  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

I don't like Jalen Carter being a 3-4 DE though. He'll still be good there but I think his best position is an attacking DT in a 4-3. However, Carter and Milton Williams are nearly prototypical 3-4 DE.

I agree, I think Carter will feast here.

I think Nolan Smith is going to be a player here too fast to go to waste, Dean on the other hand, I think it’s a wrap.

I'm not a Dean fan but trying to be positive here.

Dean in a 4-3 is THE man in the middle. In a 3-4, he's playing next to someone and I think that takes a lot of pressure off of him and it's not as easy for the offense to just identify the Mike. Say they run a 3-4 and bring in a FA like Kenneth Murray.

Nolan Smith    Nakobe Dean   Kenneth Murray   Hasson Reddick

I realized as I posted that how it sounds but I PREFER him at a 4-3 DT. However, he is a prototypical 3-4 DE. That doesn't mean he's best there but his build and skillset is perfect for it.

If he's better suited as a 4-3 DT then he's not exactly perfect or prototypical as a 3-4 DE, but whatever, I agree that he'll be good regardless, because the kid clearly has talent.

Hard to runs 4-2-5 when you really only have personnel for a 4-0-3

You're giving Blankenship too much credit.

Any names Fangio could bring as DL coach?

I assume he will try to recruit Austin Clark from Miami

Anyone but Tracy Rocker as DL coach.

I guess I'm looking at it from an impact standpoint. 4-3 DT, they are good, should make a bigger impact on a game, which is what I'd love to see from Carter. Disruptive, getting in the backfield, making plays behind the LOS. That's what Carter should be doing. However, his build and skillset is the prototype for 3-4, but that position has far less impact. They are more occupiers than they are disrupters if that makes sense.

I can't see that name without shuddering.   I know its his kid, but I can't get behind anyone with that name.   Hate the guy... Jim Washburn will forever be a pariah to me.

If there ever was a time to move Josh Sweat from a contractual standpoint, this is the year to do it.

Gotta say, the most annoying/worst thing I keep hearing is "well, at least he's not a threat to get poached for a HC job!"

Is that where we are really at? Happy to get a lower coach instead of someone whose best at the job?

Yes

It would cost us an extra 5M to trade or cut him before June 1st according to OTC.

Should have mentioned, I was looking at a post-June 1

Fangio basically admits he was going to be the Eagles hire last year.

Depends on the scheme, if they are one-gapping vs two-gapping, lined up as a 3-t, 4i-t, vs 5-t, etc. Fangio asks his guys to play leveraged one-gap, whereas Philips had em pure one-gapping across the board. He understood that if you had to give up yards in the air vs the ground, the latter is much less likely to be a dagger that you can't recover from. That's why Philips is one of the best to ever field a 3-4 defense, and Fangio is out the door in Miami after just one season. That's not to say Fangio is a moron who has no clue what he's doing, but he needs a decent amount of talent to be successful, otherwise you get thoroughly mediocre results.

Bring him in! Bring him in!
