They probably sniff the playoffs if he was there last season with that defense.

Leaps and bounds better than Wilson.

Looking at the free agent list some guys who they might be able to get on a cheap one year deal:

Parris Campbell, Van Jefferson, Mecole Hardman, DJ Chark, Laviska Shenault

Liked shenault a lot when he came out of Colorado if he could stay healthy. Last two years in Carolina has been bad but it is Carolina and it’s a crap show there. It’s a good class for what the eagles need as a no. 3 wr that can be had cheap.

I think he will be the guy.

Familiarity with Fangio scheme

Will come cheaper than $9 million per

Agreed, he has been dreadful the last two years in Carolina but so has everyone else. He didn't live up to where he was drafted in Jacksonville but his first two years there were very solid and he could bring some of the same things to the table that Curtis Samuel does.

Interesting.

Wonder what that cost them

Do the Eagles need DT depth addressed in FA, or is it an issue to tackle in the draft?

Torn on this to be honest

Currently the edge position depth charts look like

Reddick>Smith

Huff> Baun>Okwara?

On the other hand, at DE it is Graham, Sweat... and thats it.

At DT its Davis, Carter, Williams

I cant see how we are comfortable with starters at Edge, or DE if either Reddick or Sweat are traded.

An argument can be made that Milton Williams can shift to DE if Sweat is gone. But then you have a hole at DT considering Cox is gone and Williams is moving to a different position.

All that to say- they likely need more starting quality DL.

Could they trade Reddick and sign Wonnum? Could they trade Sweat and sign Danielle Hunter?

What scheme are we playing under Fangio?  Certainly not a 4-3. Might have two standup pass rushers on obvious passing downs, otherwise base defense is going to be some form of 3-4, Williams - Davis - Carter, with two OLBs, Not sure they think Sweat and Reddick are suited to OLB in a base defense.

I say draft. Carter, Davis, Williams, Tui, Ojomo now.

You have one too many edge positions.

They only had Reddick and Smith.

I don't know where the huff baun okawara position came from because it wasn't there last year.   Sweat and Graham is exactly what it was last year.  These players on the DL played well for the most part.  The Eagles spend a lot of money and resources on the DL.

Baun is likely a ILB.  Huff is a likely replacement for,  my guess, Reddick, could be Sweat.  Perhaps I'm wrong and these new acquisitions are indicative of some type of change from last year.   Maybe they're getting players they can train to play a number of different spots and perform specific functions.  Maybe one of these ILB/OLB/Linebackers can cover a tight end, even a great one.   There are edges like Nolan Smith who are 238 and ran 4.39.  He should be able to cover a TE.  Physically, he's big and fast enough. That's true for a lot of the LBs.  Good athletes, often expensive.  Another way to put it might be to say that the excess DL linebackers become ILBs.   Create a big pile of OLB/ILBs and sort it out.  I think that VanSumeren would be able to rush, or edge rush.  So some of the ILBs can do OLB stuff and some of the OLBs can do ILB stuff.

At this point look at S and CB for HS WR/QB/RB  fast 4.3 S or CB with WR/QB/RB at any time.  You might end up with too many CBs or Ss,   but if you don't have any backup WRs or RBs,  you can fill in around them with Ss who were running backs or qbs.   The Eagles didn't last year care much about the backups,  so adding Barkley means fewer snaps for the main guys.  It's something I haven't looked at yet.    FBs who were QB (Johnny Langan),  OT who were QB (Tylan Grable), Edge who were TE (many), CB/S who were QB (Cooper DeJean) WR who were QB (Xavier Legette).    I would guess that most players on defense would like to play a few snaps on offense.  And that extra thing could be blocking most of the time or running a  jet sweep or a go route or a quick slant for the faster ones.  Get a TD for Graham,  any OL should get a TD, put them in the backfield.  Nolan Smith could be a S or a RB.

Does Fangio like DL versatility?

Because Ruke Orhorhoro is someone to think about in RD2.

Assuming one of LB and S is addressed in FA.

Dude is just learning football and is good at it.

Yeah, I'm really making a dope of myself for not being negative after they added two really good players and re-signed a core piece on the first day of legal tampering. Oh and God forbid I actually have a good and busy life and am unable to spend half my day on the EMB blog like legends such as yourself 🤣 Great post Riley Cooper.

Big money at a FA RB

Draft LB in the 1st?

Never.  I am a firm believer on building the lines.  Most money in team salary cap most impact on both sides of the ball.  Still, you can't utterly neglect the other positions as they did last year on the defensive back 7

I don't think their depth is all that bad. Figuring Carter and Davis are the starters, we still have Williams, Ojomo, Tuipulotu, and Ellis from last season. That's a pretty young group.

Deep WR draft

Which is where we should be getting our slot receiver

Someone back a few pages suggested that Saquon could play slot receiver.

Someone else back a few pages said that the Eagles still need a really big back.

Slot Receiver / Running Back - Saquon Barkley
Running Back / Fullback - Derrick Henry
