It's not a pressing need but it's one of those sneaky needs. Hell just 2 years ago they had to bring in Joseph and Suh just to get through the year and they were supposed to have great DT depth that year too.

They signed them after Davis suffered a high ankle sprain and Marlon T tore his meniscus and was placed on IR.

DT is not a need

If DT is a need, I can’t imagine the threshold for you to say a position isn’t a need.

Jalen Carter is a special talent. He's not proven to be the guy yet. It's still fair to question his maturity at this point. Jordan Davis is only playing half the snaps. Milton Williams is in the last year of his deal. Marlon Tuipulotu is DT5 material. Ojomo (who I'm high on), played all of 68 snaps and is far from a roster lock. Elliss and Booker are future contract guys, or PS players.

It sucks to say it because it seems they invest a ton at DT, but DT is still a need.

I wouldn’t call DT a need, but I would say it’s very disappointingly unsettled considering the investment it has received.

Meh. Carter is obviously good but will always have a cloud around him. Milton is good. Davis needs to step up.

I did something similar to this on deployment in 2014 and it was exhausting lol. I did gain 15ish pounds in like 6.5 months though. I don't think I could ever do that schedule again

My last deployment I didn't set foot in the "gym" once, lol. But I did do ~400-500 push-ups and crunches a day, plus a ~14 min 2-mile run every two days. That at 3500' elevation, plus not drinking for 6 months, and I felt like superman when I got back to Florida. Only time I ever got a perfect PT score...

Carrying 7 DT's for that beginning stretch was an outlier. Once we traded Street we had 6 the rest of the way. I'm not sure Fangio would even want to carry 6, so realistically you are probably looking at 5 DT's.

Carter - Lock, not going anywhere

Davis - Lock, not going anywhere

Williams - Lock, not going anywhere

Tuipulotu - Eagles like him. Not a lock but as of now he's probably here and back up NT.

Ojomo - Eagles seem to like him by carrying him all year and not playing him.

So realistically, you are at best trying to upgrade from Tuipulotu if you are talking about using assets at DT. Which if he gets beat out by some super cheap vet or UDFA/Late round pick, so be it. DT isn't really a need, they just need the young guys to take the next step.

I guess if the CBs are gone, a BPA argument can certainly be made for DT.  I just want to see these guys play, the long term RT plan might be too smart.

And Cox has yet to retire.

That's true. If he did decide to keep playing I bet Howie would bring him back.

You need those NFL vitamins.. gain 30 lbs of muscle in 6 weeks.  All first to second year players do it... just ask Dave Spadaro.

Is he the defensive Alex O.?

Not quite, he actually has a reason being a 7th round rookie

Circling back to Howie wanting the young guys to play more, that’s great in theory and in a perfect world. Unfortunately Sirianni knows he’s on the hot seat and Fangio apparently buried a second round rookie corner because of he blew an assignment early in the year. Good luck convincing the coaches to do it.

I would be furious if we passed on Cooper for Trotter Jr. Cooper is just a better prospect. This is not a knock on Trotter, but he's just not as good.

I will lose it if that happens. If they pander and take Trotter just for the cheap pop of the fanbase, it's indefensible.

I don't think Cooper is going to be there when (if) Howie decides to pick a LB. They aren't doing it first round, I think if they do it all it's going to be the later 2nd and I think Cooper will be gone by then. At that point I think trotter would be fine

I find it kinda hilarious people complain about remakes and reboots but desperately want to do it with the Eagles by signing Runyan and drafting Trotter.

For the most part, the father / son pattern has been successful lately. It's not a bad gamble with players in the draft.

Great stuff. It takes a bit to get acclimated to, but 3500 feet isn't that high 😅

Somebody should let Spotrac and OTC he's not under contract because they both have him under contract for '24 and hitting free agency in '25.

I think the uncertainty is more down to the Eagles reluctance to lower Cox's pitch count rather than others failure to make the grade, PFF had four Eagles DT's (Carter, Cox, Davis and Williams) in the top 32 of their seasons ratings for '23, that suggests we have the right players, and I do think that Tuipolotu is good enough to step up his snap count in '24.

I'd be disappointed to see a DT picked in the first 2 days in '24, whether Cox retires or not.

Not quite.

Note the highlighted portion at the bottom.   2024 is a dummy year.

Looks like both have him as being released post-June 1 in 2024 as the structure of the contract calls for a void in 2024.    We'll likely hear about it soon, because I think they would release him immediately with one of the post-June 1 designations.   Plus, he cleaned out his locker completely at the end of the year for the first time ever.    The question remaining is whether or not he retires, not whether or not he's on the Eagles.   Seems a foregone conclusion, he's not back this coming year.
