  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

We have a punt returner. Kick offs barely get returned these days.

I need a punt returner than can do that as a supplementary skill not their only one

If youve read anything about air Coryell which Moore incorporates in to his offense, it seems like a foregone conclusion we will be looking to add more speed to the WR position. Renfrow is not a fit for us regardless of if you think he can become productive again.

So Sirianni keeps his job but they’re basically forcing him to replace all of his assistants. That just seems odd to do in any business.Ā

Have to keep the yes man

We're fine at punt returner. We already have one of the best in the league and he's getting better. That's not high on the list of pre-requisites for a WR for this team. You can have a specialist or two on the roster. I rank getting open, catching the ball, and blocking much higher than return ability for this WR group. Further DBs can also PR/KR it's not limited to WR.

Saw a trade rumor from a crappy website but it said Sweat, 1st rounder and 4th rounder this year for Surtain.Ā  You doing it?

When you bring developmental guys on to the team, ideally they can contribute on ST right away. While they are here, they will get work at and try to be developed for a standard position. Last year at this time fans were scoffing at Covey's punt return ability. As this season progressed we saw him get increased snaps at WR in games. He's being developed as a viable WR depth piece if nothing else. We all know that as soon as a player becomes some kind of key starter, fans will all be like, "we need somebody else to return punts before he gets hurt!!!11!"

Covey is fine. We simply need an offense that does something with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th WRs besides blocking. Covey can easily be utilized like Cole Beasley in an offense that utilizes that type of slot receiver.Ā

I'm surprised Hurts didn't do something like this. With those crap plays I wouldn't have blamed him lol

Hurts just improvised at the line and threw to a triple covered AJ Brown.Ā  So it never came to this šŸ™‚

Definitely not.Ā  Surtain may be far better than Sweat, but we'd still be trading one gaping hole for another...arguably making one worse...AND giving up a 1st in the process.

We have nothing at RDE if not for Sweat.Ā  The weak link of Ringo or Slay is going to be better than whatever they throw at RDE without Sweat.

Yeah, but the Broncos won't. Cap hit signing him will ne an issue as well.

I sure would have like to have seen some WR screens to Covey. Feel they did it once, at the very end of the season. Covey is a top 5 punt returner, a good OC should be able to incorporate him into the offense in some capacity. I'm definitely not against finding someone that can do both, but finding a decent punt returner is harder than finding a 4th/5th receiving option.

Disagree. Sweat isn't something that special and he is going to break down fast. Get the best CB in the league and keep Howie from blowing the picks anyway.

Surtain has 1 year left on his deal.Ā  Unless you think he's a generational island CB and it's worth it just to get him in the building, you have to immediately extend him and pay him market rate, which almost nullifies the draft value you are giving up to acquire him.

Just not worth it. Can only make that type of deal with a QB on a rookie deal.Ā

The Broncos drafted a guy (Surtain) and have gotten 3 years of premium CB play at the cost of an entry level contract at $5M per season for 4 years, with a 5th year team option.Ā  That's the correct way to do it.Ā  The next team Surtain goes to will be paying $20M per season for a decreased level of play -- see Jalen Ramsey -- while giving up multiple draft picks.Ā  That's not the correct way to do it.

Draft a guy.Ā Ā

I would take a risk on him, but cost and playing with concerns on both sides.Ā  He would be an instant on Quez or Zaccheus,

Problem with taking a risk with him is Howie will pay way above market value and then to get us under the cap with him push most of his salary to void years so we are still paying for him long after he busts out.

I'm a homer!

In a heartbeat yes! Sweat is a nice player who gets hot but then also disappears and he's on a fairly big contract. I have not given up on him but I also don't know just how good he can be.

Understood.Ā  But, given Howie's horrific drafting prowess at the CB position... we'd at least be getting a very young CB.Ā  Surtain is only 23, he'll be 24 midseason next year.Ā  Ā And that locks down a priority position moving forward for the next 6 years.Ā  Ā Sweat, on the other hand, is old, even for a 26 year old.Ā  And he literally provided NOTHING for the second half of the season.Ā  Might as well flip him for a stud and look to replace his nothing with a later draft pick.. or cheaper vet.Ā  Given Howie's abilities to draft defense over the years, you have to lean in to the ineptitude (since he'll never be reassigned) and work around the issue.Ā  Trading for a true STUD CB, unlike the trades for Darby and Slay (Slay wasn't the stud that Surtain is when he got here, and his play has tailed off rapidly) is a major coup for Howie.Ā  Ā Of course, its a foregone conclusion to me that Denver would never accept those terms.

When was the last time he got hot?

Not a great backer class , free agents should see some actionĀ

Not that he gets a say with Fangio.Ā

He's also only 23 and there are a ton of busts at CB in the first round.Ā  Sweat going to be looking for big contract also and not sure how his knees will hold up.Ā  Many different ways of looking at things.Ā Ā
