If the stats are showing they are better than CJGJ at safety, the only thing that shows is how irrelevant certain statistics are and how limited they are in evaluating players. The eyes tell you otherwise. He's a rangey player who covers a lot of ground, has good ball skills, is tough, plays with moxie. All things this defense lacked. His injuries are a concern, but which is why I wouldn't pay him a lot, but in terms of ability and what the Eagles need I think he's a great fit.

The eyes tells you he gambles for interceptions and is out of position a lot, like the CB on Dallas.

He's a better nickel back b/c there he's not the last man on defense and can gamble with less negative impact.

Id be all for Curl, AND Mills. Im gonna bang the table for Mills again considering how badly beat up our secondary was last year. His versatility of S/CB/NCB is a huge plus.

Give me Curl, Kenny Moore, and a RG. As the bigger signings.

Give me a rotational DT and a solid LB as the mid-tier or cheaper signings.

Mills is like a training camp time signing in later phases of free agency.

Address WR, and RB in the draft. Pretty much sets you up for BPA with the rest.

Stinking at 3 positions is NOT versatility.  As Howie Meeker once said when told the Canucks were moving Tim Hunter to defence -- "You can put him there; doesn't mean he can PLAY there."

Eagles know how McPhearson looked as a nickel and how well he has recovered from his injury last summer.  Still on a rookie contract.  Will probably get first look at the nickel.  Rodgers, if ever reinstated would probably be the first off the bench as the CB room is currently situated.

Howie looks like he is putting a dent into the salary cap hits from expiring or almost expiring players that will impact this year’s and next’s salary cap cushion.  We always knew that the piper was coming on the Kelce, Cox and Graham void years.

Howie has stated the coaches need to play young players - which to me is him signaling it's time to clear house (eat cap room), audition a lot of young players, start slow and hopefully finish strong. After last year's collapse, he knows the veteran core can't carry the team anymore and patching won't get them back.

That's an interesting stat.  A lot of the guys that have been released were on the wrong side of 30 on teams that were desperate for money, so I don't know if you can read anything much into that.

This rumor truly makes no sense.

Agreed.  This guy has had long stretches where he wasn't all that relevant.  For the right deal and the right length of time (maybe 2-3 years, lots of incentives), I'd be interested.  If he wants big $$, he should go elsewhere.  I hear the Commanders are interested in signing washed up players from division rivals?

If the RB market is soft, bring back DeAndre Swift.  A good OC could get a lot more out of him than we got last year.  He _should_ have been a lot more involved in the passing game than he was.

Bringing back Swift should be the first option

and the Pats have a gazillion dollars in cap space so i dont want any guy they are letting walk on defense

Agree but that doesn't apply to Mills.

We won a SB because Big V had the versality that you speak of. Was he a good starter at any position? No. But he could play 4 spots.

*opens Twitter*

Sees Eagles linked to Saquon, a 31 YO safety, and yet another JAG LB.

They could still bring back McNabb for one of those .... but instead of chicken noodle it would need to be 1/2 booze, half vomit.

His vomit IS half booze, so it would be 3/4 booze

What can be argued as the Eagles biggest need, is FA sudden strength. They could easily bring in 2 starters, put Blankenship in a reserve role, and draft a player and be set.

The Mills hate is silly. He's a fine safety and he's a serviceable corner in a pinch. He had his flaws, but he also had a solid SB run with us and shut Gronk down for a half in the Super Bowl despite being a third of his size.

He and another good/great safety (Curl) would be a great pair with Blank and Brown off the bench.

If it wasn't such a good nickel rookie CB class, I'd be tempted with a CJGJ & McKinney/Simmons combo.

Our top FA signees at safety last year can’t even make a 16-deep list of FA safeties this year.

I think it's more coincidental than anything but it's possible it's also giving some insight as to how the NFL as a whole are viewing the S position and that it is possibly overvalued. There are some indicators that they might be trying to reset the market to be more favorable.

It was a nice pool of safeties with more than a handful of options to choose from on last year's free agency as well.

We passed on all of them and signed Edmonds pretty late.

Ridiculous.

Found our starter

Yep, CGJ wanted some big money last year and was angry when the Eagles didn't offer it.  Market is now supporting Howie's views there.
