You can make any excuses you want you don’t finish top 5 consecutive years for the tight end position in receiving yards and receptions just being a stat padder. They had other weapons on that Jacksonville offense that he had to compete with.

I think you’re viewing this like he still the **** player he was with the Giants and not actually what he was with Jacksonville. He is 100% better with Doug that he ever was with the Giants. Ingram’s always had the talent to be a really good receiving tight end. It’s why he went in the first round. Just saying engram since 2020 has finished top 5 in receptions for a tight end 3 times and top 5 receiving yards for a tight end 2 times (would’ve been 3 if not for like 40 yards)

I would draft Engram over Goedert in fantasy football. Goedert is a better real life player than him.

If you say Goedert is over rated,  and your best point of contention is games missed,  that is a cop out.

You may as well agree that he is good and say you wish he was available more.

Games missed doesn't make someone over rated.

For example,  embiid is arguably the best player in basketball. I wish he was available more.

Engram has always had the potential to be a top receiving threat as a tight end. It’s why he was considered a first round pick at the position when he came out. If you want to hold his time with the giants against him then go ahead. But he’s done things in that jags offense that’s made him a better receiving threat than any point in time in the giants. Agree i rather have goedert's blocking  over his. But Engram also stays healthy. He’s missed 2 games in 4 years and hasn’t missed a game in 2 years. Goedert has missed 15 in 4 years. That matters. Add on people in 2022 downplayed engram’s 2022 year and he went out and had a better 2023 season

Availability has to be accounted for. He never said he was bad, just overrated.

And also add that you don’t care at all about blocking.

He can be over rated but that has nothing to do with availability. I don't know of anyone who rates players based on that.  Is only used when desperate for the argument against someone.

He’s overrated from the fan perspective as there were people on this very blog who continuously kept saying oh he’s going to surpass George Kittle and Mark Andrews and be the second best tight and in football once they got rid of Zach Ertz. It never happened. And multiple guys have surpassed him over the last couple years. That’s why people say he’s overrated in the fan’s eyes. Add on he can’t stay healthy as he’s missed 15 games in 4 years.

So Hurts got blown away by Baker Mayfield in the passing competition.  I just saw Hurts performance on Facebook.  Pathetic display of nonexistent QB skills.  Even better were all the ooomphs and groans of the announcers.  Lol.

I guess he will blame his finger.

There aren't many here that are really that gaga over him.

I think you're getting sucked in to the argument by the side on the other extreme who think he's so over rated that we actually have to challenge him for his job.

Which is also a very small minority.

The majority of people are probably in the boat of,  he's pretty good.  Happy with him but wish he stayed healthier. Doesn't need to be replaced but getting to be about time to start thinking about who everyday replaces him.

I am in the boat that this was a big-time discussion that people crap on Zach Ertz for years. And as soon as they traded him, it was like oh Dallas goedert is going to wind up being the second best tight end in the league now that ertz is gone and was going to surpass Andrews and kittle to be behind Kelce. there was a lot of people on here that crapped on ertz and built up goedert to be the next Travis Kelce and kittle.

my issue is I think he’s good. I don’t think he was ever as great as some Eagles fans thought he was going to be.

It wasnt really Kittle and Andrews at the time. It was Kittle and Kelce. And there was one year where Goedert was right there with them.

Now, theres been an influx of talent at the TE position and he is falling lower in the rankings as younger players surpass him. I dont think hes slowed down, theres just more good guys at the position, and he has less opportunity in the current offense.

It depends on how much you value blocking. It doesn’t seem like you do based on including a dude like Engram. Unless you’re just box score scouting. But then that’s double counting injuries against Goedert. He’s a much better player than Engram.

I think the league has moved in a different direction... and so the blocking aspect of the TE position is a much much lower priority.   Yes, it matters, as does WR blocking.  But, that's not the primary focus for a TE and it isn't even a 50-50 split.   This is a pass happy team.  They seem to forget that the running game is a viable option for long stretches of both games and even over the course of a season.  So, yeah, I discount the blocking piece.  Frankly, if I really want a blocker out there, I can bring in an extra OL to be a blocker (that's basically all they used Jack Stoll as this year... might as well used Tyler Steen in that role).

Not box score scouting, but thinking in terms of what a defense has to spend time preparing for.   Teams seem very content to not focus on the running game as much and just focus on the passing game.  And, so the passing impact is much more important.

Andrews was coming on in 2019 and 2020 when we dealt Ertz in 2020. And Gronk was still playing in 2020 and 2021. Andrew’s made a massive jump from 2020 to 2021. The one people thought goedert was going to make but never did. There was definitely opportunity in 2021

I’d argue he was never right there with kelce. Thats BS. Kelce every year from 2018-2022 had put up 1100 yards+, top 5 in tds every year over that span and was top 3 in TE receptions each year. He might have been close to kittle in 2021.

again he’s overrated by fans cause there was a time that people on the blog crapped ertz and built up goedert that he was the future of the tight end position and would develop into second best behind Kelce. He never did it whatever excuses we want to apply

I wasn't even referring to the Blog specifically, just Eagles fans everywhere. They put Goedert on a pedestal similar to AJ Brown, which he's just not. He's a fine player, and does things that go unnoticed to a casual eye. But he's not elite and not some revolutionary offensive skill player. He reminds me a lot of early Ertz when every year everyone is saying this is going to be his breakout year, and then he just doesn't make that jump.

I would have these guys ahead of him for sure

kelce, kittle, andrews, hockenson, Laporta, engram (people overlook engram but his last two years in Jacksonville he’s been good)

debatable guys

Mcbride, Ferguson, njoku, Pitts (i actually think getting away from Arthur smith helps his case).

njoku had a better 2023 then goedert but goedert the previous 3 years was better. I think they’d be in the same category for me. Njoku in his career has also had some injury seasons

A lot of folks remember him with the Giants and think that's what he is now.   Doug has been using him very effectively in Jax.

Look what Kellen Moore could do with an average talent like Schultz, who didn’t really beat man coverage but could destroy zones because of the scheme and his feel (plus Dak loves throwing to the TE). Prime Goedert, who was a top three TE in terms of yards per route run) would have crushed in that scheme. He’s third in the pecking order now and doesn’t play with a great pocket passer so he won’t put up monster stats, but his job should be pretty easy now.

I hope to see that.

Being injury prone is absolutely a knock against a guy.     And that includes Embiid.   If you know you can't count on a guy, that lowers what you can afford to pay him, how you build your depth around him, etc.    It has to be a part of any evaluation.    Meanwhile, the Eagles have put exactly ZERO behind Goedert, despite him getting hurt and missing games as a matter of course for his career.  That's on them.    And now that he's fast approaching 30, and has been injury prone in his younger years, it makes him more likely to miss even more games moving forward.   This team needs a back up plan.   And it isn't Jack Stoll or even Albert O.

He’s never made the jump. 2021 was the closest he’s made to it. That was the one year he finished top 5 in tight end receiving yards and it was basically him and smith in the passing game. The thing that bothers me with Eagles fans is the amount of people that just crapped on Zach ertz and built goedert up like he was definitely going to be the next big tight end in the league and become the second best behind kelce. And I don’t think Zach Ertz was even close to Gronk or Kelce either. But I’d argue he got more crap from the fan base (Twitter, radio and some on here) and accomplished more than goedert has.

I overrate Dallas Goedert.  Fight me.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t think Evan engram is some generational talent at tight end. But like you said, there’s way too many people that view engram for what he was with the giants and not how he’s played the last two years. One of the things Doug has done well down there is maximize engram’s talent.  Since 2016 only tight ends finish top 5 receiving yards and receptions at that position two years in a row: kelce (every time), kittle (multiple times) ertz (multiple times), andrews, hockenson, Waller and engram.
