The Jags players may have been around someone who was a known positive and had to quarantine until they were cleared with a couple of negative tests.

Being on the reserve Covid list doesn’t mean they themselves tested positive.

I am appalled! No mention of Coltrane? That’s just crazy. Wayne Shorter. Herbie Hancock. The Duke and the Count. Art Tatum. Sonny Rollins?

No Coltrane? SMH.

There’s a great Japanese woman pianist right now - Hiromi. Her god is Oscar Peterson, also passed over here. There’s a lot of Hiromi’s stuff on Youtube. Check out her duets with Chick Correa or her solo performance of that old standard, I Got Rhythm. The woman is a monster.

Was about to say the same thing, where's Coltrane?  You guys in here actually got me into jazz (and blues).  Was Mingus mentioned as well?

Jags had several players come off the COVID list early.  Must be false positive tests.   You would think the NFL teams would be using the same labs but it sure makes you wonder about the quality of the lab doing Jacksonville’s tests.

It's not the lab's...it's the actual test.  The original tests that came out of China were  horribly inaccurate.  The newer test kits aren't as easy to come by and the NFL is no where near being up there on the importance list.

I think people can be on the list if they were exposed to someone who tested positive.  So it may be that they tested negative after exposure.

That's how we've been doing it at work.  Restriction of movement for exposures (even 3rd party at times).

This was driving to work. Hurricane is definitely in Baltimore.

Didn't they say they thought the Phillies staff members were false positives?

Don’t know. Somehow the Marlins are in Baltimore to play the O’s with probably less than half of their team.

There is a ton of jokes here.

Malcolm MacDonald awaits a surgery to transfer the constructed penis from his arm to its rightful place. (Photo credit MEGA AGENCY)

"Of course it is mad – having a P on your arm,” MacDonald told the outlet. "Not even I am used to it. But when you think about it, it’s actually amazing."

There are so many running through my head.  If that thing was fully functional, I would probably tell chicks I was Spiderman, then........surprise!

Mingus was not, IIRC. @BigEFly is right, though. Coltrane is a special case. If you drop a neophyte into, say, Ascension  or Meditations, they will go screaming from the room. I see him as a colossus, the greatest jazz man of my time, but I grew with him and he taught me with his development.

As for a starter album, for the modern jazz I would always go with Kind of Blue. The personnel on that album is almost a Who's Who of modern jazz. I think Bebop is a tough one to start with. Maybe some Roy Eldridge. Rockin Chair would be my pick. For the big band and swing era, I have to go with Benny Goodman. His 1938 Carnegie Hall recording is a landmark, not only as great music in a great venue but because it introduced an integrated jazz group to the general public. His group for that concert included Count Basie, Lester Young, Lionel Hampton, and Teddy Wilson. Goodman had actually broken the color line some years before when his group played the clubs in Harlem. His all-white group would play a set and, during intermission, black musicians would play. After a couple of numbers Goodman would join them. That's where he first worked with Teddy Wilson, who then played with him for years. An aside: Goodman's recording of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto (1957) is just great, as is his recording of Aaron Copeland's Clarinet Concerto (1947), which Goodman commissioned.

Yes, I should have mentioned Dave Brubeck. Take 5 is an excellent starter album for smooth jazz (and nobody was smoother than Paul Desmond). I'd also give a shout out to Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan.

For solo piano, nothing touches Art Tatum. No disrespect to Bill Evans or Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner or Herbie Hancock or Chick Correa, also great. As I said in an earlier post, I rank Hiromi up with those giants (really). I saw her with her trio at the Annenberg Center a couple of years ago and she blew me away. Mentioning Herbie and Chick, I saw them with Miles - his ****es Brew group that also included Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, Joe Zawinul, Dave Holland, and John McLaughlin. Incredible group, with both Chick and Herbie on keyboards. Geez, that was along time ago!

For vocals, yes, Ella is the clear choice. One can then branch into Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Nina Simone and a few others. Ella's duets with Satchmo are great stuff and accessible to anyone.

There's so much great music out there that I could blather along for pages, so I'll stop here.

I wonder if he was always pestering Reid to rotate him out after all of his good runs.

So judging by the time frame a known exposure risk like Minshew was put on the list and taken off who never tested positive, you can probably safely say that Mailata and Gerry tested positive

I remember being at this game.  Pinkston had some nice catches.

was that McNabb's broken ankle game?

Looks strange in 21.  Really excited to see what Mills brings to the table at safety.
