  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Frankly i wanted after 2020 a complete tear down of the defense. Meaning moving on from some older guys (keeping one or two to be mentors) and getting whatever they could for them. And doing what the chiefs essentially did in 2021 and 2022 by having jones and surrounding him with young talent then adding a piece here and there as the defense was closer to being completely rebuilt. Unfortunately we really didn’t go that direction and it’s frankly why our defense has this high peaks and low valleys in a short period of time.

I agree.  There was time for a complete tear down and rebuild.  When they decided to move on from Wentz, from Doug, etc.  That was the time to strip it down to the studs and deal with some bad contracts.  Oh well... that time might be coming very soon, once Kelce, Graham, Cox and Johnson are off the books, but they need to stop adding bad contracts to old players, like Slay and Bradberry.

That’s been the question I’ve continuously asked. Nolan smith isn’t ready and who knows. He has had durability concerns and didn’t show as much as we would’ve liked as a rookie. Who knows who makes it to FA to replace him. I think it’s really hard to find a top tier pass rusher in the league. I expect it’s going to be difficult to replace particularly in 2024

Tbh i rather trade sweat than Reddick.  I tend to think sweat doesn’t age well and he’s more likely going to be on a poorer contract next time. If the eagles, lurie and howie didn’t believe this was their SB window I’d actually say tear a lot of it down and keep the young players and stockpile picks and use it to build up the defense. But i know they don’t want to use this year to do that and believe they can compete and win a Super Bowl. I think long term on defense they’d be better off going with the tear and stockpiling picks for guys like Reddick, sweat, slay (not sure you get much).

I agree with you on the idea of Sweat vs. Reddick.  BUT, there's a reason there's the request by Reddick to seek a trade and not Sweat.   Reddick wants a new deal, because he IS the better player, and he HAS the longer stretch left in him.   Sweat was pretty awful this past year, and will offer very little in trade, especially because of his knees.   Ideally, I don't think the Eagles really want to trade either one, but more than that, I think they don't want to spend more money on Reddick.   They might finally have learned that they need to stop investing top dollar in players that aren't likely to perform at top level.

😂💀

Crazy game for Moody. Being a kicker and a rookie under the bright lights of the Super Bowl is a lot, but he nailed two 50+ FG's....

Only to have an XP blocked which in the end was one of the things that happened that cost them a SB victory.

   Why do people pick on Purdy so much?

It's not HIS fault.     If he was trash talking like Deebo, etc. then by all means, unleash the hounds on him.  But, he seems like a genuinely decent fella.   Let's let him be and let the 49ers spend way too much resigning him in a year.

My favorite part of the Purdy discourse is 95 percent of the people with an opinion on him say he’s overrated by most.

Butterfly effect though.   Who knows how Andy plays that drive to tie the game if he's down 4 rather than 3?   That missed XP might be the only reason they got to OT and not have Andy beat them in regulation.  After all, they had a shot at the win as it was with 0:06 seconds left... and a timeout.  They had at least one more shot at the end zone, and maybe that's when Andy unveils his 'corndog' play or whatever other thing he might have had.

I feel bad for the kid, but this game wasn't on him.  It was on Shamahan.

Who the hell is still getting the vax at this point? First two or three rounds? OK. Still??? That crap seems to have more issues than getting sick at this point. The last one felt like an ice pick was going through my eye at night. Screw that again.

Just curious, but what’s the difference in sensation between an ice pick going through your eye at night vs an ice pick going through your eye in the day time?

Never saw this one coming.

I just want to see a more disciplined rush this next year. How many times did we see the ends fly by or pushed past the QB which led to them being able to step up or run towards the sidelines for big gains of yards.

Dream about having one?

I still don't understand the scheme. Typically when you have zone concepts this doesn't happen a ton. I guess this happened mostly when they were in man?

They're paying him like $10 an hr. About what I'd expect :)

Ace Nova may be Howard Eskin.

Wouldn’t that mean everyone was a dope or a nitwit?

Gross-Matos would be an interesting addition as a possible Reddick replacement.

I think he had 5 sacks in a limited role. Hes a guy who can break out.

Wouldnt mind drafting Chop Robinson if we are looking for a direct replacement of that role.

But if we are trading Reddick, I cant help but think its because we want a more traditional DE, or a more traditional LB. Because you wont get a better tweener 3-4 rush OLB than Reddick and it just doesnt make sense to trade him in that case.

Kapadia and Berman both think Sweat would get more in trade compensation than Reddick, even though they acknowledge Reddick is the better player. Wulf doesn't agree.

It's an interesting hypothetical. I think I lean agreeing with Bo that Reddick would get more in return. It's pretty hard to get an idea on what a realistic Sweat package would look like. I'd guess a 3rd is the best you could get.

Yeah I don't either just know it happened a lot and then the opposing QB would take off for a 15+ yard run

Meh it's low hanging fruit. He's a Kirk Cousins level dweeb who looks like he thinks milk is too spicy, but gets propped up aggressively by sports media outlets because of the Mr Irrelevant thing.

None of which is his fault, but makes for excellent memes.

Cap guys, help me out. Kelce signed through next year, correct? If he doesn't retire they don't have to bring him back, he's just back no? Spotrac says he signed a 1-year deal last year but their graph shows that he has a deal for 2024 just with a potential out this non-playing season. Which is it?

They have to go get Brian Burns in FA. I feel that's the only way they move Reddick. Their obsession with the lines won't allow them to let their best pass rusher walk without a plan in place

Tough call. Reddick was available in free agency a couple years ago and there wasn't a ton of interest from the league. And it wasn't like he was coming off a 5 sack season. He started to emerge with Carolina as an explosive rusher. Now he went on to be dominant last season, but I wonder if a lesser season in 2023 will trigger confirmation bias to GMs who passed on him originally. Even if it was pretty apparent the sack numbers were due to a broken hand and the defense in general collapsing.

I think they would probably fetch about the same.
