I’ve thought about the same thing. We’ll for sure see 4 QB, 3 WR, 2 CB, 2 DE, 1 TE, 4 OT, all go before 22, that’s 16 guys. Plus there’s a possibility of 2 DT, Bo Nix, Brian Thomas Jr, Adonai Mitchell, Troy Fautanu, and Jackson Powers-Johnson going ahead of 22 also. So I agree it’s very reasonable to say Mims will be there, and if he is he’s going to be the pick. It all makes too much sense with him & Howie’s MO. I did a mock & I had Mitchell/Mims available, even with a great 1st rd CB available I still think Howie takes the OT over him.

yep. Itll be an OT over CB if Mims is on the board for sure. Ill be said. But I get it.

In addition to all the other guys you mentioned as possibly going before our pick

4 QBs will be gone very early, so wouldnt be shocked to see some team trade up to make sure they get the 5th whether thats Nix or Penix.

And you might see more than 2 CBs go before our pick as well. Figure Mitchell and Arnold go. Nate Wiggins probably goes too. Or DeJean.

You have 2 DEs going, Im assuming Latu and Verse? Dont forget about 1 edge- Dallas Turner will be off the board before our pick.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

If they trade both Sweat & Reddick and replace them with Smith & Huff, not seeing how that's not a major downgrade.

I forgot about Latu! I was thinking Verse & Turner as the 2 DE, so Latu is another name in that mix.  But yeah, I would be really sad if we pass on Mitchell. He’s my favorite in rd 1 right now. I don’t think Penix goes 1st round, but I think Nix definitely can. I really think Denver takes him if they miss on McCarthy. I’m unsure on where Wiggins & DeJean go, but it’s fair to say they could go in the teens.

Interesting the impact on the cap these retirements are having.  Savings don’t kick in until June 1.

i suspect the Eagles timed out the Fletch and Kelce retirements so that each gets attention they well deserve.   Won’t be surprised to see some announcements tomorrow.  Likely candidates: Lovato, Mann, Stoll.

BTW, prediction on Stoll not being tendered was a no brainer.  No original round tender available and others way too rich.  That said, the Albert O signing was a surprise.  Been pondering this since the announcement.  Albert is 258 to Stoll’s 247.  When Stoll was banged up, his blocking really suffered.  Just about every practice, the TEs spend time with Stout.  I wonder if Stout fixed Albert’s blocking issues (whiffs mainly due to reaching with extended arms).

Off the wall thought. Poe is the only other C on the roster at this point. Now, he played G in college so how he snaps is a question mark.  When Jurgens was a back up his first year, he played some sixth OL.  Back up C is usually active.  In HS and his freshman year, Poe played FB.  His workout tape suggests decent hands.  He ran a 4.95 forty with a 4.52 SS and a 7.52 3 cone while benching 34. 31.5 vertical and a 111 broad jump.  Only 6’ 1” and 300 with 32” arms but 10 3/4 hands.  How hard would it be for him to equal Stoll’s catches when they go heavy assuming Albert can block better with Stout’s tutelage.

Great post.   Contains HS and combine/pro day numbers.

I don’t think it’s a major downgrade but I do think it is a bit of a risk

Huff and Smith are total wild cards, Huff never being a FT player and Smith needing more size and having durability concerns. Would think they'd make another big edge investment in this case.

the fact that Huff leaked 2 days before we can actually do anything leads me to believe 99.9% that he isnt an eagles target. Theyll sign someone who wasnt talked about like Greenard or Wonnum.

All 32 teams can begin negotiations with pending free agents starting March 11, and both signings and trades can be finalized starting March 13.

On the 13th, the new league year begins at 4 pm. Tampering period begins at noon.  Basically a 52 hour period to negotiate but the actual signings and trades cannot occur before the 13th at 4 p.m. (I imagine some players have been told to contact the Eagles if they get offers so they can counter.  They don’t have to do so but would be fools not to do so.). Top 51 contracts need to be within the salary cap at the start of the new year. June 1 releases or retirements count against the cap until June 1.  Most roster bonuses are triggered in the first weeks of the new year league as well as guarantees that are triggered.  The fun really begins tomorrow.

Mims has basically one season in college.  Athletic, to be sure, but pretty raw.  Not seeing the risk in projections of where he will go.

AJ Brown and Smith with Hurts at QB.

Its why he is so perfect for the eagles. They dont need him to start day 1. He has time in Stoutland University. And most of his experience is at RT so he slots right in there, where our need is going to be.

For this year, Driscoll may be gone, so now youll have a versatile swing tackle who can play both sides as a backup if needed.

Who is the non-eagles free agent you are most sure will become an eagle tomorrow?

For me, its Greenard.

Theres too much smoke around something happening at DE/OLB. Hes the DE/OLB who hasnt been rumored to us. He is still young. Highly productive. Semi-philly connection with DeMeco Ryans who would likely speak highly of the organization if Greenard asks him what he thinks about Philly. Looks/sounds to be a leader. Level headed guy. Vocal leader (not quite to the level of Graham) that makes him a nice Graham replacement. Will be nice to have them with a year together.

Picture this

Edge-Greenard- pretty expensive but less than Danielle Hunter presumably. Big ticket signing. 4/72M

S-McKinney- maybe a bunch of money for safety but in a down market for safeties, not a bank breaker. Upper mid-tier price level. 3/33?

Nickel- Gardner-Johnson- cheap 1/3M

I think you have money left to re-sign Swift (cheap), sign a solid starting LB (mid-tier), and a 3rd WR.

I think all of that is doable with the amount of money we have. Sets us up very well heading in to the drat.

You cry more than an infant

Could be a good vet LB who fits a 3-4 if they can't land a top backer and no impact on comp picks.

I think he was one of everyone's biggest wants last free agency.

He is 30 now and missed chunks of the last TWO seasons.

Probably a pass unless hes gonna be cheap.

He's a last resort kind of signing is what I meant by if they can't land a top backer. He's probably a better option than Cunningham was last year but not what he once was. The important thing is he would bring veteran leadership and experience in a 3-4.
