The way I see it, Rivera at best would be fine. His ceiling is "well at least he's not Patricia". He's the type of guy you pitch to Lurie when you have no connections around the league, and no real answer to fix the defense. You just pander to Lurie and bring in the old Eagles guy whose a name.

I think they could do better and get someone with a higher ceiling, even if it brings more risk to the floor.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

Is this in case they gotta fire Nick by week 10?

A guy who believes in the importance of LB on a team that doesn't care about them. What could go wrong?

OTOH, you could be hiring a guy that knows how to coach up LBs, and possibly someone who could get a little more out of Nakobe Dean.

From that one tweet this may seem like a Lurie push if he's a family friend

For those who hate Lurie, remember he got us a Super Bowl and spends like crazy, not just for players but for coaches and FO staff.

That's all fine and dandy.  However the bottom line is that Jeffrey Lurie has delivered one SB victory in 30 years of owning the team.

That's the very definition of mediocrity.

Maybe we can get Marty Shottenheimer for offense to go with Rivera? Bring back some 2006 plays? They won’t see us comin

We need to get back to that Tough Eagles Defense.

You will get soft and passive, and you will like it!!

You guys like Wink for DC?

No. I think he would be the disaster move.

He would be the over-correction move they make. Get away from Fangio and go to primary man coverage and blitz 50% of the time. Use the blitz to generate pressure and not the super expensive d-line you sunk tons of assets into. And hope Slay (and Bradberry if he's back) can cover long enough in man to get home.

Then there's his personality. He got into fights with Daboll and probably wouldn't hold his tongue when it comes to Nick. Or even Howie. Not giving up the explosive play seems to be more of a Howie/analytic thing than Nicks call. So what happens when they are giving up too many big plays?

I also think he's pretty overrated. He was nice for a bit, but Baltimore improved moving on from him. NYG D has sucked with him.

Eagles fans would love him though.

I'm indifferent to the Rivera news, we could certainly do better, but it seems like a sensible approach.

Irrelevant now, but can't help but to feel bad for Desai. I honestly think he tried with the pieces provided, actually made adjustments when possible but was rewarded with a demotion then fired...not a good look from the organization.

He’s kinda dead.

Howie isn't new to this rodeo. Rivera isn't going to change a 14 year philosophy.

"oh LB's are important to you? Fine, we'll re-sign Nick Morrow."

That's why Rivera fits, he dealt with Snyder for years, he'll go along, to get along.  Plus Nick going into a lame duck season won't bother him either.   Nick's job security, or lack thereof may keep some candidates away.  I don't see Martindale as a good fit either, if he doesn't mind arguing with coaches, imagine what he'll tell Howie when Howie shows up to meetings, plus practices and starts yelling at a player, lol.  Wink would stuff him in a garbage can.

How many did we have before Lurie?

I'd give Brandon Staley a shot before Rivera.

Whatever it is they'll need to make sure Davis, Carter, and Nolan fit

Hate to say it but Carter is my only building block.

I'd love for Nolan Smith to be a player but he just feels positionless to me. Can he be a true WLB? He's definitely not cut out to be a DE. They drafted him to be the next Hasson Reddick and from all accounts, the guys they are interviewing don't employ defenses that have a Hasson Reddick position. The good thing about Smith is he's a terrific athlete and I think they could mold him to be something. Another guy with a great attitude that you want on your team too.

I think Davis could be prime trade bait for a team that runs a true 3-4. I'm not convinced he's a building block here. I don't see him getting a 5th year option after next year. The article below doesn't really fill me with confidence that he's ever going to be much more than a run stuffing DT who plays 50% of the snaps. He's a likeable dude, is accountable and honest but he's probably best served as a true Nose Tackle.

This quote alone frustrates me. You don't take a guy at pick 13 after trading 4 picks just for him to be a run stuffer who MIGHT play 50% of the snaps. He got in the best shape of his life for 2023 to play 45% of the snaps and even that was too much for him.

Because of his job as a run-stuffer, Davis will never be judged on his stats alone but his production fell off a cliff during the 2023 season.

"My body is beat. I can tell y’all that for sure,” he said. "It’s a long season, long grind. At the end of the day, I know what it takes. I have to do even more.

We won 0 of the first 28 SB's pre-Lurie.  Below average.

We won 1 of the next 30 SB's post-Lurie.  Average.

This is Rivera's best chance to become a head coach again.  Come here as DC and take over when Siri is inevitably canned, perhaps as soon as midseason 2024.

Imagine the Coordinators next year are Cooter & Wink.

Sounds like a redneck comedy duo.

Holy crap, I just saw the Ron Rivera DC Interview news. Is he coming home?

Didn't they say they were impressed by Bucs as well?

This was my top choice.

I like Wink better than Rivera but not as much as some of the others.

Not sure if they said they were impressed but they said they constantly saw blitzes they've never seen before and they didn't have an answer for them.
