  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

there is a difference between not happy with what theyve seen, or havent seen enough yet. In which case they still need a solid insurance plan.

I think you sign a vet as insurance, not use a second round pick on one.

He's not a Freakbeast.  Kelce is going to unretire to play FB in the playoffs next season.

What was JJAW then?

Enforcer#1

I think it has more to do with wanting depth and knowing there's talented players available in the 2nd round at the position.  To me, I think they would rather take an OG with a 2nd round grade than a LB with a 3rd round one.

The Eagles draft high picks with an eye on the future.  I mean Jurgens, Dillard, Sidney Jones, and Goedert were not drafted to immediately start.

But Dickerson (presumably) is going to sign a big money extension while Steen us three cheap years on a rookie contract.

I don’t think you’re being intellectually honest if you’re comparing drafting Beebe in round 2 to these other examples. The Eagles knew Peters/Kelce could retire at any moment. Goedert was drafted because we wanted to play more two tight end sets. Jones was drafted to redshirt and then start the next year.

In Beebe’s case, it would be to start immediately.

With the plans to eventually start. Which would mean they either 1) don't want to pay Dickerson (unlikely) or 2) play RG at some point. Steen would be the depth piece, not the guy drafted with a higher premium pick.

You can obtain depth, even quality depth, without using a second round pick on a guard if you’re happy and confident in Steen moving forward.

Bingo.

Or Steen moves to OT.

Which would mean what about how they perceive him as a guard?

Ordered a white Kelce jersey. Now it's a white Kelce and green and kelly green McNabb (for the dog and then the player). All retired players FTW.

Fanatics?

Jones was drafted to start once he was healthy IIRC. I remember people saying he would have gone in the 1st if not for the injury

He ended up being a bust for us

Id prefer your option. Id even be very happy about signing an excellent starter on the free agent market. I dont really want to draft OL this year when the D needs so much help.

Maybe but based on what Johnson said he wouldn’t be starting until his second contract, unless there is injury, which would make him depth.

I’m not suggesting Eagles think Steen is a bust or unplayable. But it would certainly say based on what they saw already in game or in practice, their projection for what he can be isn’t as high as when they spent a pick on him.

C+ I like the double Coopers.  We cannot draft another Tanner.  It will wreck the locker room.  I think Darius Robinson is kind of a meh pick in the 2nd round.  I would rather they go o-line.

Again, it has to do with how they perceive Beebe.

Surprised the Bucs would even do this considering their roster and his age.

You’re cooking.

They drafted him with the clear intention of being the RG in 2024 if Kelce retired. If they draft a guard, they’re admitting they didn’t see enough and aren’t optimistic in him being a starting quality player in 2024.

Maybe calling it a failed evaluation is harsh because it would only be his second season, but clearly they had high expectations at guard when they drafted him at the top of round 3. To quickly draft his replacement or to move him back to RT would speak volumes.

It would have to do with both.

I don't think Steen's play would have much if any impact on them picking an OG.  The choice in the 2nd round is about the value of that player relative to the value of other players available.  It makes a lot of sense to draft the BPA. Even if they believe Steen will be Brandon Brooks, health and a lack of depth make it a good pick.

I would like to watch Steen play more than one game at RG where he doesn't get isolated against Micah Parsons before calling him a bust.
