November 22, 20222 yr Game of thrones question (from episodes 1-2 of the show… spoiler in off chance anyone watching HotD hasn’t watched the original) Bran was in his coma over a month. How did he stay alive? They didn’t have feeding tubes or IVs in this medieval-style society. I don’t think you can just stick food or drink in their mouths without having them choke or suffocate on it

November 22, 20222 yr My late thoughts on season 1. First half of the season was pretty brutal to get through. Second half was a little better, but not much. I realize Season 1 was setting the stage for what should be a much better Season 2, but it was still rough for me. The thing that made Game of Thrones so great was not only the action/fighting scenes of the first season, but also that you immediately loved and were invested in the main characters. The entire Stark family were immediately recognizable as the good guys, and they were easy to root for. Ned Stark who always chose honor even to his detriment. Arya a wild and mischievous tomboy who hated expectations of being a lady and fantasized about being a knight (thank god the show was made in 2011 or HBO would have 100% made her trans today). Jon Snow, probably the best character, as the black sheep of the family desperately trying to find his place in the world as a ****. Tyrion, immediately likable because of his wit and as comic relief. You also had characters that were easy and fun to hate. Joffrey, Cersei, Jamie - who then went through a pretty awesome character progression until HBO decided to ruin it in the finale. With HotD, let's face it, they all suck. Rhaneera is a whiny, snobby little rich girl whose face kind of looks like she has fetal alcohol syndrome. Daemon is a psycho and unlikeable. The King is kind of a **** and has wounds that won't heal. There's no one that you can immediately be invested in. They're all kind of crap. Throw in a lack of overall action in Season 1, and yeah, it was pretty bad in my book. Season 2 will at least bring some battles, but I think it will suffer from the same issue as Season 1. There's really not a side of the fight that I feel invested in. I guess team incest is slightly more likeable than eyepatch and his ahole brother?

She had her meals brought to her there, and chamber pots as well, and a small hard bed to sleep on, though it was said she had scarcely slept at all. She fed him herself, the honey and water and herb mixture that sustained life. Not once did she leave the room. –AGOT, Jon II

Meryn Trant and Gregor Clegene were the poster children for character development through like 5 and 8 seasons respectively!

November 26, 20222 yr Who the hell is Meryn Trant? There are 75 main characters in GoT, never heard of him/her/zeir.

Oh yeah that kind of brings me to a plot hole of sorts (if any book nerd can answer, by all means). Didn't dragons and magic coexist? Wasn't half the plot of GoT that the return of dragons meant the return of old spells and secrets that were supposed to work again? Not only do our friends in HoD suffer from an acute bout of Medieval Stasis, if anything the world seems less magical, less wonderful, with less sorcerer types roaming the courts and abbeys.

It's Team Incest v.s. Team Incest with an eyepatch.

He’s the one that interrupts Arya and Syrio when they are sword-practicing when Cersei/Littlefinger capture Ned Stark. He’s the one that hard-slaps Sansa across the face when Joffrey shows Sansa his head in a spike (I think Joffrey says something like "mother says a king shouldn’t strike his lady… Ser Meryn”. He’s also the the one who nails Sansa in the gut because "leave her face. I like her pretty” and is stripping her naked in the throne room until Tyrion bursts in and stops them. (Trant accuses Tyrion of threatening the king to which Tyrion says something "I’m not threatening the king, I’m educating my nephew. Bronn, the next time Ser Meryn speaks, kill him. See, now that is a threat”. a sheet ton more over countless seasons but his shining moment is his montage of "too old” with all the teens/tweens when he escorts Margery Tyrell’s dad to bravos and the iron bank and gets his brothel fix on.

Who needs magic when you have dragons? They have day after pill in the form of tea though.
