In my day and what I grew up on the DE was Jalen Carter Fletcher Cox types in the 3-4. It was a Nose, two DE and four LB(two outside and two inside)

Huff played 40+ percent of the plays. 50+ percent of the plays utilizing Nickel personnel league wide. So just looking for him to step up and play all the Nickel snaps it would appear. Having the four rushers….whatever you label them…they’re a DE.

Interesting that Lane's been mentoring this guy;

22. Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

What they said: Even though three-time All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson made it clear he plans to keep on playing, general manager Howie Roseman still might be drawn to finding the 33-year-old's eventual successor. What better long-term option is there than Guyton, a fellow Sooners product who is already being mentored by Johnson and could continue to learn the finer points of the position as he sits behind the veteran?

My take on the pick: Johnson after the playoff loss said he has a couple of good years left in him so there wouldn’t be an easy path for Guyton to be a starter in Philly. Johnson is at right tackle and Jordan Mailata is at left and under contract through the 2025 season. Of course, the Eagles typically don’t like to scramble to find offensive line replacements; they’d rather draft them early and develop. The tricky thing about that is there are just four years on a rookie contract (five with a fifth-year option) and if everything goes right, Guyton might not touch the field very much for a few years. Of course, injuries happen and we’ve seen Johnson miss time before. It’s also worth noting that the Eagles’ top OT backup Jack Driscoll is a free agent. Guyton (6-7, 328) had just one season as a full-time starter for the Sooners but he has the size and athleticism that could make him very intriguing to OL coach Jeff Stoutland.

Been seeing a lot going for Latu even w/ the injury. Like this guy too;

22. Cooper DeJean, DB, Iowa

What they said: The Eagles need help at corner and safety, and DeJean can play both. Too many have fixated on moving the former Iowa star to safety, but he absolutely has speed and agility to stay at corner, and his 6-1, 200-pound frame makes him an asset outside and in run support. He’s an electric punt returner.

My take on the pick: DeJean (6-1, 207) is a fascinating player because he mostly played corner at Iowa but many see him as a safety in the NFL. The Eagles have never taken a safety in the first round. DeJean had 5 interceptions last year and 2 this past season before an injury ended his 2023 early. Hopefully he’ll be a full-go at the NFL Combine, because he’s expected to have a strong performance. DeJean was also a very good punt returner at Iowa.

Know we go lines, this guy can start on ST's right away.

One thing is I'm not even sure the starting C is on the team - we've been spoiled for a long time.

So why do you only see 2 of those Tackles as round 1?

I don't, I only see 2 pure G's

You said he "strictly" is a pass rusher, which is FALSE,he can play LB because he DID IT

Maybe the new DC wants to add a few wrinkles?

Stupid to spend a 1 pick on a guy who "will sit a few years" One would be ok but not multiple years. By the time he steps in to start 1/2 his rookie deal is up

TD 123's guy is DeJean, Mine is Latu, some think we make the move for Powers-Johnson,but I think that's too a far leap for Howie

You can list them however you want... they are going to play on the edge with 3 big dudes in the middle of the line when it's a 3-4 alignment on the running downs.

Congrats... let's take away your labels..and your nicknames and live in the real world.

When you see the Eagles defense on the running downs.... if Smith, Huff, Carter,  Davis and Milton are on the field... how do you see them line up?

I mean... do you see Huff lining up on running downs between Smith and Davis ?  In the Carter / Cox.... 3-4 DE position from 1987?

Do you see Josh Sweat lining up next to Davis and inside of Smith on running downs... in the 3-4 DE position from 1982?

I assume Josh Sweat is listed as a DE and not a LB?

Brandon Graham ...he played the edge when we had that 3-4 D under Chip....was he listed as LB?  Was Trent Cole listed as LB?  Connor Barwin was...but vs the run did Barwin have a different job than Cole or Graham or was it to set the edge with 3 big dudes in the middle of the DL?

Don't we expect Sweat, Huff, Graham, Smith...to all set the edge in that role vs the run?  Do we expect any of them to double gap inside, next to the NT?

But hey...the label and listing????

Was Fletcher Cox listed as DE when we ran the 3-4 under Chip?

Gets you thinking how we will fare against teams that decide to run on our lineup of Bryce and Nolan

Ok... so again... I'm thinking of a team running on us on early downs... if we have the lineup of Huff and Smith ( I use their last names because I don't have the personal relationships that you do with these players)

I see the early downs as a 3-4 D.

If you are obsessed about how teams run on us in the obvious Nickel passing downs....for me, go ahead and run on 3rd and 8.  That's better than last year when we gave 15 yard cushion on the outside but the LBs kept missing their assignments of covering those out patterns.  Lol.

Cover 3...you LBs need to run from the middle of the field and cover world class NFL athletic WRs on the sideline route.

Wasn't dumb play calling was the LBs missing those easy assignments. 🤦‍♂️

Unless he plays G initially and starts for your team there. Which is what I've been hearing about this guy on the local shows.

So "my takes"  are they your takes MJK or are they a writers?

Because both of the " my takes" seem outdated?   The combine already happened and Driscoll already signed with Miami.

Just copied the rest as a reminder to what's happened. Still po'd about our secondary last yr. Should also remind that dullass is most likely going to be a heavy passing team this yr. I like guys who tackle well, like guys who prevent opponents from getting the ball in the 1st place even better, INT's even more. Looks like a game changing kind of player.

As for the T, only mentioned it as Lane's been mentoring the guy. Can't tell the future but it's a position very few can start at right away. Lane's not getting any younger, been injured and it's a yr early but who better to learn under? Game plan was to lose a G to C as Kelce's replacement as well - if that's still the game plan as not sure if I'm not impressed w/ Kelce's replacement(s) or just spoiled.

I'm not sure I understand anything you are saying about the OL?

As for the secondary..I prefer not giving 15 yard cushion on 3rd and 8.  Don't care who you have out there...nobody can stop the other team unless you are actually near the players.  Tough to tackle,  deflect or intercept without being near the receiver.  That's the first thing that needs to be corrected.

As far as being impressed or not with Kelce replacement...  Kelce hasn't missed a game in about 9 years??   So I can't really comment on anyone else playing center for the Eagles as I haven't seen it in a long time!
