Ok I love the Barkley deal

Sounds like they're still interested in another safety, just not at a high price.

Josh Sweat for Justin Fields

We’re in a spot where we can be patient and bargain shop if we want another safety. I know people in here don’t love Blankenship, but he’s fine. It’s just a matter of Brown’s progression from rehab and if CJGJ is indeed our nickel back.

Safety is better than LB where they are in deep crap

Some speculation CJGJ could change his number to 3 given his instagram post, which means Nolan Smith could change his number. Would be good, #3 is bad for an edge rusher. He'll never amount to anything wearing #3. If he changes to a number in the 50s, 70s, 90s, suddenly he has a lot more potential.

Maybe I'm old school, but I'll die on the hill of the uniform number change rule being a negative. Aesthetically, I just can't take seeing linebackers in the 20s/30s and defensive linemen in the single digits. QBs, CBs, RBs, and WRs are the only main positions where I think single-digits should be allowed.

was it Albright last night who said the eagles and Gardner-Johnson werent very close yet then next thing you know a deal was done? Who was that?

Thought he was talking about Simmons...

For sure. I just don’t know where this LB upgrade is coming from. Wagner is old and can’t cover anymore. Dodson is probably a backup level player. White doesn’t fit here. He has zero instincts and needs to be in a blitz-heavy attacking defense like Baltimore or Seattle with Macdonald.

kinda. I dont think itd stop us from some great opportunity but they probably dont want to spend a large chunk of thats left on the safety position.

No. Well yes, but there was also one about Gardner-Johnson. I remember commenting- so he still hasnt learned his lesson from last year.

Probably better than Parker.

Barkley is on what is essentially a 2 year contract. He is 27 years old. We don’t want to extend his contract into his 30’s.

We should absolutely use Barkley as a work horse. It’s the only way this signing makes sense.

Exactly.  Barkley is not a young RB just embarking on his career; he’s a high-priced free agent brought in to help put the offense ‘over the top’.

His career usage has been about 240 carries and 60 catches per season.  That should be the baseline with the Eagles.  Swift had 229 carries and 39 catches this past season; Barkley should be more heavily involved.

I'm sure they are still factoring in Devonta extension too.  There's no on out there that I'd say it's worth blowing too much cap space on

He was undrafted so this is probably his agent

Anyone should be proud to be represented by Lionel Hutz.

not to mention, we have so many holes on the roster we cant overpay

Cap wise we should be well north of $25M still. Cash is a different story but unless Simmons is asking for something absurd, money shouldn't be an issue.

I really don’t see that many holes as of today. We definitely need a LB. Maybe a backup QB. We have three picks in the first two rounds to fill long term needs — corner brings a glaring need.

What holes are you speaking of? LB? S? CB? DT? OG/OT? That's not a ton of holes considering 3 picks in the top two rounds. DL/OL/CB should be addressed early. That only leaves safety and LB and at this point. Maybe it is too late with who has signed but they could have addressed more, but Howie is being stubborn.

On the one hand I'd agree on the other you could look at every position on the defense except maybe DT and say there is some type of need there

Any trades held in mystery/guys who couldn’t get restructured by new league year, surprise cuts, official signings of reported contracts, and then possibly a flurry of cheaper guys signing after everyone’s cap situation is solidified.
