I am surprised the Eagles didn’t pursue Noah Brown or sign Cedrick Wilson opposed to Parker. That signing made zero sense to me.

The Parker contract was a vet minimum deal.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

Wonder how much the Bosa and Mack situation is interfering with the Sweat trade market. Teams might be waiting for them to get cut first and seeing if they can sign them before pursuing Sweat.

I’d add onto this, in the second and third wave of free agency there’s gonna be some of these wide receivers still available. Likely  gonna be able to get them cheap. I don’t think Parker precludes them from doing that. It just gives them a guy right now out for veteran minimum. With how good this draft is at wide receiver, I wouldn’t be surprised in the second and third wave of free agency you get some deals at wr and the eagles kick the tires and maybe signs one. And if Parker isn’t what they like in training camp, you can release him and go with another guy.

And I don't know how many times this needs to be stated but setting up a $37million 3 year contract so it can be a 2 year $26million contract that only counts ~ $4million against the cap in year one, is exactly the kind of pointless contractual tomfoolery from Howie that makes zero sense from a cap management standpoint, because even if we did take advantage of the break it simply means the contract bites us in the ass for the overwhelming bulk of the guaranteed money next year, while every cap site has us carrying enough space this year to split it more equitably.

In fact it's not pointless tomfoolery at all.

It's those things that allow you to watch your team as a contender almost every year.

Overall lack of athleticism. Slow 40 for his size and short jumps, both vertical and broad. Not saying he’s a chump, just think there are better options on day 2.

Nubin, and Hicks may be the better options.

After them,  I have Kinchens despite his workouts.

Then,  large drop off.

Remember when Carson's uncle signed up?

Probably because we got him for 1M. He’s a WR4 at best here.

I understand that, but if the Eagles signed Julio Jones back for one million I think everyone would be like wtf he's washed this seems 100% pointless. I think Parker is just as washed as Julio Jones.

Is it a move worth being infuriated by? No. Just seems totally pointless to me. He has zero upside and can't play anymore.

This is wrong for 2 reasons.

1. Any cap not used this year can be rolled to next year. So structuring it with a small hit in year 1 -- if we don't use that cap for other players, it rolls over to the following year and offsets the increase.

2. 2025 cap dollars are cheaper than 2024 because the cap goes up every year. If the cap goes up 5-10% per year, then a 2025 cap dollar is ~90-95c versus a 2024 cap dollar. Since there is no interest charged on the deferral, you're always better off pushing more into later years where it will make up a smaller percentage of the cap.

The dead money at the end of the contract when it expires due to the dummy years can't be completely out of hand in any one year, but Howie does a good job of that (unlike the Saints). The downside to structuring contracts this way is that it makes certain guys immovable for a couple years, so when you get it wrong like Bradberry, you are stuck with him for year 2.

This is wrong for one reason, even if the cap goes up 10% so 2025 cap dollars are 90c, Saquon's cap hit goes up by 300% in year 2 so you're still $2.70 in the hole.

For example if Barkley blows out his knee in training camp next year, we're on the hook for 21mill of a 26 mill contract with no running back to show for the benefit of what? Carrying over cap? Telling stories at the NFL owners meeting about how it's actually smart because it's only costing them $18million in 2024 dollar equivalents?

Have a feeling Howie is working on a trade somewhere. Whether it's LB or CB.

Lattimore, Horn maybe.

he has fake sources, but occasionally sprinkles in easily found stats to make it feel more legit
