  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

The CJGJ and Barkley contracts are prime examples as to why you don't judge a contract numbers until the details come out.  I don't know why this needs to be restated every off season but here we are...

That makes sense so the numbers aren't going in until the deals are official at noon or whenever today

4pm EST

New mock post-FA additions.

They get their OT choice, a 3-4 end to replace Sweat, a dynamic LB they’ve had their eye on, a superb S, the #3 WR, a great piece to the DT rotation, a sleeper RB (who I doubt is still available here), and a competitor for TE2.

Just tell them the cap isn’t real

Those poor fans don't have an elite GM like we do.

HE's entire argument can basically be summarized as: "Howie doesn't suck at managing the cap, he only sucks at evaluating players and retaining talent!"

He doesn't suck at retaining talent either.

My prediction:

Howie views CJGJ has 50/50 Maddox replacement and nickel safety. He’s not our every down nickel but that’s his versatility option. Howie is still looking for 1 primary back end safety and 1 bona fide starting LB.

We’ll get an OT round 1 and a Trotter type in round 2, and our safety room is CJGJ, Sydney, Reed, Hyde/Simmons/etc

LB room New Starter, Dean, Trotter, strong value depth signing

CB room Bradberry, Rodgers, Slay, Ringo, Ricks, Jobe, 5th rounder

We’ll still have money after this and not counting what we get for Sweat, could be better but that’s not half bad.

Very well may go

1. Mims

2. LB-Trotter, Cooper, Wilson?

2. S- Kinchens, Hicks?

Oh ok, those LBs and Ss we had last year really lit the league on fire then. My mistake.

They may view Noah Elliss as a potential backup NT. He will definitely get a chance to win it at camp at least.

The Barkley contract is a 2 year deal for $24M that barely affects the cap for 2024. Not a bad contract.

I sure hope they have a backup plan better than Elliss. I get he will be on the roster "competing". If he wins,  we likely have an issue.

I want no part of Kinchens. Would much rather take Bishop, Hicks, or Brade.

Agreed. I think the smoke around Khristian Boyd shows they are thinking about the position in the draft.

Again,  not cap casualties.

Not unable to retain talent.

Those are 2 devalued positions he figured he would just replace cheaply rather than retain.

Wrong move.  But not for the reasons you guys keep saying.

Better hope he has a plan at LB that includes Dean going on IR again

Kinchens is excellent.  Is it the 40 time scaring you off?

Justin Jefferson turned down a new contract from Minn before the 2023 season that was for 30m+ per year.

Does he want more money, or does he want to go somewhere to win?

Any chance we double up at LB in the 2nd round?

And I don't know how many times this needs to be stated but setting up a $37million 3 year contract so it can be a 2 year $26million contract that only counts ~ $4million against the cap in year one, is exactly the kind of pointless contractual tomfoolery from Howie that makes zero sense from a cap management standpoint, because even if we did take advantage of the break it simply means the contract bites us in the ass for the overwhelming bulk of the guaranteed money next year, while every cap site has us carrying enough space this year to split it more equitably.

We shouldn't. This is not the LB class to do that.

No.

Which also makes it smart he ignored it in FA while the good ones signed

Were the contract details on CJGJ posted already? All I've seen is 3yr $30M but nothing on structure or gm.
