  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

I don’t disagree with you. He’s gonna be a lame duck but the optics don’t look as bad after firing him after a collapse, a bad 2024 and two years removed from SB

If we start off below 500 after like 5-6 weeks, the wheels could completely fall off

I don't see how this defense improves from historically bad to much better in one offseason.

Real possibility this team starts 2-4 in 24.

I’d expect that if they start off slow. If they don’t get off to a fast start i think it implodes

The Eagles draw the AFC North next season which will be tough, but they also draw the NFC South which figures to be easier.  Their second place schedule draw is at Rams (not a tough place to play) and home to the Packers and Jaguars.  Not that rough a schedule with the Giants and Commanders still not very good.

It will be interesting to see if Dan Quinn gets a head coaching job; if he does the DAL defense will change.  The expectation on Sirianni will be to win the division and at least one playoff game, I would expect.

I think fans see replays and assume the QB can see things like we do. Shakir was very likely ahead of Diggs in the progression. If not, I’d agree, but I doubt he saw the coverage bust on Diggs and decided nah. .

If we’ve learned anything from this year it should be that record doesn’t matter. The Eagles based on their record had a good year, but this was a below .500 team.

One actual starting caliber player at LB and S and this is an average defense. They had nothing in the middle of the field this year and that's why they were so horrid. Blank could be good but he misses so much time. Gets some kind of injury almost every game it seems, otherwise he'd be at least average

Seems like this is the situation at OC:

  • Howie/Lurie waiting to see if BJ gets hired so they can get those 2 comp picks. If so, clean hire of a new OC
  • If BJ not hired elsewhere, someone will be hired as a "Senior Offensive Assistant" or some consultant to look over his shoulder
  • They may even reshuffle and bring in more than 1 consultant like they did when Doug was here. Claim it's not a demotion: BJ is "Senior Offensive Assistant," new guy is QB Coach/Pass Game Coordinator (to be promoted to OC if BJ fired later) or some weird setup that won't work.

The defense was so bad they had to make a change and that should be more clearcut, just get an experienced DC who knows what they're doing.

That begs the question of how much input Sirianni has on roster construction.  There are too many holes to patch in one offseason and replacing Kelce (assuming he retires) becomes a larger issue if Steen is not ready to start at RG.  I have a feeling I know what Howie prioritizes for this offseason, but for me it would be:

LB — need one high-level off ball LB who can make the second LB better.  Counting on Dean to start in 2024 would be foolish

S — not comfortable at all with Blankenship and Sydney Brown as starters.  Need an upgrade at free safety

DE — need a true DE.  Reddick is an EDGE, as is Nolan Smith

CB — do they gamble on Ringo/Ricks/Jobe starting at outside CB?

CB — get a nickel CB who can play; don’t pay Maddox another cent.

OG/OT — depth needed at both positions

RB — draft some young legs

If this happens, my Sundays will be unusually free in the fall

Tend to think the eagles address Lb and S in FA. It’s a decent safety class. I think linebacker they would rather pay for experience than rely on an unproven rookie. I think they basically did that this year with Dean and it didn’t pan out. So i see them over correcting and paying someone in FA. Normally I would say the Eagles would never pay at Lb, but when the teams that are left remaining have a good linebackers and it’s obvious how bad yours are that seems to be the time they going overcorrect

In the draft, i think you are gonna get DE, OG/OT, CB early. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rb they go FA or a trade like they did with swift last year. a lot of RBs in free agency though: swift, Henry, pollard, josh jacobs, ekeler, foreman, jk dobbins, barkley, CEH, aj Dillion and Zach moss. Some guys in last year of contract are: Jones, mixon, Connor, Mattison, javonte Williams and Stevenson

I didn't see the vast majority of this game, but I see we got another 'Wide Right' tonight.

Is Buffalo NY on suicide watch?

Chiefs thoroughly outplayed the Bills in that game. It was only close because of the fumble. The Bills defense was awful in that game. And they only scored 7 2nd half points. Chiefs average 7.7 yards per play.

Chiefs averaged 7.7 yards per play. Bills averaged 4.7 yards per play. If you value DVOA, the Chiefs crushed the Bills in DVOA for that game. Chiefs has a 76% DVOA for the game which is pretty crazy.

How much worse could they get?

I have to believe they will improve somewhat.   No where to go but up.

Teams can make jumps if they get the right coordinators and players.

Pretty hard to be worse than they were for the last half of the season.

Oh I’ve said the bills defense was bad today. They let the chiefs look like last year and previous years’ chiefs. Josh Allen shoulders a lot of blame but the defense was atrocious. Can say injuries for bills but this chiefs offense had scored 27 or more points in just 1 of their last 7 games. And all year scored 27 or more in just 4 of their first 18. Raiders have far worse personnel than the bills did a better job. As did broncos twice, eagles, packers (who at that time dealing with a bunch of injuries). It’s why I said I would move on from Sean McDermott because I don’t think he’s good enough of a defensive coach to be able to put a game plan together to stop Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. This was arguably, Patrick Mahomes, and Andy Reids worst offense. And yet you still couldn’t prevent them from scoring 27. And they were super fortunate they got the fumble they did because it would’ve been in the 30s which would only been the second time since week 8

It’s interesting that the offense only threw 5.2% of passes to the middle of the field.  The defense was also weak in the middle of the field.

If they practiced most throws to the outside, like they called during games, then the defense might have actually looked better during practice - giving them a "false sense” that the defense was  better than they actually were.

And players saying that "practice” shows itself on the field during games makes even more sense now.
