Yup. Been quiet, weve got no one to blame but ourselves. New Zealand just passed 100 days without any new covid cases, theyve resumed sports and life and here we are in the US still arguing about masks as cases and deaths continue to rise. I dont imagine football is played and if so i imagine not for very long.

Way to jinx them!  They were doing great but you can't compare an island nation of what 5 million who closed their borders to 330 million Americans where are most infected locations are the most densely packed and where we had international ports.

Time flies anymore.  We've been living with restrictions now for 6 months.  No matter how you feel about the mandates, numbers and what's happening 6 months have flown by.

In the 2nd and 3rd rounds back-to-back mind you.  2nd round pick you hope never sees the field and a 3rd round linebacker who has to be taught how to play the position.  Not exactly what you want to hear.

Hurts will handle the ball 4-6 times per game.  Doug and Marty have a package of plays for him.

There's no way I want Hurts getting the ball 4-6 times per game.  A rookie quarterback, with no off-season, coming in cold off the bench for gadget plays?  No thank you.  When you have DJack, Ertz, Goedert, Sanders, Scott and all of this new found speed at WR I would much rather spread the ball around.

That's 6 plays with your best player, Carson Wentz, on the bench.  No thank you.

No, it isn't.  He'll be in the backfield beside Wentz and run some low risk plays with the option to run or throw -- mostly run in the beginning.  At the very least it will force defensive coordinators to game plan for him.

Again, you want Hurts in there rather than Miles Sanders or Boston Scott?  No offense but that's a horrible idea.  I want to like the Hurts pick but I just don't.  I still can't get behind it and in no way do I want to see them force him on the field to prove that they didn't waste a 2nd round pick.  It just sounds like a recipe for disaster.  The rhythm of the offense can get thrown off and stall a drive, Carson is already a fumble machine.  Do we want to run some risky play where he has to ball handle to Hurts?

If you have both in the backfield you are essentially playing with 10 players.  Either Hurts is a decoy and just out there or Hurts gets the ball and then Carson is a decoy or even worse running a route?  This has unwarranted injury all over it.

Can you imagine Carson Wentz getting hurt on a gadget play where Hurts has the ball?  Then you can say hey at least we drafted his backup.

That's all in an attempt to justify a terrible pick.  Square peg, round hole.

100% correct

Sadly he is prob correct though that Hurts will get a handful of plays each game. Marty was here during the Wildcat offense with McNabb and Vick. Would not surprise me one bit if Marty threw that idea in Doug and Howies head during the draft. Im not a fan of it, hated it back then, hate it now. But it's something I think will happen.

No offense, but the scenarios you laid out seems like you want to dislike the pick.  I'm not rationalizing whether I want Hurts in there or not -- I'm just telling you how the Eagles will use him based on what Doug has said.

I will say that Hurts has demonstrated an ability to make tacklers miss close to the LOS; he scored 20 TDs and ran for 1,300 yards last season with his feet.  It wouldn't hurt my feelings if he took a few snaps instead of Scott -- Scott is still a niche player at this point.  If the Eagles need to bring in a #2 QB because Wentz is injured, I'd prefer if that player is warm rather than what we saw with McCown last year.

I'm being realistic, not trying to dislike it.  I want to like every pick it's just hard to.  Boston Scott had something like the most redzone TD's by a running back the last 4 weeks of the season.  Some Reuben Frank article pointed out how effective he was.  He proved against NFL talent that he can put the ball in the EZ.  I liked Hurts as a college quarterback.  I liked Tim Tebow, Johnny Manzel and Baker Mayfield as college QB too.  I'm just not excited at all with Hurts as a pro prospect or a gadgert quarterback.

Glad to see Lane has recovered from the pandemic illness. Hope he didn’t take any banned substances to do so.

He looked pretty good in preseason. We were talking about it on the old board. He wasn’t even given a chance here. If your point was true, then the FO takes the hit for once again trying to force a square peg through a round hole. So regardless they made a bad decision.

I don't think he looked good at all...also they signed him for nothing.  They saw something they liked and it didn't pan out.  He went to a system close to what he was used to and did ok.  It wasn't a bad decision.

I didn't like the pick either when it was first made, but 'it is what it is', as I've heard somewhere.

I'm not going to put anyone down for not liking a personnel move -- I believe the Eagles were demonstrably stupid to pick up Agholor's option; I never believed he was a worthwhile player at any point.  I think the Eagles are demonstrably stupid in bringing Mills back; I don't believe he'll be any better at safety than he is a CB because I saw very poor instincts as a football player which won't serve him well at a new position.

If I was in Howie's place at the draft the Eagles would have drafted Kenneth Murray at #21 and Denzel Mims at #53 -- but Nate Sudfeld as the only backup QB.  Not sure the team would be in a better place at all.

I cant wait to see what they do with him. It is exciting to see something different then what is typically put out on the field. It may work or it may not, but either way I would rather the Eagles try new and different things then settle on the same old same old. That is how you win in this league - not by being stale and doing what everyone else does.

I'm hopeful he makes the safe play, moves the sticks and makes a few guys miss -- and above all open up the field for other guys in the offense through progressions.  If he does that I think Eagles fans will like him.  If he fumbles, throws INT, misses open guys or can't keep his mouth shut then fans will hate him.  I suspect it'll be a combination, but mostly the first.

Well real training camp starts this week.  So hopefully we will start seeing some real content.

I wonder.  We will be four weeks out from the season opener.  Normally we would be near the end of practices the media is invited to view.  I suspect we some see some limited position drill views but probably not a lot of the 7 on 7 or 11 on 11, t the degree those occur. Doug talked about a couple of scrimmages.  I doubt those are open to the media.  Eagles are taking full advantage of spooning out as little as they can.
