A stat on the PHLY episode today with Wulf and Berman:

Aince 2010 21 total RBs have had 1300 touches or more in their first 6 seasons in the NFL. (Two of the 21 are Barkley and Jacobs). Barkley has had about 1500 touches.

Of the 19 non Barkley and Jacobs RBs(since they haven't played in year 7 yet), there are only 6 total combined seasons of 1,000 rushing yards or more after year 6. And of the 6, 5 of them belong to Derrick Henry, LeSean McCoy, Christian McCaffrey.

When RBs with heavy workloads fall off, they fall off fast.

Funny, the ones that sustain production tend to be elite or close to elite.

Though the problem with these sort of numbers is you'd want them adjusted for the team they play on, I mean put Swift on the Giants last year and do you think he'd sniff 800 yards rushing?

Had we done nothing or signed a moss or singletary this place would burn. Just can’t win

It’s Sal pal but i think they add a back as a well in the draft

Sweat for Budda Baker straight up

From a numbers perspective they need one more

Last 4 seasons, catching the ball out of the backfield:

Saquon Barkley -- 145 catches in 202 targets (71.8% catch rate), 941 yards (6.49 yards per catch)

Derrick Henry -- 98 catches in 128 targets (76.6% catch rate), 880 yards (8.98 yards per catch)

The case can be made for sure that Derrick Henry has a lot of wear on the tires, and it's a valid question how much he has left.  He's been for sure, by any objective measure though, a much better RB than Saquon Barkley.

$13M per season is just way too much for what Barkley has provided during his career.  I'm hopeful it will turn out to be a good signing, but my best guess is it will turn out to be a bad signing.

Catching? You hand it off to Henry. All 3 downs.

Well, it's Day 2 of free agency and they haven't signed Boston Scott yet .....

Presumably it's only since 2010 so LT, Peterson, Gore, Fred Taylor and Edgerrin James off the top of my head don't crap all over the story being set up.

YOUR FACE!

We lack depth at DE. Why move Sweat?

That was for the folks who seem to believe that Saquon has been/will be some sort of phenom out in space.

He's gonna be a nice addition to that offense. My grandfather was originally from Houston and a huge Oilers fan. He was devastated when they moved to Nashville, and thrilled when the Texans were created. Unfortunately he passed before the new DeMeco era, but he'd have been pumped as hell watching Stroud and company last year with a bright future ahead of them.

I like your grandfather.  I was an Oilers fan growing up.  Hate the Adams family still.  Father in law and BIL are Texan fans. Kills my FIL that he moved to Dallas country when he retired. He gets Dallas TV stations as his "local” stations.

I think we would all do that deal with him over Barkley's deal.

Why?  Did Henry learn how to catch out of the backfield?

Neither of them had major injuries either and were very durable. That's a big factor.

I'd love to grab Lloyd or one of the of more power backs to pair up with him.

He doesn't fit well as a 3-4 DE or OLB and his extension is going to cost a lot with others coming due. Looking at WR free agency, I think there's a considerably higher than zero chance that we can't afford Devonta if he wants full market.

I’m guessing they weren’t happy with him last year and they want to pay him, Reddick and huff. And he likely doesn’t fit what fangio wants (right or wrong)

Oh I see.

Anyway, yes the Ravens got the better player for less years and less money.

Easily the better deal. Its not debatable.

Is he closer to his end? Probably. Remains to be seen. And again, less years on the deal.

I don't agree with your assessment on Smith.  He looked good rushing the passer and often beat his man.  He didn't get washed out on blocks.  He did overrun plays at times.  My concern is his health not his talent.  The team is wasting him by letting him sit.  Play him on his rookie deal.

I like his effort and his athleticism and versatility but his technique especially his hands need a lot of work.

Watching him at MIKE was rough lots of false steps and waiting to catch guys.

I was never really sure about the Nolan Smith pick but hes a work in progress, hopefully he takes that sophomore leap, if not he could be a bust.

He's always been much better than Saquon at it.

Derrick Henry was getting out snapped at the end of last year by Spears. His end is coming soon. I still like Derrick Henry and that's a worthwhile signing for the Ravens.

Is he much better or has he just had better QB's throwing to him than the dying embers of Gomer's career followed by AbracaDaniel?
