The way I see it, Rivera at best would be fine. His ceiling is "well at least he's not Patricia". He's the type of guy you pitch to Lurie when you have no connections around the league, and no real answer to fix the defense. You just pander to Lurie and bring in the old Eagles guy whose a name.

I think they could do better and get someone with a higher ceiling, even if it brings more risk to the floor.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

Hate to say it but Carter is my only building block.

I'd love for Nolan Smith to be a player but he just feels positionless to me. Can he be a true WLB? He's definitely not cut out to be a DE. They drafted him to be the next Hasson Reddick and from all accounts, the guys they are interviewing don't employ defenses that have a Hasson Reddick position. The good thing about Smith is he's a terrific athlete and I think they could mold him to be something. Another guy with a great attitude that you want on your team too.

I think Davis could be prime trade bait for a team that runs a true 3-4. I'm not convinced he's a building block here. I don't see him getting a 5th year option after next year. The article below doesn't really fill me with confidence that he's ever going to be much more than a run stuffing DT who plays 50% of the snaps. He's a likeable dude, is accountable and honest but he's probably best served as a true Nose Tackle.

This quote alone frustrates me. You don't take a guy at pick 13 after trading 4 picks just for him to be a run stuffer who MIGHT play 50% of the snaps. He got in the best shape of his life for 2023 to play 45% of the snaps and even that was too much for him.

Because of his job as a run-stuffer, Davis will never be judged on his stats alone but his production fell off a cliff during the 2023 season.

"My body is beat. I can tell y’all that for sure,” he said. "It’s a long season, long grind. At the end of the day, I know what it takes. I have to do even more.

2 years in, Jordan Davis is a bad pick.  Most likely a result of Lowie's philosophy to spend all their assets (money, high picks) on the lines and totally neglect other positions, thereby forcing a high pick on him instead of taking Kyle Hamilton who was probably the BPA.

Hoping he lives up to the hype next year.  We need it.

Right exactly

Probably was told he's not getting linebackers, safeties and will need to defer to the analytical dept and Howie for his defensive schemes.

The Eagles are off to another underwhelming offseason...

I just don't think he can. This isn't a BG vs Earl Thomas thing either. This is, can they get their top 15 pick on the field for 1/2 the damn snaps. There's only so much in shape a 6-6 340 lb guy can get. I don't have high hopes of him suddenly playing 60% of the snaps and being a disrupter. Our hopes now are that he plays 45% of the snaps again but this time, don't fall apart in doing so. That's terrible for such a high pick and the other draft capital invested in him.

Matthew Stafford, no?

Good call, should have double checked the stat before parroting it

Edit: ah, it was about banging your head against the wall with the same team every year. Always is the only one that took longer with the Team that drafted them

The Eagles dilly dallying costing themselves interviews again. Good job, fellas.

They probably meant "with his original team" or something.

This is all going to set up a bad 2024 season where Nick gets fired and we completely clean house. It's 2015/2020 all over again unless Howie kills the draft.

Doesn’t exactly run an aggressive scheme. Rushes 4 with 7 covering.

His schemes also work best with great LB play - Kuechley and Davis for years. Will this FO get him the LBs?

What Martindale and Rivera do is bring an adult into the room with Siri.  A little maturity to reign in the HC.

No one else seems to have any interest in Rivera. IF he's their top candidate at the moment, stall long enough and see if Ejiro Evero eventually comes free. He probably wouldn't be here for long, but he's what I would want for now.

Rivera has coached in the division for a few years. He knows the teams. Might be more than adequate from an NFC East perspective.

Honestly, he probably just sees it as a better job.

Yeah, definitely don't want that so don't want to hire him as DC.

Think they're too talented to be bad but generally, I think you're right. Feels like it's headed toward a low seed wildcard and quick exit at best with a clean house and everyone's pissed they didn't do it sooner.

I wouldn't count on that from either of them.  Seems like they like to mix it up with other coaches

We need the Goldilocks option... not too young, not too old... just right.

That's what I tell people . Does it matter who the defensive coordinator is? If a stupid system is forced on him.

Maybe it's Lurie giving a family friend a nudge to drum up interest from other teams? They see he's interested in DC so now they know they should interview him too?

Nick enters the season on the hot-seat. If we start slow, or Hurts get injured, it'll go downhill FAST.

Maybe. They also usually are pretty extensive in their coaching searches, so I expect them to interview a lot of other options.

Since we're entering lame duck HC territory just give me Bieniemy as OC.

He's more than capable in replacing Nick midseson and becoming our future HC.
