Jurgens isn't an unknown. He was drafted in the 2nd round to be the successor of Jason Kelce. He showed out in the preseason of his rookie year and looked like a Kelce clone while playing Center. The team won't be as good when Kelce retires, BUT it puts them on the path to Jurgens becoming the Eagles Center for the next decade. Jurgens is going in to year 3 and has yet to play where he was drafted to play. He's the weak link at RG because he's not a RG. He could be a strength at his natural position. I'd rather Kelce walks away, while he still can, and healthy as he's stated he wants to instead of coming back one year more while his body refuses to recover and it effects his play.

Seeing team greats walk away sucks. It's never fun when your favorite players have to retire or they finish for another team.

So he has never played center and is an unknown. He hasn't blown us away at G so it's hard to get excited.

The premise was built off of OP saying he watched women today missing layups and airballing. I just posted a video of men’s LSU team in late 1960s airballing and missing layups. The conversation is comparing the talent levels in Pete’s generation to today because those are the two people being compared, playing their respective leagues and times.

He’s playing against men in 1967, she’s playing against women today. You guys are somehow making an argument about men like Kareem playing in the women’s game. It’s irrelevant and completely ignores the conversation. No ones saying the women today are better than Kareem or Wilt lmao. It proves difficult for people to comprehend propositions without taking time to remove their bias and initial reaction.

No I mentioned Kareem to give you context about what the skill level was like in 1967.

You're making it out to be cave man ball.  The game has changed a lot, but there were very skilled players in that era.

To say that an average female NCAA basketball player in 2024 is more skilled than a male NCAA player in 1967 is still absurd.

Kelce said he won't be taking any questions.

Makes me wonder if he's staying. WIP speculated he might be too emotional to talk about it. But you only get one retirement announcement press conference. So you figure if he was retiring he'd want to take the questions and wrap it all up. If he was coming back it would make sense to not answer any questions because he'd be bombarded with "Why are you coming back?" "Why didn't you retire?" There's really be nothing to answer.

He's probably retiring, but the no questions thing leaves the door open a crack I think.

Why would you have a press conference to announce you’re going to continue to play for the team? Seems egotistical and off brand for Kelce.

Eh he has his own podcast. I feel like he’ll explain everything and why he chose to retire in that podcast so no need to answer questions

I agree that it's probably because it's going to be emotional and he just wants to say all he has to say and then take time for himself. At this point, I think everyone knows why he would retire so idk what questions really need answers right now.

IMO, the no questions emphatically shuts the door on him coming back.

Aren't you talking about Caitlin Clark?

Go look at an average female college basketball player.  They aren't even close to Clark.

And I said I was specifically responding to the statement comparing the skill of modern women vs men in 1967.

And the average men’s player in 68 is no where near Pete lmao. They’re 1 and 2 in all time NCAA scoring. That’s amazing!

OK true, he's an unknown from that standpoint. I was looking at it more from a standpoint as he's not unknown if you follow the team like we all do. The reason he hasn't blown us away at RG is because he isn't a RG. He probably played last year at 290. Do you think Kelce would be as good of a RG as he is a Center? Two totally different positions. Cam Jurgens even tried to bulk up to play RG last year. He put on over 40 lbs in college as he moved from TE to C. Then he tries to add 10-15 to play RG. He's just not built for that extra weight. He needs to be a 285-290 lb. Center.

Just realize, I'm not saying the Eagles are better without Kelce. I'm not saying Jurgens is ever going to be Jason Kelce. I'm just saying that he's a damn good Center with loads of potential and being the QB of the OL is something he needs to get experience at so he's ready to lead this OL for the next decade.

If Jurgens plays at RG this year, are you prepared to extend him after this year knowing he's an OK RG but never seeing him play Center? I'd much rather he plays Center so they can lock him in to a deal knowing he's the guy.

I think Kelce is savvy enough to know that the press conference isn't just for him but for the media so they can write their stories and ask their questions. He can talk about it on his pod, but it isn't the same.

But maybe he's just trying to save it all for his pod to increase the ratings as his first post career business decision. Because it would have record views probably. Who knows.

I wonder if any HOF players have retired and not answered any questions. I don't know the answer, I don't typically watch those press conferences.

I don’t think it’s absurd. The only people you guys can reference in 68 are the Kareem UCLA team, Pistol Pete lmao.

Again no one said a men’s team wouldn’t beat a women’s team.

It was caveman ball. 1966 was the first time a team had 5 black starters in a championship game lmao. Most of these dudes played basketball like Michael Scott form the office. The overwhelming majority were just tall. Couldn’t dribble, couldn’t shoot. Todays 15th bench player in the NBA would be a college hall of Famer in 1968.

They’re gonna write stories based off what he says on his podcast. It makes no  difference. They’re gonna write the same story that he retired and give quotes at presser or his podcast. They can get those quotes from his podcast. You think they’re not gonna listen to his next podcast when he talks about it and gives quotes and put into a story? For him it doesn’t have to be the same. His ratings are gonna be through the roof when he talks about it because he didn’t let people ask questions about why. So whatever he gives you this press conference you’re gonna wanna listen to the next podcast because he’s gonna give you more information because nobody’s asking questions. So what is more important to him: having beat writers who’ve written about him for 13 years get questions answered or have his next podcast potentially have all time ratings because people are gonna wanna listen to hear why he made the decision he did?

also, I’m guessing whatever he says at the press conference is probably enough for  to write a story and take quotes.  I feel like there would need to be more questions asked if he was going to return. Because he’s probably gonna tell you why he’s retiring and why it was time. Only questions from there would be what happened this year, did the way this season went down make it easier or harder and what are you doing next. Which I’m guessing he’s likely withholding for his own podcast

I question whether Guyton's workout yesterday was enough to keep in in the round 1 conversation.

Everyone knows he is really raw. And aside from the seal of approval from Lane, the thing that made him a great fit here was that he didnt have to start right away.

But it seemed like theyd have to take him at 22.

The workout wasnt bad. But it wasnt the incredible showing it sounded like it would be. And if hes not some other worldly athlete, why do you take a player that raw, that early?

Just part of a series of questioning to figure out our whole OL situation. At this point, I dont see why you have to take Guyton in round 1, or even round 2, when you can have Greenfield in round 3.

At this point, Im interested in signing a guard to make SURE that position is shored up rather than counting on Steen. Jurgens to center.

Now, you still need an OT of the future, and to ensure depth.

I keep Driscoll with his center versatility, and also remember Dickerson has center versatility if needed in a pinch.

Draft a round 3 RT prospect. And maybe look at interior OL again in the later rounds and UDFA for depth. Or possibly a later free agent signing in like round 3 of free agency.

Apparently there are several seats reserved for the PC.

He's retiring.

Jon Runyan Jr FA OG?

Yes.

Also, are there any better OGs available?

I figured he would be a nice, solid, mid-tier type of signing.

Im not opposed to aiming higher right now. Jurgens is an unknown at center. I want the rest of the OL to be for sure, damn good.

PC gonna be live streamed?

He's a jag, ok for a back up though. The once strength of the team is slipping back. Kelce to Jurgens, RG isn't once it once was with Seumalo either. Maybe it's time to look at FA for a G/C

Brandon Coleman or Christian Mahogany in the draft in the 3rd round.

Runyan + another OL in round 2 and I’m content. Between rookie, Runyan, Jurgens, Steen we’ll have 2 competent starters

Hunt has thrived as an athletic zone blocker for Mike McDaniel, an essential asset for the running game. After Austin Jackson got the extension instead at right tackle, Hunt may be on th

Dotson was a steal for Sean McVay's overall blocking with his combination of strength in the running game and quickness in protection.
