What's with the BS about moving college sports to the spring?  That's not gonna happen.  Just cancel and dont be afraid to announce it.  Let the kids who are NFL prospects start preparing and training now instead of giving them false hope that they have a season to look forward to in the spring.

If they did have a spring football season then they'd have to start the season at that point every year from now on or 1 of the seasons will have to be canceled.  No way they can start in April that runs till July or August then start the next season 1 month later.

Just stop NCAA.....either start the season in September or cancel it.  None of this spring football crap.

Not every kid is preparing for the NFL. Most of these guys won’t have careers after school. If it’s possible to have them play and do it safely then they should.

How about those Suxers?

It's still technically an amateur activity.

Play in the spring.  The NFL will adapt the combine and draft accordingly.  Several blue-chip players will opt out, so the product will be sub-optimal.

But at least they won't be putting student-athletes' health at more risk than usual.

Yeah no one will blame any kid for opting out.

the NFL schedule is not the only issue. If they play in the spring, then theyre supposed to be ready to play in the fall again? 2 seasons in 1 year? Sounds like a ridiculous ask of those athletes.

Yep and they only reopened because Trump signed the executive order forcing them to.

Dude, give it a rest.

OK sorry for a Covid question and let me preface this by stating that I'm not trying to take away from folks who have tested positive (a few of our members on here) or have had to deal with a death to a loved one or person they know.

However, with college football being cancelled and high school sports in PA being cancelled along with schools going back with all sorts of wacky schedules I'm just looking for some clarity because there seems to be none.  I don't want this to be a Trump this or Gov. Wolf that conversation.  I'm only asking because it seems like we've reached a point where ho-hum this is life.  This is the "new-normal" every commercial and talking head was talking about.

Our numbers in PA are declining steady for a week.  That's a good thing.  As of today we are at 7,352 deaths statewide.  5,000 of those come from nursing homes.

This PDF is from August 7 and has a great breakdown of cases/deaths and who has been impacted.  Broken down via ages, pre-existing heath issues, race and then some.

So after 6 months the question is:

What is our end goal now?  When do we say OK, let's get back to life and move on.

OK what's the point of posting something like that?  Do people need THAT much attention on themselves?  If something doesn't go my way I put my head down and keep moving forward.

I agree 100%.  I hate when athletes post cryptic things like this on social media and even worse when people try to stick up for them.  He should not be compared to the average person who has a few dozen followers.  He did this on purpose, which is for attention, and believe it or not he has a responsibility to the fan base.  Miles seems like a great dude so far, but he's also a young dude, so I'm sure this won't be the last time he tweets something stupid that freaks out the fans.

Didn't know that thread existed.  I actually just stay in this topic, don't venture in to any others so I was hoping some of the guys on here who have knowledge could chime in.

The answer is complicated by the upcoming election and the "whole of government" approach (which really means each state decides).

Some would like to just "say OK" and move on.  Others would like to address the crisis directly.

Without a unified direction, each state, municipality, league, conference, etc. is figuring it out on their own.

Highschool sports are not cancelled in PA yet. Gov recommended it. PIAA said we have a good plan and insisted on more meetings to try to convince him. We will get word after more meetings on 8/21. For now they delayed the official start of fall sports to 8/24 after those meetings.

From there, they will either succeed in convincing him they should play, or cancel.

Till then, now I get to administer COVID tests.

I think the expectation is that cases will explode again with the return to school, and sports. The end goal has always been to slow the curve until a vaccine (or therapeutics) can be safely made available.

It's his fault. He was touted as this really good 1st round talent that we were able to get in the 2nd round because of the injury. Since then he hasn't really shown much

This jumped out to me in the article: When Jones arrived at his facility, Braxton said he discovered that one leg was thicker than the other. The trainer developed a plan to make Jones’ physique more well-rounded.

What a pathetic job by Jones, his PT staff and the Eagles training staff.

Didnt think a leg could be thinner than either of his...

well, we already know last year an INTERN found him squatting only 135lb and began working to correct that.

It stands to reason he was not able to reverse all that atrophy during the football season.

It is pathetic. He needed better PT, better athletic trainers, better strength coaches, and a goddamn sport psychologist.

I guess its still an issue.

So after 6 months the question is:

What is our end goal now?  When do we say OK, let's get back to life and move on.

I think the end goal is a vaccine, improved therapeutic treatments for this sort of lung ailment.  I think there is a desire to minimize death and illness in the meantime.   I think adhering to common sense safety guidelines achieves a decreasing infection rate and death rate.  Unfortunately, that means limiting social gatherings in the meantime, wearing masks, washing hands etc.

I think we may learn from the upcoming flu season that a combination of the flu vaccine and the hygiene practices we have for COVID may lessen the hit of the flu.  That could save about 30,000 lives a year.  So it may become the socially proper behavior to stay home when you are sick.  Wear a mask when in contact with others during flu and even cold outbreaks, including using transit and maybe even in the stands at games.  Maybe the Neanderthals that refuse to wash their hands after using the bathroom will finally do better. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some mandated paid sick leave possibly supplemented with some help for smaller businesses.  What I really hope is the empathy (I wear a mask to protect others, feeding essential workers, food bank contributions etc.) starts to wear into our culture a bit more too.

In other words, I don’t think we get back to life and move on but rather grow from this experience and get better as we move forward.
