I too thought the Eagles were stacked, but results matter.  The two SB seasons were fueled by two young QBs having amazing seasons and likely covering the warts.  I know we have talented players, but I have to consider they aren't as good as I think because their record says they aren't.  It's a bummer.  If they only look good when their QB is MVP level, then I don't think the talent is as good as I thought.

Merely my opinion.  It's a fun conversation because there are so many angles and factors to be considered that can lead to multiple conclusions.  Mine is results matter and the results say a mediocre team boosted 2x in the past 8 years by phenomenal QB play.

That argument just doesn't make any sense. Hypothetically, in your argument, if an offense is top 3 scoring 30PPG but the defense is bottom 5 and giving up 35PPG with the team going 8-9, you would be saying the offense is mediocre.

He isn't a good enough QB to win a SB. He is a one read gimmick with a ton of weapons and a very good OL. He struggles with situational awareness and plays hero ball.

Except that's not true

It seems like AJ Brown really doesn't enjoy playing in this city.

Gonna be a good day!

Haha wut? I'd be really curious to know what you thought of his play in the actual Superbowl. Let me guess the only thing you will mention is the fumble 😂

Would seem as though Hurts at least put in the work to get beyond his first read.

With that said, the offense was considerably worse and he had more turnovers than almost everyone.

We'll have to see where it goes moving forward, but he and the offense were much better at one read. Kinda confirms the "struggles beyond his first read" argument.

It's also a huge, huge indictment on the play calling as a whole.

Be able to have a high percentage on first read means that you're either really good pre-snap (Brady) or play in a pre-determined offense (Shanahan tree). That's actually a good sign for Jalen because he's strong pre-snap.

Hurts played amazing in the Super Bowl. The defense gave up 2 WIDE OPEN touchdowns. Hurts had the fumble that turned into 6, yes that sucked. Other than that, he played great. The team lost by only 3 points to a team that is the current NFL dynasty with a legendary head coach and the best QB in the league. Hurts would have easily been MVP had they won. To say he can't win a SB is absolutely ridiculous.

He literally had a better passer rating than Mahomes did in both of his SB wins against the Niners, but some fans can't help but get locked into their preconceived notions.

That's probably a scheme thing, with the RPO, you have to hit your first read or your OL will be called for being downfield. The drastic change suggests Johnson was trying to move to a more conventional offense. Look at Tom Brady's numbers in 2021/2022, you telling me he can't read a defense? Probably influenced by routes and receivers, if you're first read is consistently open, you're not going to a second read.

2017: SB win

2019: Wild-card L
2020: Disaster
2021: Wild-card L
2022: SB loss
2023: Wild-card L

That's honestly a great stretch over the past 7 years. Other than the Chiefs, no one has been clearly better. We did that with multiple QBs and coaching staffs, so you have to give a lot of credit to the front office.

People have ridiculous expectations, KC has a HOF QB and a HOF HC. No point comparing Eagles to them. Compared to the rest of the NFL (30 other teams) who has done better since Howie returned from exile?

Eskin claims the whole Carton thing stems from Cox approaching Hurts and telling him he needs to connect more and be more emotional on the sidelines and be apart of the team. It wasn't yelling or arguing but Cox talks sternly and wasn't happy.

The way some folks on here talk, I'm surprised the Eagles are allowing Sirianni to attend the Combine.  Maybe he's there to carry luggage?

So, it wasn't Howie smashing Cox's girlfriend .... but Hurts?

Talk about a twist! Karma caught up to Cox

Sounds like a title that Boy George could use on a comeback album.

In other news, Caplan is claiming the contract given to Okwara is worth $1.3M up to $2.6M and half of it is fully guaranteed. If that’s true, that seems pretty silly to give a guy who was on a PS that the Lions didn’t even bother offering a futures contract.

That’s Boston Scott level money.  Not really much more guaranteed than Scott or the S/LBs they brought in last year.  Given that the DEs under contract are Sweat and Future Contracts, Tarron Jackson and Terrell Lewis, I can’t see any concern. Frankly, I like that Howie is taking a chance on these players.  Didn’t pan out at S last year but if one sticks, even as a reliable backup/rotational/ST player, the gamble might be worth it.

It could be.

I tend to believe it's a mixture of both and think that's a fair assessment. The biggest issue seems to be the scheme, though.

Time to cut him from the team.

Howie lets him run the stopwatch.

Ha! I bet you can't even name 3 Boy George songs.

I disagree.  Hurts was mediocre, line was mediocre, RBs mediocre, TEs mediocre, coaching mediocre, WRs excellent.   Don't lose like the Eagles did and talk about stacked anything.

They fielded a 5’8” slot, and X and Y receivers at 6’1” and 6’ last year and Hurts lost the middle of the field.  They ran complicated routes that took too long for a QB with a slow trigger, relying on the routes to create separation and way underutilized motion to do that.  They brought in an OC that does a good job of motion and utilizing the middle of the field.  Look at the WRs they brought in to future contracts.  Herbert is the shortest at 6’1” but he is 239 (sounds like an HBack to me) but the rest are 6’3” or 6’5”.  That’s why I think the Eagles will draft a big WR for the slot. (That’s why I like Brenden Rice at 6’3”.)  I don’t think Hurts is mediocre, I think they failed to tweak 2022’s offense and realized that was a mistake. I don’t think they are mediocre, they don’t have depth and that’s Howie’s job to fix.  He has a decent start getting some other teams’ draft choice/future targets.  I am sure he has offers to players they would like to retain, Swift, probably Lovato, possibly Mann, possibly Opeta.  (Some will be like what he did with Reddick, test the market but here is our initial offer.)

If all you add are gambles... then you are gambling far too much.   Buying a lottery ticket on a lark isn't a bad thing.    Buying lottery tickets as your retirement plan is a horribly stupid plan.    Howie's plan at S and LB last year were lottery tickets and band-aids.   We got equal production from them as to match the investment that Howie made.   He got equal ROI.

A J Brown hit the nail on the head this morning.
