At the risk of sounding too cynical, I think Fangio and Moore are "safe" choices in that they should be high floor options but I'm not sure either one is a slam dunk hire we should be high fiving each other over. Very good chance they're both much better than the guys they're replacing, but I'm not sure that's saying all that much since it'd be pretty hard to get any worse.

I'm just looking for Moore to not get in the way of the talent on the roster.  We are plus at QB, WR1, WR2, TE, LT, LG, & RT.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

here is my two cents on Moore and Fangio

in perspective from where we ended the 2023 season, both are HUGE upgrades. Neither are projects, or up and coming........ both have track records of success in the positions they are being hired for. Both will be given talent to work with. You can win a Superbowl with Coordinators of this caliber working for a HC with limited experience (see 2017-18 with Schwartz/Reich). Both likely were excited to come to the Birds because we have some core talent, and Howie will work at adding to that to the extremes.

The next step is getting the right coaching staff under them. Having these guys with their records and reputation, will mean they will have access to quality candidates.

I like the moves so far!

Moore needs a #3WR and a back who can pick up blitzes.

Fangio needs LBs, a nickel back and safeties, Slay and Ringo can play outside. Fix the back seven and they have more than enough DL talent.

You can play off the ball if you have explosive athletes who close quickly and bring the pain (force turnovers).

The more I watch the route concepts, spacing, and use of motion Miami employed the last couple years, the more I think it's a matter of when, not if, McDaniel gets a Lombardi. Might take him a few bites at the apple, including maybe coming up short initially like McVay did, or maybe a really long stretch of that like Reid did before getting two (and now possibly in contention for a third), but either way, I think what McDaniel is doing is that effective. Shanahan might be two weeks away from putting himself in this group too.

Yeah, he might need his Stafford to really unlock the offense. By the time that happens, though, he won’t have Tyreek as a cheat code.

Reading about Moore, it’s like shopping for something and reading the reviews. Generally the thing has 4.2 stars, but you read a few one or two star reviews and you get concerned.

Vic's family being in PA was a huge factor. All in all I agree, Eagles could have done far worse than these hirings once it was known Nick was sticking around. Getting experienced QB and LB coaches will be a bonus, and hopefully they don't stop there.

Right, Hill and Mostert would be gone but Waddle and Achane are probably good enough to build around with a better QB and a half-decent defense. Maybe it even takes him going to another team to see it through like with Reid, but it just feels like an inevitability.

That's actually a pretty good analogy.

Caldwell and Fangio together should not only help identify LBs, but develop them. Way back when, Fangio was an LBs coach.

Eagles clearly hired 2 options to replace Nick as HC mid-season

Were these 1 star reviews his Cowboys or Chargers days? How much control did Staley give him knowing his job was on the line?

There's no OC candidate who would've had me jumping for joy. Even taking someone from the Shanahan or McVay tree, you get into the whole being in that tree doesn't mean you're good and it reeks of just wanting someone who's had association with a coach. And none of those guys available had experience play calling or running an offense. So there was risk there. Moore has some concerns, but given the options I think it's one of the better choices. But being in this position in the first place is why I just would've preferred they fired the coach and chase a guy like Ben Johnson to run your whole operation.

At worst, Moore should be a clear upgrade over Sirianni, and as bad as Sirianni was the Eagles talent was good enough to still give them a top 10 offense. So if Moore is an upgrade, they should be top 5 even if he isn't an Andy Reid level guru.

Staley comes from the defensive side of the ball though, so I'm not sure how much influence he'd exert on Moore outside of some situational stuff.

Interesting that in 2022 the cowboys offense struggled having their receivers get separation when you hear NFL people say he’s elite at scheming guys open. I guess we’ll find out.

The one large issue Moore had in '22 was that Lamb was the only guy DAL had that got open consistently...Lamb, Schultz, Gallup, and Noah Brown were the top 4 in '22.

Lamb, Cooks, Ferguson, and Pollard were the top 4 in '23.

Moore will have two top receivers in PHI, I would expect DG to be much more involved next year in PHI under Moore as well.

To me the more interesting story line is Moore facing DAL twice a year minimum after they cut him loose last year. Those games are going to be interesting to watch.

I think PHI could have done a heck of a lot worse, maybe a little better, but I would expect big things next year for the PHI offense. What Moore did moving Lamb all over the field in the past may be a godsend for getting D Smith more involved and putting lots of pressure on the defenses.

I was listening to Bo and Zach talk about the hire and Bo(who's the farthest thing from an Eagles homer) addressed the concerns of "Moore leaves and the Cowboys offense got better" by making the point that Dallas' offense actually didn't start the season all that great, but after the bye they adjusted and that's when it shot up the ranks. Bo said the Cowboys actually went back to running a lot of Kellen Moore's concepts and that's when the offense got on track.

I don't know if that is a known fact or if Bo just read that somewhere and took it as fact. Interested to know if that is true or not. I didn't study Dallas enough to know what they changed to improve their offense.

Agreed i will take "not stupid” schemes as a step forward

Bo is right

they sucked under Mccarthys plans then reverted to what they previously ran for the most part

Dilemma today i want both afc teams to lose

pulling for the Lions. But i think Niners are more capable of beating baltimore, who i hate

somehow i think lions have a better shot at beating KC but I really dont want a swifty super bowl

Dont see that at all. Neither has a Hc track record

Fangio does, just not great

I would have preferred to change the scheme on D but given that we are sticking with it then I'm good with Fangio.  I'm also fine with Moore.  Can't wait to give this group another shot next year.  Just hope Kelce decides to give it one more ride.

Well BJ would Be a 1 so I’ll take that all day

I doubt he's coming back and I'm kind of happy because he'd be retiring at the top of his game. Not many players can do that
