Different fields are awesome, except when Houston had a hill and a damn pole in centerfield. That was preposterous.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

I’m passing on Simmons. He’s Denver’s Reddick, a guy who’s 30 on the last year of his deal and wants one last mega deal. Plus you probably have to trade one of your 2’s to get him. That’s too much.

I’m not big on Jackson either but he played under Fangio too and can relay the message at a fraction of the cost and not hinder future years. Ideally they just go younger at the position.

That makes sense, he is similar to Reddick contract wise but also similar in play, which is still very good. Jackson may be a fraction of the cost but with that comes a fraction of his play. I do not want a player who dropped off and expect them to now return to glory. I'd rather go a different route. I am also out on Simmons if the cost is a 2nd rounder. May as well identify a quality FA coming off their rookie contract that can grow here and be a linch pin in the back 7.

It's equally on Nike too. Fanatics is just manufacturing the Nike design. It's garbage all around. I just wonder if there will be enough pushback from this that changes are made sooner than later.

What's scary is that Fanatics is taking over the NHL contract next year as the manufacturer and designer. It could get ugly for the NHL, although Adidas hasn't done the NHL any favors with their terrible textures.

If any fanbase is gonna cause the stir that’s needed it the hockey fans.  Jersey designs have a lot of tradition in every sport…but hockey is on a different level.

Random thought. Signing Curtis Samuel could be an interesting, under the radar move that could add a spark to the offense.

I was a fan of his coming out of Ohio St. and he blazed the 40 at the combine. I actually thought he would have found more success in the NFL. He could be a unique piece out of the slot and backfield so I would be fine there. This draft is loaded with quality WR's too, I do think we should be watching them closely on day 2 whether Samuel is signed or not.

I love your confidence in Hurts but right now we can’t have him at #2. He’s just about top 10 off the back of last year. If you put in his 2022 season sure that puts him up but then you need to add his first full season as a starter which puts him back down.

His first full season when he took a team to the playoffs that had won 4 games the previous year?

Not much love at all in "smashing," sir.

Also, "pause" is used when a comment can be misconstrued as an advance for a homosexual encounter. For example...

Guy: Jeff really plugged those holes good -

Other guy: Pause

You're welcome.

Huh?

Different fields (terrain) are not the same as different rules. The fields in baseball, soccer, football, tennis, etc. are different but the rules are the same. Even hockey plays outdoor games with very different ice than indoors.

Basketball is really the only major sport that doesn't do it differently. They should, but that's a different discussion.

Without question that is ridiculous. How do you keep accurate stats and records when all of the fields are different? So weird.

Grass vs turf is way different than baseball.

I was referring more to the dimensions of the fields. They can do whatever they want with the actual field itself but the measurements should all be the same, like every other sport.

In football you run 100 yards its a TD on any field. NBA 23'9'' is 3 points on any court.

In baseball you can hit a 400' bomb and its not a home run in some stadiums. Stupid.

hey wait! I just came up with a new football field design with fancy shaped end zones!

Yankee Stadium, the old Yankee Stadium, had three (3) monuments in center field.

NBA should have one half of the court with a 20' high rim like Rock N Jock.

Even in soccer and hockey, they play with different field/ice sizes.

I'm not a soccer expert but I'm pretty sure their field dimensions are all the same. All 32 NHL teams also have the same rink dimensions- 200 x 85. Maybe you're thinking about international hockey where their rink size is wider- 197 x 98.4.

As far as I know, the only time a hockey rink changes is for the Olympics? It could be different in some of the European leagues but no idea.

Yeah, those rinks have wider dimensions.

DH has made the game better. There's still not enough offense in baseball

Agreed. Pitchers suck at hitting.

Astrodome where they would turn on the hanging AC units when other teams sluggers hit.  Outfield seats were $1.50. We’d take our gloves to catch HRs but those were few and far between. Different day and time.  A parent would drop us at the gate entrance and we would walk to the stadium, buy our tickets, watch the game and at the seven inning stretch use the pay phone to call whichever parent was picking us up.

Astrodome was located off of S. Main which is where the streetwalkers displayed their wares.   There is a country song where the singer talks about having a view of the empty Astrodome from his hotel room, which always gave me a chuckle because the "hotels” on S. Main rented by the hour.  (He also sings about red dirt on his boots.  In Houston, the dirt is black "gumbo”.)

He wasn’t particularly special that year though. He was up and down.

That’s putting it nicely. The team was ready to trade for Watson or Wilson after that year.

I'm not against the strategy of baseball, but there are simply not enough position players in the regular season to make that interesting.

Again, I'll disagree.   There are too many pitchers, because they overthrow rather than know HOW to throw.   So, they just throw as hard as they can, and then they have to come out.   If you had fewer pitchers, you'd have more position players and that would make it more interesting.

216 IP was the most thrown this past season.  Go back 30 years...  30 pitchers exceeded that mark.

If we just look at 200 IP as a 'round' figure, there were 52 that threw 200 or more innings in 1993.
In 2023, there were just 5.

180 IP:
1993 - 68
2023 - only 25.

Complete games:
2023, only 25 pitchers threw a CG, and only 35 total games.
1993, 129 pitchers threw a CG, and I'm not going to do the math for how many total there were, but the top 3 pitchers in CG, threw 35 combined (Chuck Finley - 13, Kevin Brown - 12, and Randy Johnson/Jack McDowell - 10.)

The game has gotten more about the long ball and hitting triple digits on the radar gun than it has 'strategy'.  The 'strategy' is nearly gone.   Set your line up and forget it.   Change the pitcher whenever he gets tired.  And he will quickly, because he's just throwing gas constantly.

To an extent they are, but some grounds over here and are 80+ years old, or built on a tight site, so you do get some variety.  Teams have to, I think, maintain a low standard, but have the ability to mark the pitch as they see fit - but they cannot change it game by game.
