Bringing BG back would seem to contradict that

1 year, $4 million isn’t a move that changes anything. It’s pretty meaningless from a team construction standpoint.

Neither Sweat or Reddick have shown they can drop into coverage which if the 3-4 is your base defense, makes them pass rush specialists, since teams know they're facing a 5 man front with limited ability to change looks.

They may want to go with a combination of cheaper "true" 3-4 OLBs and 4-3 DE pass rush specialists on obvious passing downs.

As we saw down the stretch, Sweat and Reddick are both undersized DEs who fit certain roles (Elephant, etc.) but aren't 4-3 three down starters or 3-4 OLBs,

Seems we are going to see radical changes on defense. We all criticized Howie for trying to run it back in 2019 and 2020 with the Super Bowl core. Looks like he has learned from his mistake and is ready to tear it down (at least on defense).

Let's see what happens at middle linebacker, safety and corner

I think he meant to say "on the move.”

I don't disagree, but Nolan Smith had some of the worst zone awareness I have ever seen. Yes he can move, but he can't drop.

He never has but that doesn’t mean he can’t. That’s what coaching is for.

To me, an issue that needs to be discussed is Nolan Smith had durability issues at Georgia. So this year he played the limited number of snaps. But  we find out in the off-season he needed maintenance surgery on his shoulder. That doesn’t make me feel great. Can say well it’s just maintenance but really he had durability concerns entering the nfl and we don’t know if he’s actually ready to start next year.

Whatever the role is for Smith next year, can we get him in a real number? I know this is a new NFL with less number restrictions across the board, but goodness, #3 is terrible for him. 58 is there for the taking and 52, 53, 54 are all opening up. Steen could give up 56 and take a more traditional OL #.

I don't know what most irrelevant backup DE's are making these days.  Graham will not provide any pass rush next year, but he's strong, tenacious, and can eat snaps while doing a decent job against the run.

I have no idea what that going rate is; I would have figured there are more anonymous, younger guys who can provide that service for closer to $1.5-2m.

We have no depth there and everyone loves Graham, so fine.  But it feels like they are throwing about $2m out the window for sentimentality on a guy who should have known to let go.

Dare I say....

Craziest off-season in 30 years.

He could be a good low risk-high potential guy in the middle rounds. Reminds me of Jeremey Maclin. His year was all wonky because of the NCAA and their transfer rules, but he's a weapon.

Njoku, Amari, Moore, Jeudy… healthy Chubb in the backfield

If Deshaun Watson can stop raping people for 10 damn minutes they might be a scary offense

They aren't going to trade both, I don't care how much they try to spin the incredibly disappointing Nolan Smith. Starting him in 2024 would be malpractice.

Maintenace procedure? Well now I'm worried if he'll end up being injury prone

Howie with his usual sentimental signing

I think the Browns would be a great team for Kirk Cousins. Look at the success they had with Flacco coming off the streets. Watson is a great talent and offers a 2nd dimension with his legs, but at the same time, the team was better without him when they could just run their offense and get the ball down the field in to Cooper and Njoku's hands.

Should've taken Porter or Branch.

Even BG sees it:

"Because I know Howie (Roseman); I trust him. We got the players, it’s just about making sure we got the whole collective.I’m excited…I know when we have a bad season, Howie always does a good job of coming back.”

His smack talk on the field is worth about 2m a year, though.

Probably just like the Eagles would be better with a real QB vs Hurts who's a gimmick and lost when his first target is covered. I know...we have to be thankful he isn't as bad as many teams QBs. He still isn't the guy.

Wow that Browns trade is INSANE value.
