Not sure what this means, the market seems pretty fair to me. No one vastly overpaid.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

More talk about just releasing Sweat, which would be stupid.

Too many people started complaining about his shtick

SAD!

Day 1 was a home run for Howie.

Day 2 has been a strike out looking.

Still plenty of options at S but LB is really thin all of a sudden and unless they plan on Devante Parker being the number 4 WR I don't get the move and I'm not even sure he's an upgrade to Quez/Zaccheus.

Green Bay did

Maybe they overvalued the market and thought they could sneak in and grab some nice talent on the cheap

I'm irritated.   I want LB and S.

Other than XM I would say the contracts have been fairly reasonable.

Whatever this means.

So his source is NFL Network?

Howie doesn't panic, reporters do. There is no rush to do anything right now.

My guess is they are annoyed more players haven’t signed to set the precedent for a contract. This allows Simmons’ agent to make up a number

Still a ton of names available

IF that's the case it's time to adjust to go to plan B which is to spend some money. If Jeremy Chinn only got 5 million I can't imagine CJGJ is going to cost all that much.

If Eagles end up releasing Sweat for whatever stupid reason, it would almost have to be a post June 1st. Regular release would be $5.4M hit in dead cap. Post June 1st would open up $4.3 on 6/1

So you’re allowing people to start to think about panicking soon at LB

I just don't buy the release Sweat talk. Doesn't make sense. He's a solid young homegrown player on a reasonable contract and the in house replacements (Smith and Huff) don't really match his skill set. Unless he doesn't fit at all in Fangio's system at all?

Yes and No. There are still some good options left at S and the amount of teams shopping has likely gone down significantly after the last day and a half. As for LB though, unless they plan to go with some combination of Dean, Cunningham, BVS, and a day 3 pick they might want to do something. Whose left that would actually be a legitimate starting LB for half the teams in the league, Jerome Baker?

Someone is going to have to explain to me the benefit of just releasing Sweat.

What a disaster if it comes to that.

Panic no. Concern, yes. Big difference between freaking out on day one when Queen and Jewell were still on the board versus a day later when they are gone and the best remaining options are Jerome Baker, Cody Barton and some JAGS.

Where did the idea of releasing him come up?

Because Howie is OCD tinkering at DL again, he just can't help himself. I know OCD when I see it, I have multiple friends and family with it. I have a friend who buys new crap to replace perfectly fine not-as-new crap every few months. The season ended poorly, Howie saw Bryce Huff's pressure rate sitting there in free agency and couldn't help himself. Now he's paying 3 edges big money that they can't afford going forward and he's desperate to get rid of at least one of the contracts.

It doesn't make sense but it also doesn't really make sense for it to be out there either. I'm guessing it's coming from teams interested in Sweat but not interested in trading anything for him, especially after the Huff signing.

Garafolo and McLane

Some national reporters earlier and now McLane. Probably from teams calling the Eagles bluff.

To be fair Sweat and Reddick weren't very good last season. I agree though that releasing Sweat would be dumb.
