4th last year in total touchdowns

4th this year in total touchdowns

Total is irrelevant and is a willful attempt to skew the data

Does it matter? Would you be happier if he had 1 yard TD passes instead of runs with less success? How many times did we see his WRs come up 1 yard short of a TD this year. Smitty had a number of those.

Yes. It absolutely matters

On the contrary. Your point acts as if rushing touchdowns aren’t scored the same as passing touchdowns. They’re both 6 points and the ultimate goal of an offense in football at any level.

Haters will move the goal post however they can. Sorry we have a QB who leads the league in short yardage efficiency and don’t need to throw the ball on the 1 yard line lol. Wonder how the offense gets to the position where we can even run that play… sure as hell isn’t the defense creating turnovers or amazing field position. Definitely wasn’t the receivers throwing to themselves. Couldn’t have been the running backs that we neglected game after game.

Ok... tell the new coordinator to do shovel passes at the 1 to make you happy

Lazy morons call people haters

Not particularly, quite a change in responsibilities. At best I'd say at its about the same level.

The whole pass game coordinator is a relatively new concept - its just a way for teams to add another mind on the staff that can help with game planning, designing plays and anything else the rest of the staff wants to offload. Also help with succession. Its a promotion but similar role to what Tanney was doing last year and was clearly rated by the coahcing staff leading to him being named QB coach.

QB coach at least historically (and probably still is) the second most important position on the offensive staff. Working daily with the most important position. Holding them accountable, correcting flaws etc... Given Hurts regression in the year and certain repeated issues which never got corrected (bailing out of pocket too early), I am not sure he was quite ready for that role just yet. He is a young coach but clearly has a mind that is respected by others who have worked with him.

Isn't he the UCLA HC?

Slay isn't going anywhere in 2024. Bradberry hopefully is a post June 1 cut.

I don't see them breaking the bank at corner -- Ringo will get a chance to win that job. Maybe a draft pick for competition along with Ricks. I'm more interested to see what they do at safety -- with Parker coming over, do they look for a veteran safety like Simmons to be a cap casualty in Denver. They struck gold with Jenkins when they went the veteran route in the past.

Yeah, that's sensible.  Slay makes me nervous because he's getting up there in years.  Bradberry really hit the wall, he needs to go.  Ringo should get a shot to win the job.  I'd love to sign a shutdown corner, but I'm afraid we'll end up with another Nnamdi Asmugha.

I agree with you on this. But your argument isn't great either - total TDs by Hurts isn't the gotcha stat you think it is. Both are obvious attempts to skew data one way or another.

Of course, a QB who is super effective in short yardage and therefore gets all the goal-line rushing attempts will have more total TDs than another who hands the ball off in those situations and has his RBs get most of those TDs. And of course that QB will have less passing TDs because the go to play for that team is to sneak rather than be more varied near the goal line.

Josh Allen has averages ~5TDs a year more than Mahomes (last five years) precisely for that reason. So what?

Not to interject into this conversation but just in general I’ve been asking for the eagles to run a shovel pass with aj brown and Dallas goedert for about a year and a half now. Not taking away from hurts tush push just in general i think it would be effective with personnel they have. Granted with the eagles coaching they’d likely try to run it with quez

He’s wanted out of UCLA from what was rumored during the season. He and many thought he was gonna get fired at the end of the year but ucla didn’t. But supposedly he really hates the NIL and what the college game is moving towards and ucla has a less than stellar NIL compared to a lot of other programs especially in the big 10.

Just weird that Solak referred to him as the Oregon HC when he hasn't been that in years and he's currently the HC at UCLA. Not even former Oregon HC

I’m not trying to be a "gotcha” guy. I’m just stating a fact. Jalen has put this team on his back in any situation they need him to. 5 more TDs than Mahomes "so what”? That’s pretty good. He’ll be in Buffalo for a very long time, and at this rate will probably be a Hall of Fame QB if he keeps it up.

You know it is the dark times in Philly when people nitpick how their team’s QB is getting the ball in the endzone.

I think there’s about 500 simple things this team could do to help themselves. Last year they refused to do any of them lol. Having AJ as a threat to get the ball in as many positions as possible would be so fun to watch. He’s a much better Receiver than Deebo, and is bigger/stronger than 99% of receivers in the league.

Him, Swift, and Smitty should’ve constantly been in different positions and different motions all season.

they grossly misused swift this year. Mentioned this during this season. From the Buffalo game onward gainwell had 16 receptions to swift’s 10. Targets were 20 to 15. Which is freaking ridiculous considering swift is a way more dynamic receiver out of the backfield. His best ability is as a receiver in space. We rarely used him in that type of role.

like you said with aj brown, he’s a better overall wr than Deebo and we really didn’t maximize his size, strength and just overall talent. What excites me with Moore is his use of motion so i tend to think smith is going to gave his best year yet (assuming he stays healthy).

They just don’t get creative and they didn’t put an offense together that allowed their best players to thrive. Brown had a career year only because of the first half of the year. Goedert had a down year. There was no reliable and consistent use of a WR 3. They didn’t maximise what they had with Swift. It was such a bad job by Sirianni and by Johnson.
