the ball from year 1.

If you want to tank the credibility of our organization by turning our team into a coaching carousel despite the fact that our last two coaches have both appeared in Super Bowls and yet both got short leash fired when they struggled a little, go ahead and fire Nick. Me personally though, I don't think it's worth the damage to the organization.

On top of that, the vast majority of heralded candidates to replace them are either young coaches (which present the exact same problem), or organizational contradictions which will end up in power struggles with Howie Roseman in short order (Belichick, Vrabel, Harbaugh).

If a GM hires a young coach, and does not accept that the coach will have to learn things, then that GM is complicit and equally responsible. ESPECIALLY if they the coordinator replacements be both younger than said young head coach.

Same, simply because he's battle tested, he'll fix the defense and players will fight for him till the end.

I think the team could use an alpha male type. It’s kind of cheesy, but it is what it is.

I know they don’t grow on trees. But that doesn’t mean Jeffrey lurie isn’t gonna stop searching for it. There’s a reason why every single HC hire he’s made since Ray Rhodes has been an offensive minded coach.

I like slowik because he’s essentially running that offense in houston. So he knows how to already. Say what we want about doug and sirianni they had reich and reid running the offense and they were not in the same position someone like slowik is

Similar numbers last 3 years. He would be perfectly fine as a power back

Sure in an ideal world hed be a great power back but at what cost???

Hes not coming in to play for the vet minimum.

He'll have multiple suitors for his services and i dont think the benefits will outweigh the cost for an aging player

Is there anyone available from the Andy Reid coaching tree?

A move everyone was calling for not because anyone thought Patricia was the answer- but because something had to be done with this defense as Desai clearly wasnt up to the task.

No one was calling for Matt Patricia except the idiot coach, and you I guess.  And we all saw how that turned out.

Maybe.  As bad as Washington was this past year, he seemed to do a lot with the talent he had tbh.

I think Hurts, especially after last night's performance will be a liability for any coach who wants to bring in a pro style offense.

I disagree. Entirely. I actually think hurts will thrive in pro style rather than spread. Will be able to run the ball downhill and work off of play action.

Days like this make me eternally grateful for 2017.  All I ever wanted was to see the Eagles win a Superbowl in my lifetime. We got that.  If not, today would have been some serious depression.

Now, it is just disappointment.  No amount of worrying about it is going to change it.  Just glad we have that Lombardi and yes I want another one badly but it isn't as vital to my happiness as it was before.  So thanks Big D Nick, BG, Kelce, Fletch and all of that team for giving us that.

Wonder how open he would be to being a DC???

He was a great LB coach under Reid, made caldwell somehow servicable.

Had trotter of course and emmons...

Wow remember when eagles had LBs?
