He had 4 INT's in one game last year including two pick 6's.  Granted it was against Northern Illinois.  He had 18 pass deflections this year and 19 last year.

Played one Ranked Team in 2021 (Notre Dame) and had 2 Pass Deflections, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 2 fumble recoveries.

Yeah Fletch sounds done. Besides the locker clear out, some of the DTs were talking about him like his leaving was a foregone conclusion.

The financial investment in him last year was ill-advised. Hope they reallocate that money to LB, but it'll probably just go toward paying Devonta or Dickerson.

No worries... we'll still have a big chunk of money counting against the cap because of that investment in him.  Either $14M dead, or $4M this year, and $10M next year.

Question for the board...

Devonta Smith, Landon Dickerson, Josh Sweat, and Haason Reddick have one year left on their deals (ok fine, Devonta has the 5Y option).

They're not keeping all those guys, right? Who goes?

I only have interest in retaining Smith and Dickerson.   Sweat is older than his age.  And Reddick is reaching that magic number.

Let someone else overpay for the production they will give and take the comp picks.

Trouble is... we have no DEs/Edges left outside of Nolan Smith.  Cupboard would soon be completely bare.

There aren't a lot of details, nor do I know the fine details of NIL, but it sure seems like open season to just outright buy players to come to your school. How is it possible to violate them?

Rules in the NCAA are made to be broken.   So corrupt.

I don't see any way they let both Reddick and Sweat walk. Reddick's cap number at over $21mm needs to come down, and he is likely more valuable to Fangio. I'd expect a 2-3 year extension for him. Sweat is manageable at a $9mm cap number this year and they can let him play it out, see how he fits with Fangio and holds up for another year. If he walks after the year, you can get a comp pick.

You can add Milton Williams to that list

Aren't they 24 mil over the cap?

Yeah that's why I said the year after is a different story. They've got space to extend a decent chunk of them now without running into issues, something the packers don't have. Goff's number can even be brought down via an extension and they can also part ways with guys like Tracy Walker or restructure Sutton's deal if they need more short term relief. Having a strong rookie class give you 4 starters allows quite a bit of flexibility that otherwise wouldn't be possible. Of course they likely won't be able to retain everyone, but such is the case across the board for teams when they start to have success like that.

Not sure where you're getting this number from, but on the surface it doesn't sound accurate. Just going off of the starters from the Niners game, only Glasgow, Reynolds, and CJGJ are FAs I thought. So if that number actually is accurate, I'd imagine almost every other player of those 23 are marginal contributors that won't really affect their ability to keep the impact players on the team.

You are discussing not liking packers depth the lions have next to none heading into FA. also Goff is on a reasonable contract considering he’s at $30 mil which is way below market value is now with how contracts have escalated.  It’s actually a reasonable contract. Not going to be when it jumps 20-30 million per year

Talks about all the FAs they have here:
https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2024/01/29/detroit-lions-nfl-free-agents-2024-list/72390494007/

heres also a list of their FA

IMG_0306.thumb.jpeg.6697abed30edde1d2a69a0cecc688cf0.jpeg

Based off that they have 30 impending FAs according to the free press of Detroit article. They have practice squad and futures contracts but based on the 53 they have it has 30 (34 according to spotrac) most of them that were on the active when you count through it. Add on glasnow being one of them this year. Add on Goff, st. Brown, McNeil, Tracy Walker, penei Sewell and decker all need extensions as they are free agents at the end of 2025. That money they have in cap is going towards keeping a lot of those guys. It’s why i think Campbell said what he did in the locker room. It’s gonna have core guys but a ton of new faces

It doesn't make any sense - 2023 was the year to go all in. They are over the cap, so they need to extend Dak to get cap relief, but that means being tied to a crippling contract for a non-elite QB. They have to sign Lamb and Parsons, and guys like Tyron Smith, Gilmore and Cooks are free agents.

They needed to go "all-in" before Lamb and Parsons got expensive, and they blew it.

Just trade up from 2 to 1, and then you can have Williams.   Sure, maybe you don't need to... but then again, you don't want someone at 4-10 to try to leap frog you either.   If Williams is your guy, and he's not the Bears' guy... pay a little extra and get him.

Why id do it. It’s why i need to know how the bears feel about Williams and their plan. If they want to trade 1 and you love Williams do it. If you don’t love Williams but maye or Daniels then it’s a nice spot cause you can draft your Qb and have cap space and draft picks. Problem for me is i don’t love Maye or Daniels. I love Williams but Chicago might take him or sell to highest bidder

If Reddick is cheap enough, I agree.  Will he be?

But, we're already on the hook for $14M dead on Reddick's deal for 2025 as it stands now.  This is Howie doing Howie things.   Sure, we never have to worry about the salary cap.  We just have to watch the team settle for the likes of Nick Morrow, Zach Cunningham, Kevin Byard, Terrell Edmunds and Justin Evans... because that's all we could afford.   Not that the cap has limited the team in terms of making moves though...

Sweat is $9.7mm in 2025 of dead cap if he walks. Given the scheme fit, I think you try and extend Reddick. If he wants TJ Watt money, then let him walk. But I don't think it will cost that much.

Given Sweat's knee issues, I'm not super high on extending him for another contract.

Yeah, they have to deal with his cap number and contract as well after Jerry punted and insulted him this year.

Is Andrew Van Ginkel an option for us?

I wouldn't be surprised if they try moving him. 24 mil or something like that they need to shed before the league year. Definitely going to cut important pieces of their team

How many QBs said no to the pro bowl for them to get to Minshew?

Add beer chugging to the pro bowl games. Jason Kelce will win every year

If they extend Dak, that solves the cap issues (you can likely drop his cap number by ~$40mm). But it's a terrible long term outcome for the franchise -- they'll be in for close to $60mm AAV on a 30 year old QB that has now proven he can't carry them to the NFC Championship Game. So...I really hope it happens.

Do they plan on keeping the same QB? If so, doesn't matter if they all in.

@HazletonEagle

I watched the "top” RBs and came away mostly unimpressed. If I had to rank them, I’d go…

1. Jonathon Brooks: Unfortunately he tore his ACL, but I think he is the most complete RB. Decent speed, good contact balance, good in the passing game.

2. Trey Benson: Weird that he didn’t get more carries. Good speed, good contact balance. Surprisingly smooth in the passing game, but probably not a guy you want playing on third downs.

3. Braelon Allen if he cuts weight: I’m going to lump Estime in here with him although I prefer Allen. They both need to drop about 10 pounds each. Allen might be a little too upright to make it, but he has good feet and contact balance. Dropping weight to give him more burst or top end speed could make a huge difference. You said Estime looked too slow. I agree. He’s tough, but NFL defenders are gonna be on him too quickly with his lack of burst. He’s kind of like a rich man’s Snell, the old RB from Kentucky. Allen seems more like Blount.

4. Marshon Lloyd: It feels like he’s getting slept on. Looks good as a runner and receiver. Nice burst and contact balance. Kind of reminds me of when Aaron Jones was coming out of UTEP. If you told me neither Allen nor Estime cut weight to add speed, I’d put Lloyd third.
