Couple of things:

—you have to have enough people actually taking the vaccine and trusting to do it with not Nearly enough long term research. I think you are going to see a lot of people hesitant to take a vaccine that was created in less than 18 months. Heck we can’t even get people to wear masks or wear masks properly  (heck good article from yahoo yesterday saying gaiters were actually increasing your chances at covid (https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/neck-gaiters-may-actually-increase-covid-19-transmission-study-finds-183034882.html?.tsrc=daily_mail&uh_test=1_04)

—usually a vaccine takes 10-15 years to be released to the general public. Reason is so that theres enough long term studies to know the long term ramifications of the vaccine (flu is different as they only change the antigen every single year based on data collected but the process of making it is the same). This is done for a reason. Call me skeptical that the only vaccine that came out as fast took 4 years but we are doing it in 18 months and we can’t even have tests for covid that are highly accurate between different coronaviruses (cdc has it on their site saying you might test positive for covid but actually have a different Family of coronavirus. That’s pretty scary they can figure out a vaccine but not accurate enough testing to know if you have covid 19 or another coronavirus... however The University of Arizona is working on a test that can compare graphs of coronaviruses to your test results to know which one. they haven’t figured it all out yet.)

— If down the road there’s long term consequences From the vaccine because they didn’t have enough Long term testing And rushed it there’s going to be lawsuits anyway.

— a somewhat concern for me is if the vaccine works for 75% of people (i believe that was fauci’s hopes of how many it could help.https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/28/health/fauci-coronavirus-vaccine-contact-tracing-aspen/index.html Seen other reports saying it’s 50-50  ) so 25 percent it would not and possibly worse have an adverse reaction. For instance we found out my mom can’t get vaccines. every time she has gotten one in the past 10 years she’s gotten violently ill and 2 times had to go to the hospital. Is that the norm? No but there is going to be cases like that and you hope it’s minuscule but in a 18 month period I’m not sure that risk is minimal

I for one do not think a vaccine is a cure all. i think that’s wishful thinking. Will it help? Yes if the research and testing holds up. However also other circumstances like mutations and other variables that could really take it in another direction. I think you are going to see a resistance from a lot of people on taking such vaccine that was created because companies That wanted to be the first to make billions off of it. Yes i do think they want to help people but i also believe they want the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow as well.

anyway here’s an detailed article about how vaccines are created and why they take the time they usually do

https://www.health.ny.gov/prevention/immunization/vaccine_safety/science.htm

I will definitely read up on that link a bit later. However, I did want to comment on your example with your mom. I’m sorry she is unable to take a vaccine even if one is available, but let’s say it is effective on 75% of the population who takes it...that will still cut down a large percent of her potential daily encounters. We don’t need 100% of the population to take it, we just need enough willing to do so in order to minimize the spread.  The questions left to be answered is how effective the eventual vaccine will be and how many will resist the vaccine when available.

If they get to 75 percent. That’s fauci’s hopes. The more logical thinking is 50-60 percent would be good base for them. If you get 75 you should be able to control much better Probably enough to get to herd immunity. However if it’s closer to 50 I’m not sure that gets you there. Agreed on the how effective it will be. I question that based off rushing to get it done and money being involved always makes it a race to get something not necessarily best quality. I’d have to find the article they polled saying 33 percent wouldn’t take it  so if that’s actually a true indication that’s not a good start (https://news.gallup.com/poll/317018/one-three-americans-not-covid-vaccine.aspx)

heres the article on fauci’s hopes of 75

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/fauci-covid-19-vaccine-may-only-end-up-being-50-to-60-effective/ar-BB17HHfH

"But we don't know if it's going to be 50 percent (effective), or 60 percent. Hopefully, I'd like to see 75 percent or more," he said. "But the chance of it being 98 percent effective is not great. Which means you must never abandon the public health approach."

I think the hype around mailata got way to built up. I would’ve been happy if he just became a good swing tackle for us. There were people out in the media stating he was going to be a high quality starting caliber left tackle. I think that was unrealistic. If he’s a good backup And slightly better than vaitai I’d be thrilled with that pick.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the effectiveness also based on the health of an individual? I.e. Healthier/younger people taking it will have a much higher chance of the vaccine working? So even if the effectiveness is only 50% that still bodes well for us. That will go a long way for this virus imo. Especially with a lot of deaths coming from complications with other preexisting conditions. Those people are already spending more time indoors and taking more precautions (I hope).

If Mailata becomes slightly better than Vaitai then he’ll sign a $60 mill contract.

I know I was hyped for the Mailata pick because they took a high ceiling player at an important position. They didn’t use it on some low ceiling guy that was never going to be anything more than a rotational guy or STer.

Going into year 3 it’s make or break for him. Hopefully he’s active on game day

Then you should just consider yourself lucky because Florida has 56 deaths under 30, which includes 7 that were children, that weren't even in school. So yea, everyone should be doing the bare a** minimum to prevent more regardless whether it has happened yet or has not happened yet.

Don't put words in my mouth, I never said let's do the bare minimum.  I'm saying we need to look at big picture numbers, use common sense and not overreact.  Every single state is different.  Shoot, here in PA, every county is different.  From the top down there has been no coordination.  Everyone at every level of government could be doing a better job.  There is no blame all on one man or one party vs the other.

To me it seems like Covid is back page news anymore and it's just the life we live.  They shoved the "new normal" narrative down our throats and how we move forward in a "Covid world".  Well here we are.  We deal with it and live with mandates, restrictions, cancellations in place with no finish line in site.  That's my big question.  What is our goal? What is the end game?

Would go along way in helping. Still wouldn’t completely take things back to normal status quo. I believe it would need to be higher to reach herd immunity or reach it at a faster pace. Would definitely help. Vaccines definitely have some dependency on health and age of individual

to me the issue is more of if that Gallup poll is accurate that 33 percent aren’t going to take it. So at most you could get is 67% of the population taking it and if everyone took the vaccine and it was 100 percent effective. Let’s say it’s only effective on 50 percent of those 67% then you are only getting 33.5%. Helpful but that would be a discouraging number imo. If it’s closer to 75% effectiveness on those 67% taking the vaccine it’s right at 50%. It’s why the 33% saying they won’t take it really hurts in getting to the point of herd immunity.

Exactly.  That would be a realistic expectation as long as his back holds out.  A 7th round swing tackle is a great value pick and would only prove further how amazing Jeff Stoutland is at developing the OL.  He turned Vaitai into a $50 mil contract.

I got caught up in the Ross Tucker hype a couple of years ago when he dominated in the Jets preseason game.  He practically enshrined him in the HOF.
