Idk, can’t speak for others, but for me it’s not astronomical. The DC next year can’t be any worse than what we just witnessed. Or can he?!🤔

I want to see a defense that can stop the opposition and get off the field on a consistent basis (realistically speaking, not expecting domination). Have the players in the right position and for god’s sake be able to tackle. Getting more turnovers would be nice too. I don’t think that’s too much to ask of a functional defense. Anything above that is just topping on the cake.

Turnovers and tackling.  That would be charming.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

I get the angst of some not wanting the Fangio scheme, but wouldn’t it be better to have the man behind the scheme.  Others trying to copy it likely do not have his same ability to adjust when needed or call the right play at the right time.  It’s not a simple copy and paste.

What I do like about Fangio is he seems to do well against Dak Prescott…a heck of a lot better than the DCs we’ve had anyway.  I don’t think Dak is this great QB, but he’s had the Eagles number more often than not.  Would like to see that change

Interesting tidbit (at least interesting to me)...

Vic Fangio was a defensive assistant of the Philadelphia Stars back in the original USFL days.

There are certainly some concerns. He isn’t an infallible defensive mind. He’s had some dud years in there. He’s crotchety. His knockoff versions all struggled mightily.

But he’s a legit defensive mind, and has won with different styles. The knock in Miami was that he wouldn’t take feedback from players and wouldn’t let Ramsey shadow top receivers (especially into the slot) because he didn’t like how it would change the rules of his zone. That said, I read that he did make some tweaks: more blitzing, more stunting, more press coverage down the stretch.

That won't be an issue here.  We don't have anyone worthy of doing that anymore.

Just took a peak on the Cowboys board and there is a Fangio thread.  It’s not unanimous (nothing really is), but most there are not happy with the idea of Fangio being the Eagles DC.

True enough…I also think Ramsey probably still sees himself as he was a few years ago, and Fangio didn’t.  Especially coming off his injury

This time last year, Michael Clay was awful and had to be replaced. A year later, he's no longer a concern.  Funny what can happen within a 12 month period.

He was brought in as a consultant to scout the offense. I’m sure Gannon picked his brain, but it’s not like he rolled in and designed the game plan for the defense.

Because the Eagles are openly in love with him, I'm willing to bet he had conversations with Gannon. I'm not saying we rolled his game plan and the blame largely goes on Gannon, obviously. What I am saying is the following:

Fangio was brought in and shortly after we blew a double digit lead and left players comically wide open. I'm not blaming Fangio specifically, I'm just pointing out. We followed up this year running a "Fangio Defense" that underperformed the entire season and had a collapse of epic proportions. We are now looking at bringing in Fangio to run that style defense, yet again, after Miami cut ties. Players on the Dolphins have criticized him. The defense wasn't superb.

My point is and always has been, we've had much more negative than positive in this regard, I think it's fair that people question the hire and have concerns.

We don’t get Fangio I bet Harbaugh will

Of course it’s fair to question any hire. The amount of negativity with the hire is just over the top.

Miami had ~30 more missed tackles than we did last season. More picks and sacks for sure. But they’re one of the worst talking teams in the league and very similar or even worse at many passing statistics.

So Fangio it will be. We will see how it works out. Should be better than what we saw this year.

Just don’t get why people think it is overblown to question the Fangio hire. I’m not knocking him as a coach, as he has proven himself in the league. I guess I’m just tired of watching his/this scheme  for the last couple of years and seeing the mediocre results from the defense. It just screams "soft” and Miami being even worse at missed tackles doesn’t bode well for our already crappy defense.

It will only be better if they bring in good pieces to add to this defense. If they don't then it will be another complete ish show next year on defense. It worries me with the soft coverages and the missed tackles in Miami but I do also like the pick.

They can hire Fangio, Belichick, Parcells, Rex Ryan, Mike Zimmer and Dick Labeau to run this defense together.

Won't make a difference unless they improve personnel.

Decent read. Kind of went generic at times didn’t really go too meta on his schemes. But good to see some easy examples of stuff. Hopefully we can just impact the passing game better and tackle. Which his defense allowed 67% completion one of the worst in the league and one of the worst tackling teams as well. They had a bunch of sacks though.

Looks like we’ll need a new defense lol.

So in other words... Right now Fangio doesn't have the pieces to succeed because the S and LB options are amongst the leagues worst and CB has Slay and then a group of younger players. I guess maybe there is hope he can help develop someone like Ricks or Ringo? But he needs to be given the players during the off season otherwise he is going to fail.

You could also make the same argument by those who think it's a home run hire. It all comes down to expectations in the end. My concerns with the hire are the talent inputs needed to get a successful output. Or what even is defined as "successful" in the first place. So maybe it's better to ask what your benchmark for his performance would be. Top-5 in pts allowed by year's end? Top-10?
