  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

I finally watched it, and I wouldn’t say he was pretty bad, but I wouldn’t agree with Howie’s assessment that he played pretty well either. He looks so small and he doesn’t look like a great athlete, at least not with the agility.

What has surprised me when I look at him play is that he doesn't look nearly as fast as his 40 time would suggest. He gets off the line really slow snap after snap. Seems like he's a half second behind all the other defenders. Reddick EXPLODES off the line and utilizes every ounce of his speed and quickness to get into the backfield with force. Nolan Smith needs to learn that burst right off the snap. It was an issue in college too. But I think this is something that can be worked on.

If he could, why didn’t the Jets do it?

Also the leap of faith comment originated based on the comment that he would be meaningfully better than Reddick next year.

Um…because they are the New York Jets?

He looks like he needs quite a bit of coaching up.  Didn’t appear from those snaps that he had any plan of attack on most snaps, didn’t see any spin moves, swim moves, or the like.  Even watching his film at UGA he looks too small to be an elite edge rusher in the NFL.

I always pictured him as an off-ball LB — but that would require even more extensive coaching to convert him.

Are you 10 years old or do you just have a really really REALLY low IQ?

Evidently you do because you're incapable of having a conversation and continue to attack me personally.

Grow up a bit friend, life's short.

Yea, it’s the Jets. But with Saleh and their defense they still didn’t want him on the field more than 50% of the time. They are letting a pass rusher walk at 25. Maybe it’s just the Jets but there are some flags out there.

Chris Jones is around $32M per year. Holy F.

Remember when a QB making that much was insane?

Micah is at least getting $35M.

Never liked Chicago much. Much prefer Earth, Wind, and Fire. Oh, well.

With RB, people say Kellen Moore is pass happy & utilizes the RB more in screens & passing game. That fits Swift, I could see him coming back.

I'm not crazy about Barkley, personally. The potential is there, sure, but he's been banged up a lot and aside from last year hasn't done much of anything in his career over the last four(?) seasons.

Swift may not have as high of a ceiling (which I'm not sure I agree with at this point), but I'd rather roll with him.

They have depth there and other players to pay big money to.

Something else to consider with Swift: He’s so bad in pass protection that he comes off the field on many third downs. That limits his value as a receiving back.

OK, just doing some Sunday morning thinking here after seeing that the Eagles are interested in nearly every available player, notably both Swift and Barkley.

Between Jalen Hurts (157) and Kenny Gainwell (84) there were 241 carries. 40 of those were QB sneaks.

Saquon Barkley had 247 carries last year.

Maybe the Eagles are seriously considering a Swift/Barkley 1-2 punch with the intent of eliminating the called runs for Hurts and an upgrade from Kenny Gainwell.

Swift saw his best production last year and while many think there were more plays to be had from him, 230 carries was 80 more than his previous career high. He also only had 39 catches compared to his career high of 62. I could see the Eagles thinking of bringing him back and changing his role a bit. Get him the same amount of touches but more like 200 carries and 55 catches.

They bring in Barkley to take Gainwell's 84 carries and 30 catches, plus 30 of Swift's and let's say 120 of Hurts runs. That gives Barkley 230 carries.

D'Andre Swift- 200 carries 55 catches

Saquon Barkley- 230 carries 30 catches

Kenny Gainwell- 20 carries (Boston Scott's 2023 role)

Jalen Hurts- 40 carries

Wait...maybe coffee hasn't taken hold, are you saying the Eagles, with all of their holes, sign Swift and Barkley in Free Agency?

They’ve taken an Edge rusher in the first round in both 2023 and 2022. At some point it’s just not feasible to pay a dude 15-20m$ AAV when you want his backups to fight him for playing time. That has to be the primary reason they’re letting him walk. Same thing that happened to Hargrave

I haven’t watched to verify the claim, but wanted to post anyway.

No way they pay both. They don’t spend money at this position and with all the needs we have, it would be stupid to put that much money into the rb position

I think the argument for him will still be his pass rush win rate.

Another cheap option that the Eagles may look at is Zack Moss, depending on how the other backs shake out.

Ok but that doesn’t answer why he was never more than a situational guy

I'd take Moss to go with Swift. But Moss and Gainwell sounds like crap to me.
