I said earlier if we get Simmons, Kenny Moore and sign Jerome baker/jewell I’d be pretty stoked. I think Simmons is fine for 1-2 years. If the eagles believe Blankenship is a long term solution and brown eventually develops into it then you can have Simmons here for a year or two until they are completely ready then move on. Hes still a very good safety. Moore gives you a good slot corner. Baker/jewell are solid starters for this defense.

I really like the idea of Baker signing here, surprised some don’t. Gives us a good enough starter & flexibility in the draft if a quality LB prospect isn’t available.

I'll take Simmons, Jewell, CJGJ. Even 2 of the 3 is fine

There are PLENTY of good LB's and DB's left to sign. Not to mention trades and the draft. I swear the vast majority of people who post here are A1 drama queens.

Same. Everyone keeps saying "Dolphins released him. That tells you everything you need to know"

The Eagles signed one of the best playmakers/RB's in the league, signed a 25 year old 10 sack pass rusher with upside, and re-signed Dickerson for four years all before the first day of legal tampering is even over and several people are whining. Never change TATERS.

Taters gonna tate

For the sake of consideration, isn't it at all possible that simply improving our offensive efficiency can help lessen the defensive load? If we can stay on the field longer, we can keep our key defensive players fresher throughout the game. If we can score more points, we can potentially have larger leads late in games and make opposing offenses more predictable. If we can milk the clock better with leads, we can close out games without needing a big defensive stop.

Obviously defense is important, but people are overlooking what a strong, running offense can do to help a defense out.

Sure a running game can help the defense and theres the old adage that the best defense is a good offense but just maybe and hear me out here, maybe the best defense is a good defense.

Seems foolish to just hope the offense plays so well that one can ignore 2/3rds of the defense.

One doesnt need the 90 eagles D to win a super bowl but not too many teams have won lately without a top 10 D.

I realize its the first day of FA but if howie opens the season with Dean and Vansumeran at LB its gonna be an issue

Insanity.

Huff + Barkley + Dickerson was a quality day 1 for me. I’m assuming no more Eagles deals tonight.

Really hope we get some back 7 additions tomorrow & some clarity on Sweat/Reddick, I’m glad some of you guys like Baun but he doesn’t move the needle for me.

Carolina has to do what Jaguars did a few years back, massively overpay players to come play for them. At least they can feel a bit better about their OL now. How’s that T they drafted early couple years back Ikem Ekwonu developing?

I think Blank and Brown would be fine at safety but not this year as im not sure Brown coming off ACL will be ready this year

Yeah, I'm really making a dope of myself for not being negative after they added two really good players and re-signed a core piece on the first day of legal tampering. Oh and God forbid I actually have a good and busy life and am unable to spend half my day on the EMB blog like legends such as yourself 🤣 Great post Riley Cooper.

Riley Cooper wasn't necessary

I’m really not worried yet. We still got time and there’s plenty of guys available. The longer this goes out the more their price drops. I liked McKinney but that price was really high. And if the Eagles actually believe Reed Blankenship and Sydney Brown are the future at safety then you really don’t need somebody that’s the long-term solution. You need somebody like Justin Simmons who can be here for two years play at a high-level until Sydney Brown fully recovers and they trust Blankenship and brown. Year 2 of the contract be able to employ 3 safeties

i start getting worried if we are 3 weeks into free agency and our safety’s and linebackers are still what they are.

Carolina will take years to get over them taking Bryce over Stroud. Couple that with not taking the multiple first round offer for Burns. Yikes.

Simpson, eh?

That’s why Simmons makes sense. He’s likely gonna be your starter with Blankenship this year. In year two you hope Sydney Brown is ready to play a bigger role. But you can still employ three safeties. I think Simmons with whatever contract he gets is likely only a two-year deal and then you’re moving on.
