  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

1967 season had the game of the century (twice). Ā My UH Cougars led by Big E Elvin Hayes and some guy named Don Chaney playing Lew and UCLA. Ā Pete, Big E, Don and Kareem could all play in today’s game without a doubt.

Do you really think Clark could score on any of them regularly at 6’? Ā That’s kind of HE’s point. Ā Disparate competition. Ā Clark comes out of the same 6 on 6 level play in the Midwest that my mom played in HS in the 1940s. Ā Different game. Ā She is a phenomenal basketball player and a hell of a shooter but it is a different game than Pistol Pete played. Ā Three point line is different for women. Ā No three pointer for Pete. Ā Clark four years, Pete three playing years. (Couldn’t play varsity as a freshman back then and his freshman stats don’t count.) No one is putting down her achievements, but to say she beat Pete’s record is kind of nonsense. Ā Not comparable at all. Ā

So then let’s just abolish all records because these games evolve and change constantly. What’s the similarity in 1967 men’s basketball versus today’s that put them on equal footing? No shot clock, no 3 point line, they weren’t allowed to dunk, etc.Ā
Ā

the NCAA is an organization and when it comes to basketball she’s scored the most points ever. That’s record and one the organization has decided to uphold and celebrate regardless of your guys’ notions that women’s basketball doesn’t count.Ā

You are changing subjects when you said this. You and your boy both got a touch of he dementiaĀ

YouĀ guys need to slow your roll on thisĀ

Go watch a freaking basketball game from 1967.Ā  There were far more skilled than what you are making it out to be.

What has dramaticallyĀ changed in modern basketball is athleticism and size, not skill.

I did watch the Game of the Century. Ā (Granted I was a tween back then in Houston). To suggest that Alcindor, Big E and Don Chaney weren’t skilled is moronic. Ā I also had the pleasure of watching Pistol Pete play. Ā  Don 6’5ā€ (same as Pete), Big E 6’9ā€. Ā My #1 ranked Cougars sport as their bigs, 6’7ā€ Roberts and 6’8ā€ Francis (although Francis’ wingspan is phenomenal). Ā I’d suggest you are wrong about the quality of the game in 67. Ā Lot less dunking (heck, Lew/Kareem’s claim to fame was his skyhook. Ā We all learned to shoot that as kids back then). Ā Lot more shooting. Ā Pistol was ice from just about anywhere and terrific with layups too.Ā

The portion about the fans needs to be shown to every new Philadelphia athlete, and every time the national media uses cliches about the fans boo and threw snowballs at Santa.

"The fans and media only write what you give them."

Oof.

Owning his poor performance in the 2016 season, he said almost everyone in the organization wanted to get rid of him...except Stoutland.

That was an awesome speech. Cries and laughs. All coming from a guy wearing no sleeves doing a retirement speech.Ā

Berman is so short..

You haven’t read enough of the thread to understand the argument or the responses to the OP. Ā No one said Kaitlyn should play men’s basketball.Ā
Ā

Men are competing against men, and women are competing against women. We’re talking about the relative competition for each of them in their own generations and genders. Ā Pistol Pete did his against his competition and Clark did hers against her completion. Both within the set of rules of their time competing against the best possible players in their leagues. This isn’t and has never been a conversation saying women would beat mean at basketball. Thats a lazy take and further seems to devalue and ignore the talent of women’s basketball and sports in general.Ā

Now what am I supposed to do the rest of the day?

Well.Ā  Ā That was hard.Ā  Good luck filling those shoes Cam.

I love what a great role model Jason Kelce is -- I'm gonna tell his story to my boys.Ā  Undersized guy that worked his tail off and made something of himself.Ā Ā

The tears are flowingĀ

I’m not doing anything today other than watching the parade speech & Super Bowl win. There’s gotta be a Jason Kelce highlight video right? I’m gonna add that to the list

You knew it was going to happen, you just didn't know when and how. I was not ready for that.

No wonder it took so long to officially announce, it probably took him all that time to write that epic sendoff.

Cry at your desk like a man.Ā

Love ya Kelce. Thanks for the memories.

We all know how this NFL script will play out. Jurgens gets some major injury in TC or early in the season and Howie makes the call
