Getting the ball out quicker is highly dependent on the play call/design (i.e. route combos, whether progression is long to short vs short to long, protection calls, etc). If we're going empty on 3rd and 7 without a receiver turning their head before their 5th step, the ball isn't gonna come out as quick as if we kept Goedert in to block on an RPO with Brown on a slant, and Smitty on a dig.

We can default to blaming coaching all you want, but at some point $255M has to come with some expectations.  Hurts regressed in 2023 and needs to be better.

That's true.  But having a QB coach who literally started coaching in 2021 and a bad play caller and game planner certainly stacks the odds against.

And Hurts is still growing and learning as a QB, he wasn't a finished product nor all that close. He was let down big time with the growing process.

Yep the Tanney thing was under the radar but he retired as a player in 2021 and spent one year as an assistant Qb coach.  When you invest 250mil maybe put some better resources there to support

The front office never seem to take blame, it's always everyone else.

They’re on the verge of being on their third head coach in six years if next season turns sour. Paying two QBs mega deals with potentially both flaming out if it turns out that the coaching wasn’t the issue with Hurts, and it was indeed him just falling off. I think Roseman has been a net positive for this team, but there aren’t a lot of GMs in the league who get that kind of leash.

Good for him, lol.

Not paying Hurts was never an option why do we still talk about it? Had we not 10 other teams would have and laughed and we would be dumpster diving for QBs like Vikings Falcons Skins Giants Raiders etc

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Even you haters still have to admit worst case he is top 10

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone famiilar enough with how offenses operate that wouldn't agree blame lies with both the QB and with coaching. There's a reason why Sirianni was almost fired, and almost everyone else associated with the offensive staff was sent packing.

I think Hurts will be fine and he'll play out his contract with the Eagles.  The main issue will be the Eagles paying elite QB money and needing elite (top eight) QB play.  Hurts already showed in 2022 he can provide that, but NFL defenses have adjusted to slow down what he does best and he needs to improve to stay ahead of that curve.

It's unlikely a realistic expectation for him to be an MVP candidate every season.  Top 8 out of 32 starting QBs is what's needed, though.  He's also got to win with his arm consistently as his body is showing signs it will degenerate taking NFL punishment.  First it was a bad ankle in 2021, then a bad shoulder in 2022, then a bad knee in 2023.  The data is already there that his body won't hold up to the pounding consistently.

That can't be real, Purdy doesn't strike me as the type of guy who would talk ish like that a week before the biggest game of his life.

Sure.  But that often wasn't the case.

The option would have been not paying him a year early.

I'd bet you can find plenty of examples of both cases.

The argument for getting Hurts signed early was a slight cost savings.  Hurts signed for $51M AAV while Herbert got $52.5M and Burrow got $55M.  Not sure how crucial that was in the grand scheme, but there is an annual savings of about $3M, give or take.  The assertion the Eagles would have been "dumpster diving" at QB seems kind of absurd when Hurts himself was selected with the 53rd overall pick.  Kevin Kolb is the only recent high draft pick the Eagles spent at QB who busted; as an organization they've been pretty astute in selecting McNabb, Foles, Wentz, and Hurts.

I suspect he will be the LB coach.

I agree tho he interviewed for Giants DC so maybe he'll go there as LB coach

Could have waited a year…

Wonder how this impacts them at the deadline. Sounds like it could be 4 weeks until he’s officially ruled out the remainder - or miraculously (and stupidly) rushed back

This back channel beef with Ben Johnson and Washington has burned any future bridges of a potential coaching job in that relationship lol. Commies doing their best to try and make this guy look like a total POS.

Gotta think if 2024 sucks for the Eagles and Sirianni is gone, might be a little extra incentive for Ben Johnson to pick the Eagles if Lurie pursues him considering he'll get a chance to stick it to the Commies twice a year.

If he had the type of surgery were 4 weeks is possible then they won't rule him out.  Timeline is 4-8 weeks.  4 weeks is very optimistic.  Typical time 6-8 with 4 being a best case

If Eagles change coaches next year I'd bet Lurie goes with Mike Kafka

They could reevaluate in a month and weigh opportunity cost of rushing him back vs letting him sit. If there’s any shot they rush him back then they will certainly need to add a player before the deadline to keep them afloat. They’re in a tough spot.
