Love that quote. He'd be a favorite here.

If only he played OL and was in his late 20s

The Eagles trading Reddick in itself would piss me off less than the idea of them choosing Josh Sweat over him. That's what I think this is all about. If Sweat were traded say a year ago, I think Reddick would've already been signed. They don't want to pay both.

And Sweat is just the latest Eagles draft pick the team overrates. Granted, he's one who's actually good, but they still overrate him. The way beat guys who talk about Sweat, they say the Eagles think Sweat is a top tier pass rusher and he's not. Picking him over Reddick would just be another example of them overrating their own draft picks. They tried to extract blood from a stone with Barnett, Reagor, they're still doing it with Gainwell. Even with the difference in their age, if the Eagles drafted Reddick and signed Josh Sweat, I guarantee Sweat is the one they'd be shopping right now.

When Sweat talks about wanting $25 million a year for his next contract I think we hear a similar story to Reddick this season.  Still possible Eagles find a way to keep Reddick.

They may well still keep Reddick. Theyre pretty close on money and seem to agree on years. No reason why it couldnt get done.

At the same time, it should come as no surprise that teams are interested in trading for him. Today's "news" isnt really news.

Always a good read. How are we feeling about Queen at $15M per year or Jordyn Brooks at $10M?

There are young guards and DTs on this list. Feels like we can have a meat and potatoes free agency and address the other positions in the draft.

Sign Guard, DT, and LB

Draft CB, DE, LB, S, RT project, WR.

That would be an insane contract to offer him.

Can NFL teams trade with flag football associations?

He would be good in the arena league because he can bank throws off of the boards.

Only if he has hockey toughness

Way :offtopic:.

I have, on occasion, plugged Vietnam Restaurant on 11th St and the Vietnam Cafe in West Philly at 47th and Baltimore, and spoken highly of the Lai family that owns them. Benny and Tammy Lai are among the nicest people you could ever meet and their food is terrific. (Benny's younger sister, Tina, is married to Jeffrey Lurie so there is an Eagle connection.)

Anyway, today I am thrilled to learn that they have just won a James Beard award.

Really enjoy Vietnamese food.

Feels like that’s the Eagles leak. That teams are interested in him to try to get more value to get what they want in a trade. I think they’ll be teams that want to trade for him. I don’t think teams are going to wanna pay him in a new contract and give up the compensation that the Eagles are asking for. I think that the better question is what are they actually going to get if they trade him.

I think it's from Reddick's people. First, Anderson usually has sources from players and agents, not the organization. Second, this feels like Reddick's team trying to make it seem like others are willing to trade for him and pay him. But no teams are mentioned, no details.

I think there's a 75% chance he is here in 2024. They aren't that far apart on an extension, and you could just convert his base into a signing bonus, lower his cap number, and have him play out the contract if you can't agree on a deal. He'll fetch a 3rd as a comp pick most likely, so no way you're dealing him for less than a 2nd. And no one is giving up a 2nd and paying him $25mm/year.

This is all just a PR dance, IMO.

I've been adamant I want to keep Reddick. I think 2023 has people paranoid and wanting to overcorrect. Bradberry's season has a lot of people shook about keeping anyone at big money over age 30 now. Burns will be tagged, Allen will be tagged, Chase Young has talent but is a risk. This isn't a great pass rusher free agent class or a great draft class. And they have too many needs to where using a first rounder on an edge will hurt them in other areas. I don't see any way trading Reddick doesn't significantly hurt their SB chances in 2024. And make no mistake, 2024 is a SB or bust season. Otherwise, they wouldn't have made the coaching moves they made. If they had any desires to take a step back, Sirianni would've been fired.

I don't see any viable replacement, and a 2nd rounder+ is fine, but it doesn't really help the Eagles in 2024. Their most productive pass rusher since Trent Cole and possibly even Reggie White walking out the door isn't easy to replace. And Josh Sweat was inconsistent with Reddick on the other side. Imagine how much more inconsistent he'll be when he's the one offenses focus on because they lost that guy on the other side.

Telling you, trading Reddick, this pass rush will be bottom 5 in the league. And sure they might be better off in 2026 or 2027 because of it, but people are not going to be happy in November and December when we're sick of watching QBs have all day to throw every week because the pass rush blows. Everyone can act like they're cool building for the future in the moment, but when the games actually start, fans tend to sing a different tune. We saw it this past season. A year ago it was "I understand why they let so many free agents walk" and during the season it was "They let way too many guys walk, Howie is an idiot for letting Edwards, White, etc go"

I don't want to either, I'm just looking at the other side of the coin if he is traded.

Agree on the second and 3rd paragraph. It makes more sense from an eagles standpoint for it to be leaked out. Only problem with the Reddick Side leaking it is the eagles say give us the teams let us talk to see what they are willing to offer. Reddick and his agent are gonna be forced to do that in order to gauge the compensation coming back. If his agent says no the eagles are gonna call his bluff.  he and his agent are going to have to tell and disclose the teams to the eagles at some point cause I’m guessing the eagles already know teams are willing to deal for him just don’t know what they are willing to give up. The eagles would ask to speak to the teams to make a determination on the situation

Imo makes sense the eagles put that out there to try to male interested teams nervous and get a bidding war to see if they get compensation to make them trade him. If other teams that are interested believe there’s multiple suitors they’d ante up more.

Random thought: Would you trade Reddick for Sneed and impending monster contract?

Nope. No Howie. Not again.

Seeing him rack up 15 sacks in KC next season would be depressing

We already have Steen for our RT project.

Sign HB, S, WR, CB (Mid tier)

Draft DT, TE, OG/OT

Do both at LB, DE.

Im higher than most on Rodgers, Ricks, and Ringo taking over for Slay, Bradbury, and Maddox.

If we can shed #24 and Maddox, I’d like to sign a mid tier CB FA to a 2 year deal while the aforementioned develop.

I’s prefer a stable, proven, running back, safety, and 3rd receiver.

Then snagging more DT depth, a solid tight end, and offensive line through the draft (we’ve seemed to have the best outcomes here)

Then doing a mixture of both at linebacker and defensive end, especially if we lose Reddick.

There's incentive for either side to leak it. Eagles if they are trying to get people to pay up. Reddick is he is trying to put pressure on the Eagles (through the fans) to pay up because other teams are willing to do so. Either way, it's hard to see any team meeting the asking price in trade compensation and a new contract.

Best bet -- they get a 3 year extension done that is really a 2 year, $45mm deal. Year 3 will be $30mm non-guaranteed so he can say he got $25mm/year.

I kind of think the most likely solution is he plays this year out. They give him some extra money like the cardinals did with Buddha baker last offseason. I’d do a 3 year extension. I think he’s likely still good the next 3 years anyway and likely cutting or moving on after 2-3 years.
