A few things catching up on today's news:

-People shitting on the Fangio hire are morons. I hate his style of defense but it can be effective if done right and he's a very good coach. I suppose some of you would rather have Wink Martindale because he likes to blitz eventhough he isn't that good of a coach. Baltimiore's defense got better when they got rid of him. Anyway Fangio will be a MASSIVE upgrade over what they had this season.

-I think people take these end of season OC's way too seriously and 90% of what was said was either Nick rambling or Howie keeping his plan close to the vest. The one thing that stuck out to me is this though. Assuming this was Nick's offense before, it's not going to be moving forward and they are quite clearly looking to go in a completely different direction there. When Nick talked about making changes to the offense and then when asked what his role is talked about culture and maybe getting more involved in defensive meetings this became quite clear.

So bottom line is, Fanio is the head coach of the defense, their next OC hire will likely be someone with major play calling and/or head coaching experience, and Nick's job will be to play horse with the guys and give them flower planting analogies.

Fangio is a WAY better coach than Martindale. Notice how the Ravens D got better AFTER he left. I would prefer a much more aggressive defense but it doesn't mean I want an inferior coach in the process.

Would I have liked to see them run more? Yes.  Would I have liked to see less WR screens or Hurts QB draws?  Yes.  Was Siri calling these?  Was BJ calling these?   Was Jalen changing anything?  We know Jalen and AJ would go rogue sometimes.  AJ admitted such happened at the end of the Seattle game.

 

The Head Coach is in charge of everything you listed. Play calling, more runs, players not doing what they're supposed to...if the HC doesn't like it, do something about it.

Lol, some people will believe anything. I vaguely remember him just not the name. Didn't he actually get one or two things right (probably just guessed and got lucky) and then just go crazy making up BS.

So there are four openings left. Vrabel, Belichick, McDonald, Canales, Johnson, Morris, Evero, Slowik etc are all available. 

We can confidently say Johnson will take one of the four jobs. That means at least four of the above coaches will be available next year. Then there will be more up and coming offensive coaches getting HC buzz like Shane Waldron and Zac Robinson, Frank Smith or whomever on Shanahan’s coaching staff. 

Just something to file away for the future.

Well there’s over 100 defensive coordinators at the college level. There’s 32 at the pro level with 2-3 coaches under each one of them who may be qualified. There are several who weren’t working last season as a DC as well, with previous experience. 
 

So yes, Ron Rivera, Vic Fangio, and Wink Martindale should get consideration. We’re being lazy if that’s the extent of our candidates. Two lateral philosophical moves and a shakeup blitzer in Wink is all we can look forward to? Yikes.
