It's amusing that our coaching staff can see this play and then never tried to get him involved in the passing game more. Better catch than anyone outside of AJ or Devonta this year.

Apparently there is a schedule conflict on her part and she won't make it ..or wont make it for entire game. But some airlines are taking advantage

Don't worry, one of the first things people were tweeting about last night.

Down the stretch he definitely seemed to drop off but they literally never let him get in a groove either by refusing to run the ball and the offensive scheme just getting figured out so the plays were getting blown up constantly. If they weren't going to run it often I would've liked to see them get him involved in the passing game to at least take some heat off the OL. For some weird reason we decided that Gainwell was our passing down back again.

Once teams figured out that Hurts couldn't or wouldn't run they started ignoring him and focusing on the backs. That element is what was giving Swift the big truck holes early on. Eagles never adjusted their run concepts after that it seems. I like Swift as a change of pass back/receiver coming out of the backfield. We need a punishing power back to complement. Would be cool if they could get there hands on Trey Benson, Audric Estime, or Braelon Allen. Power backs with breakaway speed.

Figured I’d put both of you in there cause this is how I feel with swift. I feel kind of how you do about him being a change of pace and pass catching back. I said all year the biggest misuse of personnel probably was swift. Because if you go back and watch the Lions game where he was ultra effective, it’s because he was such a weapon out of the backfield. He’s probably the best past catching back we’ve had since sproles. the Eagles refused to use him in that way For much of the season. I brought it up down the stretch, Kenny Gainwell, somehow was having more receptions and games than swift. That should never happen based off the fact that swift is a much better pass catcher than gainwell. And gainwell past blocking ability really isn’t all that great to have him out there as your pass catching back.

I wouldn’t bring swift back, cause I think he’s gonna make too much and I also think his durability will come up again. I think you need a bigger, powerful runner. If we’re not gonna utilize the running back in the passing game, then really you want a guy who’s tough in between the tackles. And can pass Block

Rivera combined with the current Cowboys defense and their ability to draft extremely well could be a scary good fit.

He’d still be a downgrade.

Defense still matters, but in a different manner. You can't shut down top offenses, but you can force them into mistakes, turn the ball over or have to punt. The "bend don't break" works better against weaker offenses that'll shoot themselves in the foot, against good QBs you have to balance stopping big plays on offense with making big plays on defense.

I agree with you. But against better offenses, you better create turnovers to win games. The difference in the Niners game was that fumble. The difference in the chiefs game was the 3 turnovers. Like you said, against bad or mediocre offenses, you can play bend but don’t break. Because they’re eventually gonna shoot themselves in the foot. It’s why I said Gannon had the success he did and the Fangio defense works against mediocre to bad defenses because eventually those teams are going to do something stupid and you’re going to capitalize on it.

The problem is when you play better offenses if you don’t have personnel that can create turnovers then you’re in for a long day. Currently, the Eagles back seven does not have that personnel to create those turnovers or really prevent sustainable drives (can’t get off the field on third down— some of this is their pass rush was really lousy for huge stretch of the year). Against good or bad teams to be frank. They don’t have those playmakers back there. And their pass rush also regressed a lot which also didn’t help in forcing more bad decisions and mistakes.

I don't mind wearing a KC hat to support his brother.

But does he need to act like a KC super fan in the box?  To me that was a little much and probably for the podcast, knowing cameras would be on Taylor Swift every 5 seconds.

I don't hold any of that against him, I'd only do that if it was the Giants, Cowboys or Redskins.

But in fantasy land where I'm an NFL player on one team and one of my brothers is on another team and I'm in the same position as Kelce (our Kelce), I'd probably do the same thing. Not for the other team but for my brother. Blood comes before any other consideration... unless that Blood wears the uniform of one of the above mentioned teams or is beating my team.

Hurts has to move from running threat to scramble threat.  No more designed running plays, no more RPO, or very limited.  Hopefully Moore is the one who teaches him to move in the pocket rather than always scramble right.  His tendency to bail the pocket has been game planned very well by defenses.   He has to evolve for the offense to succeed.

What's more Philadelphia than Jason Kelce showing some brotherly love?

I hope that Travis returns the favor.

I do think Lamar choked a bit yesterday and was outclassed by the Chiefs. But what happened to the run game? Really surprised Monken pulled an Eagles move and just didn't run it at all. Edwards ran pretty hard when he actually got the ball.
Also, they do need another receiver. Agholor, OBJ, Bateman are basically crap. Andrews is legit but coming off a major injury. Likely is nice.

Watching these games, the Eagles are as far off as we think (at least offensively). on offense i think they’re there. They probably need a different type of running back, but if kelce returns then it comes down to hurts. if hurts can be more like 2022 they have as much talent as any of the teams in the playoff field. Frankly, I think Moore is going to maximize smith, goedert and aj brown more with more motion and under center in the offense

defensively is where they have a personnel problem and the gap is sizable to teams like chiefs, ravens and even niners. I suspect howie is likely going to add 2 players at either a corner, safety, and linebacker in free agency. Then add some in the draft. With fangio and those additions, i don’t think they magically become a top 10 unit. But i do think they’ll be in the top half of the league.

The question that keeps bothering me though is, how are you going to respond to adversity. That is the one thing you can’t change with just adding talent and new coaches. when adversity hit the Eagles this year they packed up and folded. I’m not so sure if that changes next year if they hit adversity. it’s the same person giving the same message. To me we’re gonna find out who the Eagles are when adversity hits next year. Maybe it happens early, maybe happens midseason or maybe happens late but they’re gonna hit adversity at some point and how they respond to it is going to tell us about what type of team they can be and will be.

The new nucleus has to step up and lead.  Hurts, AJ Brown, Smith, Mailata, Davis.  Notice there are no real new leaders on the defense; once Cox and Graham are gone somebody has to fill that void.  It certainly isn't gonna be Slay -- maybe Reddick?  Howie may have to sign an experienced FA to a long term (3-4 year) contract to help in that role.

I like the idea of drafting defense, defense, defense ... but those guys won't be leaders for 2-3 years.

This is likely targeting the Swift fan. Those fans are crazy they'll go anywhere where they think she'd be. Plus... Vegas.

I had the same thought, followed by the thought that I hope Jason returns for one more season so that Travis can return the favor.

Likely was balling. They should have featured double TE and power football. Instead they went big play hunting practically the whole game for no damn reason.

Maybe one day we'll have the league in our pocket.

Lamar chokes in the playoffs.  He's done it his entire career.  2-4 career record in the playoffs, 6 TDs, 6 INTs in the playoffs.  He's also had the #1 seed 2x.

Dak Prescott's brother from anther mother.

The dumb game plan didn't help matters.

I think the Eagles would love to sign jaylon Johnson but I have a feeling he doesn’t make it to the market. And if they do, there’s gonna be a lot of suitors. The reason why I think he’s going to sign a safety and a linebacker in free agency is because I don’t think he wants to rely on rookies or inexperienced players again at those positions. He relied on Blankenship, brown and Dean and all 3 had issues either staying healthy or in performance. I think Howie is going to address those two positions in free agency.

To me, I would be more heavily relying on the draft for defense if we were gonna go to the Kansas City Chiefs route. Where do you draft a whole bunch of young guys and just let them play in 2024. You hope by the end of 2024 They start turning the corner. So that in 2025 you get the jump that the Kansas City Chiefs got from last year to this year. However, we don’t draft particularly well on defense nor develop as well as we should on defense.

That's why I don't get not running the ball. He does need better more consistent receivers as well.

It's not for the non-Swift fans, just like showing her on TV isn't for the non-Swift fans.

I think its pretty interesting how fast the Eagles performed their DC/OC coaching search. It was fast and not a very wide net. Compared to Sirianni who interviewed 12 or so LB coaches and took months to fill the entire coaching staff, it looks pretty obvious who was behind these two hires.
