Having caught up.  The roster still has the same holes it had at LB and S, but to be fair, this is day 1 and the early hours of the tampering period. Clearly, the roster is just starting to be formed.  Barkley is clearly talented in a way the team haven't had at RB for some time.  Huff seems a cheaper replacement for Reddick.

Let's see how they improve the other positions of need

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Bring us Justin Simmons and we can really start cooking.

Can't wait to see $16m get 3 carries in the first half and 15 touches a game like they did with swift. Or have hurts pull the ball on him all the time

I would rather they look at someone a little younger.

That would suck. They just have freak athletes to get after passer. Fits what they do.

Barkley isn’t nearly as elusive or versatile as CMC.  Barkley was a better pure rb prospect coming out of college and that’s what Howie is paying for.  But that was a long time ago.  He’s a really good starting RB, but he’s not what he was projected to be and never will be.

Yup, CMC struggled with injuries while with Carolina and niners took a chance and it worked out, im guessing howie is hoping for a similar outcome but im not sure.

Barkley seems like damaged goods to me, well see though, hell definitely have a better O line and weapons around him than he ever did with giants, for the price howie paid hes paying for special and like you say im not sure barkley has been that guy since his rookie year.

Kind if reminds me of the Kearse signing where kearse suffered some serious injuries after a monster rookie season and the eagles paid him like he was coming off that rookie season and kearse was way past beong that guy.

We'll see i guess, im about as excited about barkley signing as I was Kearse, which is lukewarm at best.

Thibs, Burns, and Lawrence on same DL would be pretty scary actually. I hope this trade doesn’t happen

The amount of excuses I've seen to justify giving Barkley that much has been entertaining at least

They'll create a lot of short fields for Jones to not do anything with.

That would suck, he's someone that wold really help that team and someone we want here no less.

The good names are mostly gone so they are back to hoping crap works out.

wanted floyd bad last year. Hes one of the most consistent pass rushers over the last bunch of years. Always around double digit sacks. No idea why he lasted so long on the market last year, but he produced yet again last season. Finally got some respect. Its deserved. Although, at some point he should start regressing. Hes over 30 now.

They’ll regret putting that money and those years into Barkley.  Everyone always does.  They’ll regret it sooner rather than later too.

I tend to agree, but let’s paint a scenario…

The deal is essentially 2 years at $13M per year plus performance bonuses.

Now let’s say one of those two years is a monster all-pro year. Somewhere close to 2000 yards, 15 TDs+, etc.

If we get one year out of him at that type of production, is it worth it?

Sorry. Howie signed a speedball.

Fields stinks.  Having him as your backup QB instead of starting QB doesn't change the fact he stinks, and makes the fact he's one play away from being the Eagles starting QB truly terrifying.

Passing by a QB is apparently an overrated skill these days.

Barkley is a 2yr/$26M contract with a team option. Not exactly breaking the bank with the cap where it is these days.

It's a gamble, but with huge upside, behind this line, in a great passing scheme, Barklkey could give you 2000+ total yards - add that to the big three, and the fact that he can pass block so you have more 3rd down options (i.e. you can have him in the backfield as blitz protection and he's athletic enough for wheel routes) - brings another dimension to this offense.

Swift was a dynamic runner on the second level when he had a hole, but he wasn't a chain mover. And no Eagle RB last year could pass block to save their lives.

Plenty of options still

Curl

CJGJ

Chinn

Simmons

The longer they last the cheaper they get.

People were on this signing pre free-agency.
