Hurts was top 10, but not top 5, this year. So if your bar is Mahomes/Allen, then yes you'll be disappointed.

Hurts was definitely not top 10 by any objective measure:

Passing yards -- 14th

Completion % -- 15th

TD passes -- 13th

INT -- 3rd highest

Rating -- 20th

QBR -- 13th

Time to Throw -- bottom 5

People need to recognize what Hurts actually was this past season -- very, very average.  The organization invested top-tier QB salary in Hurts for the next 5 years; he has to be top 8 in all facets or he's simply not worth the investment.  The bar is an elite QB for elite QB investment; he's got to be top quartile and he simply wasn't this past season.

Hurts couldn’t have been that bad he started the pro bowl so worst case he was good that and the 40 tds, somebody has to get us down together 1 to even push.
He also had a some quality wins like Buffalo and KC

KC, Buffalo, Dallas, Healthy Vikings, Buccs, and Rams with Kupp. We had awful losses to the Giants, Jets, Cardinals, and Seahawks.

The Jets defense is pretty good, and completely tore us to shreds, Hurts and the offense had an awful game. Including a Goedert drop for an INT and a deflected INT I believe, among bad throw to lose the game into double coverage by Hurts.

The Seahawks always play us tough, but the defense we ran down the stretch completely killed us. Especially Bradbury with no help over the top with less than a minute left lol.

Cardinals our defense was Swiss cheese and literally had no interest in tackling or being near practice squad receivers.

The Giants game we should’ve sat our starters and used them like a bye week. Ended up losing our most talented offensive player and our most energetic defensive player because we didn’t, which just puts the stamp on the season.

I tend to think we’ll be closer to the 10-1 team we looked like at times, but man something sinister happened to this team for the last part of the season. There wasn’t 1 player (maybe Smitty) who looked like they were comfortable or improved year over year. Everyone was lost and out of sync. I can’t blame Jalen for that.

Bad idea. If I had to choose between going all in or selling(both extremes) I'd much rather sell. It's not going to happen this season, they need to come to terms with that. And frankly, this feels ownership forced, because there's no way Morey came into this season thinking contending was a legit possibility. They bargain shopped all summer and only signed one year deals. They clearly were trying to toe the line between being competitive, but keeping their opportunities open for summer 2024 with all their cap room and tradable picks opening up. Now suddenly when their best player is possibly out for the season, now they want to go all in.

If they give up any first rounders they're absolute morons. Would be a total waste to try to win in a lost season.

When you watch the games where do you see the team as a whole being put in positive positions?

Yup.   And the admission that their thinking is that they only needed to get 9 yards rather than 10 yards for a first down just highlights the issues, and illuminates one of their greatest drop offs from last year to this past one... the red zone.   They weren't trying to score TDs, they were trying to set up a Tush Push opportunity.   They really were playing with one hand tied behind their back.   It was touted as a great weapon... and it is... BUT, if the only tool you own is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.

The Tush Push LIMITED the offense, because of how reliant they were on it.  Their goal was to get into situations to use it, rather than run a proper offense.

Yup, when it came out that they believed they only needed to get 9 yards in 3 plays it really explained a lot. God I hated this team this season, and it was mostly the coaching staff's fault.

I’m not trying to be a "gotcha” guy. I’m just stating a fact. Jalen has put this team on his back in any situation they need him to. 5 more TDs than Mahomes "so what”? That’s pretty good. He’ll be in Buffalo for a very long time, and at this rate will probably be a Hall of Fame QB if he keeps it up.

You know it is the dark times in Philly when people nitpick how their team’s QB is getting the ball in the endzone.

thats opinion not fact

the how matters alot when you look at the sustainability of an approach

The Eagles are going to have new coaches, and better personnel on defense in 2024. I think Kellen Moore is a good OC and going to incorporate a lot of things we haven’t done or done minimally since sirianni has gotten here. The defense should be better with fangio and upgraded personnel.

so I looked at it this way, Jalen hurts in 2023 was not close to 2022 Jalen hurts. He wasn’t awful either. But I’d argue he was somewhere in between 2022 and 2021. There was a lot of factors besides just himself for that. But 2024 i think is a huge year for hurts and the eagles. If hurts winds up looking like 2022 or close then moving forward the eagles are going to be consistently in the mix to win the nfc and play for super bowls. However if the hurts plays more closely to 2023 and 2021 then it would be 3 out of 4 years he’s not been as great and consistent in what we saw in 2022. Is that good enough to win a SB? That’s up for discussion.

to me the reality is 2024 is a massive year for hurts and the eagles. If hurts is closer to 2022 or even better than course moving forward is pretty simple. If he’s not then i don’t think howie and lurie just chalk it up to everything else around him. Nor having some internal discussions. I think he’s back regardless for 2025 and tbh its likely that sirianni is gone if hurts is not up to the 2022 standard.

I think I hate Deebo more than any other NFL player

Hey everyone, on Sunday for the game, we're going to move the ATNFL Super Bowl game day thread over here to TATE during the game so that everyone will use it to talk about the game rather than filling up the Blog thread and slowing it down.

So on Sunday, everyone please use that thread for the Super Bowl Game discussions.

Why not just tell people to use ATNFL. The way the blog thread gets used we could just remove a bunch of subforums because everything gets placed here

Smoking pot before games is heartbreaking??  I wish someone had told me that when I was playing hockey; I should have been sobbing in the locker room, given how many guys on my team were toking up.

Right, pot has medical uses for pain.  I'm sure there are guys shooting up with a lot stronger and more damaging stuff than that to deal with the pain of playing football

Yeah heartbreaking wasn’t the word I’d have used. But still the fact he smoked before games and never got busted is amazing when you hear the stories of guys after games getting randomly drug tested (granted who knows everything they tested for in those drug tests)

Not quoting your post, but I get all your points about Hurts being average this last season.  The eyeball test suggests that a lot of that had to do with the blitz -- is that Hurts fault?  Offensive coordinator?  Receivers?  I suspect the answer is a little of everyone's fault.

Hate him or like him, Deebo is the key player in the SB this weekend.  The 49ers must get Deebo involved in a big way to have a chance to defeat the Chiefs.

Look forward to see how Hargrave perform in the SB.  He was good for us and is going to SB 2 seasons in a row.  The 49ers need to apply constant pressure on Mahomes to beat the Chiefs.

The only test for pot once a year on 4/20 (not kidding). You don't get retested unless you fail on that one day.

Lol of course that would be the only day they’d test.

You're definitely correct it's all of the above.
