Makes it all the more amazing!

Not that it means anything, but KC got to choose, because they are the home team, and they chose to wear red.   Take it for what its worth.

Also, according to this article... its 16-3 over the last 19 games.   Crazy but true.  Not sure what it means, other than the NFL is largely racist.

I think they probably chose it because the last time they played the 49ers, they wore those red jerseys and won. They are actually 1-1 wearing those jerseys in the Super Bowl.

Curious what Washington does now. I can see them pivoting and throwing a ton of cash at Vrabel or Belichick but I think both would probably pass on that job.

Gave me some flashbacks of Eagles vs Rams in the NFCCG. Wouldn't be shocked to see the Lions back in it again next year.

Would be great if the Birds could play the roll of the ‘02 Bucs.

I would need to know two things if I was gonna be that coach. First, what are we doing at quarterback. Second how are we going about getting that quarterback. I would love to know what the bears are actually doing before committing to that job. I know it’s not realistic. But if I knew the Bears weren’t going to take Caleb Williams, that makes me more interested in it because I would try to either trade up to get him or wait until he falls to me at two.

Returning there would make a lot of sense.

Obviously so much depends on where a draft prospect lands, but I would not be at all surprised if both Maye and Daniels have better NFL careers than Caleb Williams.

Yeah Fletch sounds done. Besides the locker clear out, some of the DTs were talking about him like his leaving was a foregone conclusion.

The financial investment in him last year was ill-advised. Hope they reallocate that money to LB, but it'll probably just go toward paying Devonta or Dickerson.

Question for the board...

Devonta Smith, Landon Dickerson, Josh Sweat, and Haason Reddick have one year left on their deals (ok fine, Devonta has the 5Y option).

They're not keeping all those guys, right? Who goes?

They're keeping all of them. Don't see any of them going. Them planning to keep all them is a big reason they let all those guys go last offseason.

There aren't a lot of details, nor do I know the fine details of NIL, but it sure seems like open season to just outright buy players to come to your school. How is it possible to violate them?

Short term, I think they keep them all. Long term, I can see Reddick going. I think given his age and scheme dependency, there's a reason they just gave him a 3 year deal and seem reluctant to do anything to it.

Sweat first to go in my mind

They have a lot of free agents and guys like Tyron Smith, Gilmore, and a bunch of others are probably gone so they'll need to restock.

Letting DeVonta Smith go would be a monumental mistake. I look at his situation in 3 different ways.

A. They finally solved the WR problem after missing on so many WR in the draft.

B. They traded with Dallas and let them get Micah Parsons.

C. The AJ Brown contract situation could get interesting after 2024 when his contract jumps to $26 million then $41 million. An extension isn't a sure thing and you never know what happens there.

DeVonta Smith needs to be an Eagle for life.

-Dickerson gets an extension.

-Josh Sweat is more a 4-3 DE. I think you listen to offers for him. What could he bring in?

-Reddick is much more a 3-4 fit so keep him and MAYBE extend him but I'm not overpaying for him.

I've seen it suggested in here to try and trade Sweat and Reddick

They’re in better cap shape because they haven’t had to extend Jared Goff, Brown,  decker, Sewell and McNeil who all have their contracts run out after the 2024 season. So unless they’re just gonna let them play out on their contracts, they’re gonna have to pay both those guys along with having a boatload of FAs. They have 30 pending free agents this offseason so they are going to have to replenish their depth and roster (https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2024/01/29/detroit-lions-nfl-free-agents-2024-list/72390494007/). It’s why Campbell said what he did. That roster likely has core together but it’s gonna be a bunch of new players and faces due to the amount of guys that are free and having to give extensions out. It is gonna take up a chunk of that salary cap. That’s why I said when you look at their salary cap you’re like oh man they have a lot of money to spend.

Yeah that's why I said the year after is a different story. They've got space to extend a decent chunk of them now without running into issues, something the packers don't have. Goff's number can even be brought down via an extension and they can also part ways with guys like Tracy Walker or restructure Sutton's deal if they need more short term relief. Having a strong rookie class give you 4 starters allows quite a bit of flexibility that otherwise wouldn't be possible. Of course they likely won't be able to retain everyone, but such is the case across the board for teams when they start to have success like that.

Quote

But then you go look at it more closely have to field a 53 man roster, have just 23 of the guys on the roster under contract for 2024. And 2025 st. Brown, Goff, decker, Sewell, McNeil are all FAs at the end of 2024. That cap is going to be used up and they likely are gonna run into depth issues

Not sure where you're getting this number from, but on the surface it doesn't sound accurate. Just going off of the starters from the Niners game, only Glasgow, Reynolds, and CJGJ are FAs I thought. So if that number actually is accurate, I'd imagine almost every other player of those 23 are marginal contributors that won't really affect their ability to keep the impact players on the team.

I just did. I think having Nolan Smith and Haason Reddick as your OLB is the best solution. An under the radar name who is a really good fit for rush OLB is Patrick Johnson too.

Putting Sweat at OLB is going to put him in situations that ask him to drop. He's just not built for that. I love him as a traditional 4-3 DE. 4-3 DE is one of my favorite positions in football and I wish he had a place. Maybe I'm overthinking the Fangino defense and he's not going to run odd man fronts but from what I've read, that's what hes gonna do.

Maybe Josh Harris could throw money at Doc Rivers to bring him in.

Just trade up from 2 to 1, and then you can have Williams.   Sure, maybe you don't need to... but then again, you don't want someone at 4-10 to try to leap frog you either.   If Williams is your guy, and he's not the Bears' guy... pay a little extra and get him.
